Legend_in_blue Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 After just watching the highlights on tv, the Hendrie/Oakley pairing for me is the best midfield pairing I've seen in ages. Forward passes, with purpose, breaks into the penalty area, mobility, pace etc etc... What do other people think? When Clemence is back I'd stick him on the bench. Hendrie gives us more drive, and Oakley a better pass.
dandannieldanok Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Hendrie and Oakley. Clemence simply isn't good enough.
Simi Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Hendrie and Oakley, although I still feel like Weso and Hendrie would work really well. Oakley hasn't been the best as of late but his work rate can't be questioned.
Webbo Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 A bit of a pointless thread as we all know what the answer will be. At the minute it's Oakley and Hendrie but a few months ago everyone was saying what class Clemence was.
eaststandtom Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 before xmas i really thought we needed someone to play with clemence since oakley signed we really needed someone to play with him. hendrie seems to have done well so far clemence has been a disappointment overall
maddog Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Hendrie and Oakley. Clemence simply isn't good enough. id say Clemence simply is shit, and has been all season.
DBEightyFive Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I think Clemence will have a job getting back into the team...unbelieveable that at the beginning of the season we didn't have a midfield and Clemence was a dead certainty to play every week, now he's hardly going to get a look in if Hendire and Oakley keep playing thw way they did yesterday
Mort Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Hendrie and Oakley... but that shouldnt distract from the fact that Clem is decent, some good games more poor (but that's been the case for the team as a whole). Also dont read too much into a game where we've played against ten then nine men if your looking to rate our best centre-mid pairing... in an even game opting for such a narrow midfield as we had yesterday would hurt us more often than it'd help us. Clemence is a great option to have, as is Weso... Oakley and Hendrie have done very well, but it's totally unconstructive to round on one player as the scape goat for a poor season, the likes of Stearman, Hume, Howard, DJ, Mattock and Oakley have all fallen short at different points this season and been singled out the sole 'weak link'... it's just not that simple. The only draw back to Hendrie/Oakley is it leaves the left wide open... with the only options beyond Hendrie being Hume, Mattock, Lazsko and Porter (when ever he returns)... also do we stand a chance at prizing Hendrie away from Sheff Utd?
Flynny Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 Obviously Hendrie/Oakley. We should pay whatever Sheff U want for Hendrie in the summer and make him Captain.

Hendrie skipper?... not sure about that, although by the sounds of it he did a great deal yesterday to lead the team. He's done a better job for us so far than he ever did with Sheff Utd, having said that yesterday was a game against ten then nine men and he was playing against WestBrom, that for a player like Hendrie will have meant a lot!... so no premature hailing of the new messiah.

Weso and King ahead of Clemence for me with Oakley/Hendrie starting. I cannot see what Clemence has been offering that's of any great significance. Won't make any difference mind. Clemence will soon be back.

Agreed, Clemence will be back although literally only about 2% of the fans (in this poll) want him. I think in 2/3 years time Weso and King could be an excellent central midfield pairing, great balance. For now they are decent back-up.
Mort Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 i think in 2/3 years time Weso and King could be an excellent central midfield pairing, great balance. For now they are decent back-up. Doesnt a King/Weso pairing lack a little in attack?... i mean King can certainly go forward and support the attack, carrying the game forward with him... but I'd still be a bit unsure with that combination but we've got years to wait to see how it might work.
Bryn Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I reckon yesterday's formation might actually have had Clemence in mind.... I think he's looking at ways to incorporate all three centre midfielders as well as all three centre-backs, hence reverting to 5-3-2. Fryatt or Hayles would make way for Clemence and Hendrie would push even further forward.

Flynny Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 I dunno, if he really wants to accomodate them all, an orthodox four like this works: Mattock - Clem - Oakley - Hendrie So I don't really see the need. The only other place I could see Clemence would be on the left, but that'd be very defensive.
Koke Posted 16 March 2008 Posted 16 March 2008 And overwhelming 95% goes for Hendrie and Oakley. You know where your place is Mr Clemence - And that's on the bench next to James Chambers playing rock, scissor, paper, best out of 500.

I think a few more years of development, a loan spell out to a team in the league below us to get regular football and Andy King will mature into a fine attacking midfielder to slot in alongside Weso. I can understand your concerns but he has shown, as you say, he can go forward.
