Fooking useless rip off, not only do they cost a fortune in comparison to the actually printer but they are classed as empty by the printer when they're still half full.

My printer wont print anything when this happens - bastard!!!

Hence the advantages of working in an office.

It's taken me nearly 2 hours to print 2 documents/pages. :frusty:

It costs me £55 when my printer runs out of ink. Bloody Epson.

The bloke in Cartridge World that I always commiserate with says that Canon ones have the lowest running costs. I'm sharing his expertise with you all - and you'd think he'd know about it, wouldn't you?

I struggle with motivation on some days too.

Most days in fact.

Alright then - every day.

if its a lexmark ,sometimes giving the cartridge a bit of a shake helps

It's a Brother, I used to have a lexmark but the cartridges were even dearer. I tried shaking them didn't help.

I went through this problem a few months ago I had an Epson printer, I don't really use the printer but my cousin was stopping at mine and looking for a job so needed to print stuff off so bought just the black cartridge and it didn't work it needed the 4 other coloured cartridges for it to work, according to Epson it's a safety procedures, if one cartridge build up pressure it could explode, e.t.c

Bullshit. Money grabbing bastards.

At 15 quid per cartridge, I ain't paying that, so went down the Currys and bought a new printer (With exactly what the other printer had - Scanner, Photo Copier) for 30 quid with cartridges included, so got a new printer for cheaper than cartridges.

I'm currently trying to sell the Epson printer to one of the Poles at work, 10 quid...Bargain.

...He's caught me out though, the morning I asked him if we had a deal and he replied "It has not cartridges...I can't check if it work", I said yeah I know but its a great scanner...he's still considering.

I just do the 5 minute walk to the Business School where I get 1000 free pages of printing every term

4000 pages between October last year and mid-September this year, or about 80 a week.

I knew there was a reason I'm being charged an extortionate amount for this course.

When my printer runs out (Epson Stylus Photo R300) it costs me about a fiver to replace the ink

Compatible cartriges all the way (99p each)

And there's really no difference in quality

That's what I've got. And you've just reminded me I've got some cheapo ebay cartridges in my drawer which I've never tried. Get in

They really are the way to do it.

My dad's an amateur photographer, and even he says with his photo printer, there isn't much difference between using compatible and branded cartriges, he uses the latter because at that quality it does make a slight difference, but for anything other than professional photo printing, use compatible.

So my printers finally given up just after I've bought a whole batch of cartridges for it.

now in this crazy consumable world it's cheaper to buy a new printer than even to attempt to get the old one fixed, not that there's anywhere to take it.

So I'm looking for a scanner/photo copier/printer that can print photos and where the ink cartridges don't require an international loan to finance the prurchases.

Which make model is the best option then?

There is no such printer. There are expensive ones but nothing cheap.

I picked up a Pixma MP760 on clearance at Ebuyer.

Inks cost me £26 for three sets plus three additional black cartridges from 999Inks.com.

If there's better value than that I've not heard of it yet.

That's the one my Dad's got.

It was great until he didn't use it for ages and the ink dried up in the head. I've run all the self cleaning stuff and tried cleaning it with alcohol etc but no joy, it's buggered. I'd suggest making sure you print a page or two off every couple of weeks just to keep stuff moving.

You didn't ask for my advice BUT I NEVER LET THAT STOP ME

I've got a Lexmark . I bought 2 recycled cartridges. Unfortunately the coloured one wouldn't work after only about a week and it's not the first time I've had that problem with recycled cartridges.

I've found out now you can buy the new cartridges from ASDA for only a little more than the recycled and they're far more reliable.

:D

It is more prone to that during the summer months and constant use seems to be the best thing for it.

I bought mine after reading reviews online - and no one seemed to have a bad word for it back when I did. I'm clueless about what current models are any cop.

If you use the search function on the 999 page it can throw up a result simply because the cartridge may be cross-referenced to a printer that is no longer listed as supported. My printer is no longer listed but they still sell the ink sets for it
