He's back in training now or so Ollie claims.

He got crooked against Chelsea back in October.

He was swapped for a bag of marbles and a gobstopper but then Mandaric's Mum said he couldn't do that and phoned up the other Mum to get him swapped back...but Mandaric had sucked the gobstopper and there was hair on it and stuff...so this will probably go to court.

I wonder what future Porter has here? I actually rated Porter for the majority of last season, but I did start to worry he got found out by opposing defenders and there was little else to his game. This injury hasn't helped and I reckon his attitude is a tad suspect.

It will be interesting to see what Holloway makes of him, the start of last season he was very effective.

One thing that Thracian will love is that we scored a lot more set pieces last season and Porter took a lot of them.

First thing will be to see how his recovery goes. And to see if there are any vacancies after the inevitable glut of yet more new signings.

Then, when it's found that the alternatives are no better than what we have he will still have to fight off competition from either the much touted Laczko (if he stays) or, finally, if all else fails, that Ryan Beswick lad who's game seems limited just to scoring goals, making goals, delivering pinpoint free kicks and fast, accurate passes.

Not at all the sort of player we've generally chosen on the left wing since Holloway arrived.

I like Levi actually and I hope he sorts himself out so he can play for us again.

OK, before his injury he did start to fall short a bit and put in some pretty poor performances but he wasn't alone in that. Last season however he looked pretty sharp, and even this season especially against Chelsea before obviously getting injured.

There's definitely aspects of his game that tell me he's worth keeping. I just hope he has a good pre-season and we can see the best of him again.

I have seen him play in central midfield and as witnessed by his chip for a DJ goal he has good creative touches in that area. If he his to have a career he will have to come inside from the wing.:thumbup:

He's tricky and decepctively quite strong...............that's why Willy Wonka's hired him as a replacement for one of the Umpa Lumpas!!!

I have seen him play in the centre for the reserves before he made his breakthrough in the first team and it transformed his game, but I have doubts about him being a central midfielder at this level. Although he's not naturally quick or overly skillful, I thought some of his performances on the left wing last season were encouraging. But he started getting found out by other teams and once they marked him tightly, it was game over for the lad towards the end of the season. I suppose that's where his lack of rapid pace and skill get's exposed as you need those attributes to shake off the army of markers.

I don't think he has the strength to play central midfield.

...and put on some weight, withstand knocks, stop being injured, add a bit of speed and grow taller.

The trend nowadays is for wingers to move all over the place and the problem at City when Kelly was here was that he seemed tied to the left side - either in defence or attack - and we had no-one who could really take over from him on the left if he did move because Kelly seemed to regard Shush! as a non-person and he was the extent of our alternatives.

It's arguably different now, especially if Gradel comes into the fold and if we use the likes of Beswick, Hendrie and King who are all versatile and aware enough to occupy vacated space.

Porter's problem as a permanent central midfielder is that he's not much use in the air, by contrast to King, but used in a free role he really does have the skills, accuracy and imagination to make things happen especially when surrounded by other players who can pass and move.

I didn't see the Oldham reserve game but I'd bet that the big difference between that game and the one which involved so many first teamers on the Monday was the passing, moving and understanding.

Only Andy King, Matty Fryatt and D.J. Campbell really suited that kind of football on Monday mseeing as Mattock seemed to be mentally elsewhere and Beswick/McKay were on the bench.

On the Wednesday they were virtually all pass and move merchants and it is difficult for the opposition to win when they cannot get the ball and when the whole team supports attacks as would the likes of Porter, Beswick, King, Gradel and Hendrie were they to be first team regulars.

People perhaps forget Porter and Gradel can play on either flank, Porter can also play inside, Beswick can play almost anywhere and even King can operate in attack, in defence and even out wide when called upon.
