GLC Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 The man once voted Leicester City's greatest player has called on the present crop of players to stand up and be heroes. City take on Stoke on the final day of the season desperate to secure their Championship status. And Steve Walsh, who famously scored the goals that clinched play-off glory in 1994, described the showdown as a chance for "heroes to step forward". Walsh topped a "Cult Hero" poll three years ago to find City's top player - and insisted Sunday's trip to the Britannia Stadium was an opportunity for Ian Holloway's men to write their names in the club's history. Walsh said: "Tough situations are merely opportunities for heroes to step forward and claim their place in history. "This weekend should be what every player in this club can't wait for. It's what separates professionals from amateurs - it's what they train for." Walsh is familiar with what it takes to become a hero among the Blue Army in hugely important games. He scored both goals at Wembley to see off Derby in the 1994 play-off final. And he captained the side to another play-off victory two years later against Crystal Palace. And Walsh, a Mercury columnist, also knows what is required during the drama of a last-day relegation battle. His total of almost 450 games for City included the 1-0 victory against Oxford on the final day of the 1990/91 season that kept City in the second tier. City now have their own last-day decider. Victory will guarantee Championship football next season. A draw will be good enough, provided Southampton fail to beat Sheffield United at St Mary's Stadium, while City can stay up with a defeat as long as the Saints also lose. City's hopes of getting more tickets for their fans on Sunday have been dashed by the police who have blocked moves to open up the South Stand at the Britannia. whos our hero gonna be?
Nationwider Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 Walsh said: "Tough situations are merely opportunities for heroes to step forward and claim their place in history."This weekend should be what every player in this club can't wait for. It's what separates professionals from amateurs - it's what they train for." Eh? Can't wait to be battered by a rampant Stoke team? Can't wait to play their last game for the club, perhaps?

Fox You Forest Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 Then he could go back in time and put one of the numerous chances against Bristol City in.
Wycombe Fox Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 I'd love it if Elvis Hammond (ankle better now) came off the bench on Sunday to score a last minute winner for us. Instant cult hero. Oh how we've missed those offsides this year!
