Trav Le Bleu Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 This is not an "excuse" for City, hell, we've been promoted since we built the Walkers, but I was just thinking how other teams who have built similar stadiums to us have fared. Cov - barely safe Saints - worse position than us (I hope after tonight) Derby - promoted, but straight down (like us) on lowest points ever We can get a good atmosphere in the stands, but it's nothing like it was at Filbert St and with the players being further away, I'm sure they notice it less. In short, these "bowl" stadiums are crap

It's not as good atmosphere wise but it's much better in other ways. Perhaps a poll of 'Which do you prefere, the Walkers or Filbert Street' is in order..
Vardinhio Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Walkers Stadium is a nice place. You couldn't have stayed at Filbert Street. It was falling down and had no future in modern day football.
Leicester Rule! Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 new stadiums are crap. much prefer Yeovil, Bristol Rovers, Oldham, Tranmere ... much more character.

In short, these "bowl" stadiums are crap I dont think its so much the atmosphere, I think the players get a 'We have made it' attitude, they never got that at Filbert Street because it was a shithole. They always wanted to play well in the hope of attracting something better. The atmosphere on Saturday (first Half) was fcking unreal!! The only time I have ever felt so overwhelmed before was at Wembley, just a shame the players didnt react to it

Tabou Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I think it boils down to what the fans make of it. It is the fans that create the atmosphere. Its all very well and good singing our hearts out for 20 minutes, but then what? It's a vicious circle, we perform crap without an atmosphere, but there is no atmosphere when we perform crap. Bowyaaa
purpleronnie Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I love how only english fans blame the stadiums for atmosphere. Its the rules more than anything, when you sit down its tough to create an atmosphere. Its natural to stand to create noise. Thats why most of the time the much smaller amount of away fans (at any ground) make more noise than the home fans. Because most away fans tend to stand.
Ryanside Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 We can get a good atmosphere in the stands, but it's nothing like it was at Filbert St and with the players being further away, I'm sure they notice it less.In short, these "bowl" stadiums are crap Why on earth are people still going on about this, you're talking rubbish. You're sure that the players didnt noticed the first half atmosphere on saturday, or are you saying they did and thought, "the atmosphere is good, but if only we were playing at fratton park or somewhere, with a 3rd less fans, yes that would be better"?? are you mad? The reasons why a team's atmosphere who move to new a stadium suffers are because; A. clubs pay a lot of money for a new stadium so that the club can compete in the future, and obviously they dont come cheap, so of course finances for new players is going be low, thus making the team suffer for a few years until revenue starts coming back in. B. some fans have usually been sitting in their seat for decades at older stadiums, they know where the atmosphere is going to be and so do the people around them. Once in a new stadium, everyone who was together before wont be, and trying to re-create that from the word go in a new stadium just wont happen. It also hasnt help that we have played shocking this season, so it is easy to see why people havent been singing their hearts out for 90 minutes week in week out. Personally, i think a new stadium needs a decent amount of time to settle. When there was terracing still about fans could gather together to sing, now it is not possible each match. Fans do want to sing, and slowly i do believe the fans will find the right places to be and the atmosphere will only get stronger and stronger (unless we go down! ) I just dont buy this "bowl stadium = worse atmosphere" crap
skyblue4ever Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Just thought i would come have a look at you sad foxes to see your opinions on the relegation battle. As for the stadium debate, the Ricoh is very , pretty clean and modern, but completely souless, lacks any feeling of home, especially with absurd way fan allocation, with no home fans near by. At least at leicester you have home fans beside the away.
Ultra Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Derby are going down because they're sh!te, simple as. The atmosphere has been surprisingly good, and can't be used as a factor in any way, shape or form.
Shrenchel Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 The atmosphere at Filbo might have spurred the team on to fight for that last minute equaliser now and again but I don't think overall it makes a huge lot of difference. Lots of teams doing well this year (better than they have for many years in some cases havce shit, plastic, souless grounds.) Hull, Stoke, Swansea, Doncaster, MK Dons. Also, I agree with purpleronnie that fans in England are too quick to blame the design of grounds for the fact the atmosphere is shit. I've been to matches in Europe and South America in huge fooking bowls that are only half full, have no roof, stands so far away from the pitch you can hardly bloody see it, literally 10 or 20 away fans stuck right at the other end of the ground and then atmosphere is twice as good than anything I've ever experienced in England. It's what you make of it. Unfortunately we've got a core of amazing fans, and lot's of ******.
Barry Trotter Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Filbert Street was too small. No room for expansion. We needed a new ground. A bowl shape is the best shape to get a high capacity into a space.
Leicester Rule! Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Stuff unreserved seating ... bring back terraces.

davieG Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Stuff unreserved seating ... bring back terraces. Stuff unreserved seating ... bring back terraces. So good you said it twice. I don't think anyone would disagree but unreserved seating only requires LCFC to change not the law (pedantics beware)
SantiagoFox Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 So good you said it twice.I don't think anyone would disagree but unreserved seating only requires LCFC to change not the law (pedantics beware) Unreserved seating is the best we can hope for in the medium term. Although I'd want a reserved seat in the Unreserved section so I could have a good view when I arrive from the pub at 2.59. Only joking.
davieG Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 nasty, soulless cereal bowl Crisps actually, if you're going to sling insults around do attach some sort of logic to them otherwise it makes you look like a twat.
