Or something.

davieG Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 I believe they were the supporter's club awards held on Saturday night. What a joke, it's bad enough that we have had to endure the shittiest season in living memory, and yes I do remember Oxford but this is like being kicked in the bollocks three times.
Mack Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Good to see the players have still got a sense of humour!
Thracian Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Well done Richard Stearman. He, Hume and Kisnorbo are probably the only regular outfield players who can hold their heads up after this season and Kisnorbo more for his effort and consistency than his actual play once he got the ball.
Koke Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 I thought Hume was in for a shout. He's been messed about with it all season, but yet he's produced the goods. Into double figures again this season. But well done to Stearman though.
DB11 Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Stearman He had 1 or 2 months of being good for before and after that he was (and is atm) SHITE
mancunianfox Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Stearman He had 1 or 2 months of being good for before and after that he was (and is atm) SHITE Sorry but Stearman has been easily our best player this season. He consistantly plays well and always looks like he cares about the club and the team. Sticks and Hume were the only two who looked like they wanted to stay up on Saturday.

Foxhateram Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 It was Stearman's fault for two of their goals so it wasn't the fact we were not marking up in the middle correctly, and that we threw everyone upfront to try and get the equaliser and got on the break then?
DB11 Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 so it wasn't the fact we were not marking up in the middle correctly, and that we threw everyone upfront to try and get the equaliser and got on the break then? No it was the fact that Stearman was letting his feelings get the better of him and attacking looking to be a hero. There was many times when he could have passed but he wanted to be a hero so took it on on his own, got tackled and then they broke down our right where he should have been. At the end of the day, he should defend and do his job.
mancunianfox Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 It was Stearman's fault for two of their goals It wasn't Stearman's fault at all, it was Holloway's. Holloway wanted us to push for a second goal and Stearman was going forward to try to help us get one. He can't be in two places at once and was just doing what his manager instructed him to. Besides, Mcauley was well placed to cover him but he got skinned and fell over. I also can't see how the second was Stearman's fault either because Clapham was well out of position and let their player have plenty of time to deliver a good ball into the box and the third goal came from a ball from down their right flank when we had everyone up to try and get an equaliser. At the end of the day, he should defend and do his job. That wasn't the job he was being asked to do. Loosing that game 3-1 was entirely Holloway's fault because he is to inept to realise that at 1-0 up in relegation battle you should be trying to defend the lead. We should have played like Wednesday did when they went 2-1 and parked the bus in front of the goals because at 1-0 up the pressure was on them and not us and they would most probably have bottled it like we did. Holloway kept playing as we had been doing and pushing players up even though our biggest weakness defensively is goals conceeded from counter attacks and he did this because he can only get his teams to play one way.
Koke Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 1-0 up, park the bus in front of goal, and it's Charlton all over again. We should have gone for the 2nd goal and we did. Obviously the gamble didn't pay off as the team didn't even show up second half where it was all Wednesday. But to say we should we should have parked the bus in front of goal is ludicrous and living dangerous life.
DB11 Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 That wasn't the job he was being asked to do. I see what you mean but other than that when he had the ball he wasn't doing anything with it. He was hitting it nowhere or getting tackle too often.
Tommy G Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 No it was the fact that Stearman was letting his feelings get the better of him and attacking looking to be a hero. Balls. Letting what feelings get the better of him? He wasn't trying to be a hero, just trying to get forward and create things. Which is a damn sight more than some of the other clueless players on the pitch. If he sat back and defended then he still wouild have got slated He can't win with anything he does

Hang on didn't we get a draw against Charlton ? that may in the grand scheme of things have been enough to keep us up if we had drew with Sheff Weds .
Corky Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Balls.Letting what feelings get the better of him? He wasn't trying to be a hero, just trying to get forward and create things. Which is a damn sight more than some of the other clueless players on the pitch. If he sat back and defended then he still wouild have got slated He can't win with anything he does I know, in some ways I'm feel sorry for him. I would rather he was trying to get forward and create instead of planting himself 30 yards from our goal all match.

But to say we should we should have parked the bus in front of goal is ludicrous and living dangerous life. I agree. I think we were right to push for the second goal but (from what I've read) we were let down by a severe lack of confidence in the players when Wednesday equalised. For that Holloway must however still take a large portion of the blame.
Simon Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 No it was the fact that Stearman was letting his feelings get the better of him and attacking looking to be a hero. McAuley was the covering defender- he had the attacker in his back pocket and allowed himself to be turned. I can be one of Stearman's harshest critics (and was, last season especially!) but I don't think you can blame him for that one.
Mack Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 Stearman gets an A+ for effort but a D- for distribution and positioning. Sadly it's not as simple as just giving 110%, you also have to be of a standard. Just like that run he made into thr Wednesday box on Saturday. Bags of effort and determination but little final product.
Joe. Posted 29 April 2008 Posted 29 April 2008 No way does Stearman deserve this award. You shouldn't merit an award for effort, what's the point in that? I say fair play to Stearman for turning his game around after Holloway's bollocking and I applaud him for his performances after this. But for the first 2/3's of the season he was one of our worst players, and that's saying something in what we've witnessed this season. Most improved player yes, well done to him for that, but player of the season? No chance.
