demon_dog Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Having just arrived back from my local hostely, slightly persisseted, I feel as if I have to ask this question. Having spoken to 6 season ticket holders I know, 4 say sack Ollie, 2 say keep him. The question that then arose was that if Ollie were to go who would we get to replace him? Obviously Dowie was mentioned, but not the preffered choice. Davies was the preffered man, until I mentioned Mike Newll. All of the six agreed that he would be the ideal manager to replace Ollie. The only question I have is would he be on MM's short list and would he work with MM. If you had a choice would you go for Newell? Opinions please.
Daggers Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Opinions please. I think they should re-introduce conscription
Cheese Me Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 A long way from being my first choice. Ince for me please.
Jordan Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Mike Newell hates agents. Milan Mandaric loves giving agents money so much that he's been questioned by the police about shady transfers. Can we close this thread?
Raj Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Jose Mourinho for me. If not him then that fat Portugese bloke who nearly took over England. If not him then Sven. Cheers!

Built three good sides up on a shoe string at Luton but had to keep selling his players. He says what he thinks which I personally consider a bonus in this world of media soundbites. I think MM should have learnt by now that he doesn't know as much about football as he thinks he does, if it wasn't for Harry (who he sacked once), Portsmouth would also have been a debacle like us. If MM can control his ego I think Newell is worth a try. Why would Ince want to come and how many others would be put off by Mad Mandy>
Corky Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Chris Hutchings is out of a job, he'd be a good candidate. Or Jose Mourinho.
Webbo Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Jose Mourinho for me.If not him then that fat Portugese bloke who nearly took over England. If not him then Sven. Cheers! Frank Rijkaard is available too .
Narborough Bod Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Jose Mourinho for me.If not him then that fat Portugese bloke who nearly took over England. If not him then Sven. Cheers! I know this is a joke Raj, but some people are still writing into the Merc believing that we could get Jose or Sven, if they are that stupid, how are they able to write a letter?
Kilworthfox Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 , really hope this is tongue in cheek I am genuinely confused I think he has done really well as Assistant where ever he has been, and he is only Assistant at Spurs, maybe he wants a go in the big chair? Maybe a gamble / optimistic If not, ah well
Sparky Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I am genuinely confused I think he has done really well as Assistant where ever he has been, and he is only Assistant at Spurs, maybe he wants a go in the big chair? Maybe a gamble / optimistic If not, ah well Not a chance in hell he would come here mate , his name gets mentioned for candidates for Chelsea if Grant gets the bullet. I dont think he would leave Spurs even for a lower Premiership job
Kilworthfox Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Steve McClaren was a good assistant. IMO, Poyet is the reason that Swindon and Leeds did well under w*se. Not a chance in hell he would come here mate , his name gets mentioned for candidates for Chelsea if Grant gets the bullet. I dont think he would leave Spurs even for a lower Premiership job Yeah it's a long shot but a big opportunity for the right guy!
Corky Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Poyet will be a superb manager i reckon , just not here I agree. We seem to be a graveyard for decent managers (Levein and Allen to name a couple).
dandannieldanok Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Chris Hutchings is out of a job, he'd be a good candidate. He's recently joined Paul Jewell at Derby, doubt he'd leave straight away.

Maybe a gamble / optimistic If not, ah well Poyet was the man behind Leeds early season success not Wise, which is partly why he got the Spurs job. If he wanted a bigger chair it wouldn't be us we are a small club. I bet his first job in management, whenever that is will be a premiership club, he is that well regarded. I do like your optimism however!
Joe. Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I'd personally very much like to have Mike Newell as manager if Holloway was sacked. However I'd sense a massive personality clash between him and Mandaric.
dandannieldanok Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I wouldn't be devastated with Newell, but how about someone like Steve Tilson?
Father Ted Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Why are people even mention Mike Newell's name? He is a shocking manager and he would not get on with MM. Haven't people realised yet that MM wants manager who will lick his butt and do what he says. That's why he got rid of Allen, because they were clashing, that's why he got Megson because he would do what MM says, the same with Holloway. I'm afraid to say that we will never really get an aggressive manager while MM is chairman.
Sandman Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I mentioned in another topic last week that Mike Newell was a good candidate, problem is in life in general, gaffers, chairman etc don't like others who tell u the truth, and not cover it up with lies. Newell has credibility, he was the only man to stand up to the corruption in the game, and since then no chairman has touched him, because they are scared to. I believe Newell would be great for this club. I mean WARNOCK tells the TRUTH (aboout us), and we slammed him for it, how much we regret that now eh?
lildave3 Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 He's recently joined Paul Jewell at Derby, doubt he'd leave straight away. Which means he's going to be Derby's manager in a few years.
