Fox in a Box Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_3564959,00.html Iain UGLY Dowie has been appointed as the new first team coach of ambitious Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers. The former Oldham, Crystal Palace, Charlton and Coventry manager has signed a two-year contract at Loftus Road. Dowie steps into the hot-seat vacated by Luigi De Canio just days after the end of the current season, in which the club finished in 14th place. Backed by the financial muscle of Formula One duo Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, the Rs are expected to be strong contenders for promotion to the Premier League next term. Innovative approach Dowie, who spent a previous spell as caretaker boss at QPR and worked as assistant manager under Gerry Francis, told the club's official website: "This is a very exciting long-term project. "I'm very privileged to have been given the opportunity under the new ownership to return to the club where I served my managerial apprenticeship. "I've been thoroughly impressed by the new investors and their fresh, aggressive and innovative approach to all sporting matters, as well as the marketing and commercial aspect of this football club. "QPR is a fantastic club, with a steep and successful history and I'm going to relish the challenge that lies ahead." Sporting director Gianni Paladini added: "Iain Dowie has a proven track record in the Championship and we're delighted to have him on board."

lavrentis Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Few months into the new season I'm sure you'll find a "Dowie Sacked"
Tilley Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 What a relief. In November he'll probably be gone though November? Thats a little generous.

Joe. Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Well seeing as Holloway's staying it doesn't really matter where Sloth's gone now. Good stuff anyway I suppose.
Corky Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 QPR fans cannot be happy about this. Sombrero man will be crying
Tilley Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Surely worth a tenner on Dowie being sacked by Christmas??
Joe. Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I think it's just me who thinks he'll do well there then...
LeeCovFox Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 My Q.P.R supporting flatmate is fairly pleased with this. I don't mind Dowie myself, but I did point out to him that his club have replaced a manager who got them playing some good stuff for someone who just won't. I can still see a top 6 finish for them so long as Dowie buys wisely, but then you could say that for any club in that league.
LeeCovFox Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 They've signed Radek Cerny and Peter Ramage. They both look good signings on the face of it, but it all depends on what Dowie thinks of them and vice versa. They were joining anyway, even when De Canio was still in charge. Q.P.R operate along European lines, with chairman Paladini also undertaking a Director of Football role. The manager tells him what kind of player he is looking for, Paladini gets the scouts on to it. Also, if somebody catches the eye of the scouts, Paladini will ask the manager if he wants to check him out. Paladini is also in charge of contract negotiations. Its a model that I quite like, but I'm not entirely sure that it will work for Dowie. Time will tell I guess.
lildave3 Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Mad appointment imo. Surely there is better people out there for them.
hairy Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 Its amazing appointment for a team whos owner said last season they would be playing champions league football in five seasons time
Ultra Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I think a little more humility is in order. I can't see Dowie taking QPR into the third division.
Corky Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I think a little more humility is in order.I can't see Dowie taking QPR into the third division. If they start badly he'll be gone.
hairy Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I think a little more humility is in order.I can't see Dowie taking QPR into the third division. The team he was sacked from in Feb only escaped the third division by one place so have another look.
Joe. Posted 14 May 2008 Posted 14 May 2008 I think its an odd appointment for the club but can people honestly see QPR failing with the kind of money they have? I can't. I'm still tipping them for promotion.
