wurmer Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Thats exactly what I wanted to say, you've saved me the job. I take it your talking about today and not the IRA incident? I think it's me being thick. Wasn't the IRA bomb a device attached to the bottom of a Landrover that fell off?? seem to remember something like that. 20th February 1990 : The IRA detonate a bomb at Leicester Army Recruiting Office. MP Keith Vaz suggests that the army may have planted the bomb. Explosion injured 2 people. Babylon Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Wasn't the IRA bomb a device attached to the bottom of a Landrover that fell off?? seem to remember something like that. Not sure, it was the army offices on Granby Street I think or somewhere near there. I was only a kid though so it's a bit sketchy. MP Keith Vaz suggests that the army may have planted the bomb. Good old Keith Vaz... someone should blow that c*** up.
Webbo Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Yes it's you being thick... although I was in town and not far away on the day of the IRA bomb (I was shopping with my mum, ha) I thought it was the INLA. I remember that day well, I heard the bang 3 miles away in Rushey Mead.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Wasn't the IRA bomb a device attached to the bottom of a Landrover that fell off?? seem to remember something like that. That's about right. It was stuck to a van outside the Armed Forces recruiting centre on either Yeoman or Rutland Street, one or the other. It fell off and detonated in the road, breaking a couple of windows and if I remember rightly upsetting a woman who may or may not have been driving the van. It's one of Leicester's claims to fame in my book - the site of the IRA's least spectacular attack ever
Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 MP Keith Vaz suggests that the army may have planted the bomb. Oh yes, I remember that. It was in the immediate aftermath (if you can call it an aftermath) when everything was a bit confused, and it was probably the first thing that came into his head, the daft sod. I've never been able to take him seriously since, although his enormous expense claims haven't really helped either
Guest Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 It was Yeoman Street, and I had used it as a short cut just 20 minutes earlier.
Benji Posted 29 May 2008 Author Posted 29 May 2008 It was Yeoman Street, and I had used it as a short cut just 20 minutes earlier. Could have been a short cut to hell
Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 It was Yeoman Street, and I had used it as a short cut just 20 minutes earlier. You weren't the lady that got upset, were you?
Guest Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 You weren't the lady that got upset, were you? I have never been a lady. I was only a child at the time!! Cheeky bugger!!
Ultra Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Not sure, it was the TA offices on Granby Street I think. I was only a kid though so it's a bit sketchy.Good old Keith Vaz... someone should blow that c*** up. Keyboard warrior of the week... It should be noted that no-one claimed responsibility for the 1990 bomb, nor was anyone ever arrested for planting it. So his theory hasn't been completely disproved...
Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 I have never been a lady. I was only a child at the time!! Cheeky bugger!! You were a teenager unless I'm much mistaken. On the very cusp of womanhood. Possibly. I think the bomb was planted by Keith Vaz. He's fooled us all with his stupid army story

Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 I wasn't 18, ergo, therefore, I wasn't an adult. I was a child.Ok. I think the important thing in all this is that I'm younger* than you *slightly
Guest Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 I think the important thing in all this is that I'm younger* than you*slightly Physically, yes. Mentally, highly debatable.
RowlattsFox Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 A terror suspect was arrested a couple of streets away from me yesterday, was on the front of yesterdays Mercury. Not really related to this thread but I just wanted to say
Lillehamring Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Why would anyone want to blow up Leicester anyway? fill your boots, terrorists...
Scow Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 I got in to Leicester for about 7.30 and Churchgate was cordoned off, so I had to walk around the new Shires development to get in to town. Some old woman was having a go at the police for not allowing her to go up Churchgate. "There's no bomb on that bus, it's not blown up, so let me fuc king through." Lovely stuff.

Flynny Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Inexplicably foul-mouthed old women are actually the best thing in the world.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Anyone could jump on a train tomorrow, arrive in Kings Cross or Victoria or Paddington or any other large terminal and blow themselves up. Nowhere is secure from someone who is happy to kill themselves in order to kill others. And the multi-racial thing would probably be a reason not too blow up Leicester. I really don't want to descend into a political argument but given the large Muslim community in Leicester and the fact that the greatest terrorist threat is currently posed by Muslim fundamentalists it doesn't make much sense to target Leicester, does it? Anyway I'm no expert on the criteria for a bomb target so I'll stop now! Im round the corner from there when i live at my dads, like now
Asha Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Im round the corner from there when i live at my dads, like now No-ones safe, really. Internally or externally, so many things can overcome us and something eventually will.

AoWW Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 Get-a-Grip. Will that save me from terrorist attacks, then?
