syston_fox Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 I was tempted by the Frankie Boyle gig but forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago and then couldn't be bothered. Have seen Michael McIntyre, Bill Bailey, Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais in the last couple of years and they were all quality and worth seeing if you get the chance.
Finnegan Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 Wrong. In all due respect, how much stand up have you actually seen?
Webbo Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 I've just downloaded his latest stand up DVD, I'll give you my review later in the week.
Simi Posted 18 November 2008 Author Posted 18 November 2008 In all due respect, how much stand up have you actually seen? I've seen a fair bit, obviously not an expert like some probably are. I enjoyed the show and thought it flowed well.
andyh1884 Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 Having seen Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard, John Bishop, Jason Manford, Michael MacIntyre (twice), Paddy McGuinness, Dara O'Briain, Lucy Porter, Daniel Kitson, Lee Mack and Frankie Boyle in the last year, I have to say Frankie Boyle is in my top two along with Dara O'Briain. Frankie's style is to tell joke after joke, whilst Dara is more stories but both had me crying with laughter for pretty much their entire sets.
Finnegan Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 I've seen a fair bit, obviously not an expert like some probably are. I enjoyed the show and thought it flowed well. Sure, he's a professional, it'd be pretty bad if he wasn't funny at all. I'm just saying the more you immerse yourself in the amateur and semi pro circuits, the more you properly indulge in stand up the more you realise people like Frankie Boyle are just middle of the road comedians that found a formula that works well for them and got lucky. Don't get me wrong, I think he's piss funny on MTW and I agree he runs the show. I'm just saying I wouldn't pay that much to go see him live having seen his show on TV, it's average at best compared to others.
Rodderz Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 I want to go and see marcus brigstock when i get the chance think he is top quality. never been to see frankie boyle but to be honest i would'nt turn a ticket down he is a good comic

Webbo Posted 24 November 2008 Posted 24 November 2008 I've just downloaded his latest stand up DVD, I'll give you my review later in the week. Watched this last night, some really big laughs and a few not so big laughs. Not the best I've seen but still worth watching 7.5/10
Head Honcho Posted 24 November 2008 Posted 24 November 2008 No, but am seeing Reginald D hunter and Michael McIntyre this year.In all fairness, he does write alot of material for panel shows like 8 out of 10 cats for example. Reggie D - Brilliant McIntyre is about as funny as cancer
Corky Posted 24 November 2008 Posted 24 November 2008 Reggie D - BrilliantMcIntyre is about as funny as cancer I agree on both counts.
Joe. Posted 24 November 2008 Posted 24 November 2008 I watched his stand up DVD earlier and thought it was shit to be honest. He's much funnier when he's on MTW that's for sure.
James. Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Right then. I really want to watch the DVD but I don't want to see it if it's practically the same show as what I'll be seeing live in London in December. Does anyone know if it's the same? The DVD is from June at the Hackney Empire so I reckon it's probably going to be very similar stuff... Anyone been to see him recently and seen the DVD? Ched? Anyone?

Anyone? most comedians use the same jokes and act for years you see some of them churning out jokes on tv that were in their live shows years before so I would imagine it's probably very very similar maybe the odd different joke but I would imagine as a whole it's probably practically the same throughout.
