Phube Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Just found out (on average) they have a basic pay of £32,000, and their pay deal (that they're striking over) would put them up to about £39,000!!! Good if you can get it!! To put into comparison to get that pay in the NHS you have to be on Band 8... there are only 9 Bands!! For or against the strike!? You decide!
stez Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 yes i was amused to hear what they wanted, because they 'have to concentrate a bit' if they wanna strike though it's up to them, i ust don't think they'll find many sympathisers. one this morning was comparing himself to a premiership footballer
Daggers Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 To put into comparison to get that pay in the NHS you have to be on Band 8... there are only 9 Bands!! ...and I bet seven of them just play that modern Indie shit.
Jay Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 how can anyone turn down a 14% pay rise over 2years is just crazy, to be paid over £40 000 is VERY good money especially for the Ellesmere Port area they must be among the highest earners in the community!! they should count themselves lucky to have such a job imo I am sure that there are 1000's of people / Lorry Drivers who would love to earn such money.

Maybes Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 They get paid £32,000 a year for driving a fudging lorry?
Phube Posted 13 June 2008 Author Posted 13 June 2008 They get paid £32,000 a year for driving a fudging lorry? Quite! And they are striking because their new pay deal will only see them on nearly 40k a year!!!
James. Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 They get paid £32,000 a year for driving a fudging lorry? Similar salary to what tube drivers get paid to spend 4 days a week pressing a couple of buttons.
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Prehaps if those wankstains weren't paid so much we wouldn't have to pay so much for fing petrol.
andyh1884 Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 They get paid £32,000 a year for driving a fudging lorry? It's danger money - they're driving a lorry full of highly flammable liquid around. I've seen enough films/episodes of Casualty to know those things can go up with the slightest knock. I'm sure I heard somewhere that they've not had a payrise for several years, which is why they're asking for such a big hike now. Not that this justifies earning considerably more than the average salary for sitting on your arse in a cab/roadside cafe all day. I'll expect to see a nice big increase in the price I pay for my diesel over the weekend, what with the reduced supply cos of their striking. Thanks truckers!

Bellend Sebastian Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 You're all being a bit mean, I reckon. They get paid loads because they work absurd hours and ridiculously anti-social ones at that. It's a good living money wise but it's hardly a laugh, is it? Although there are a lot of jobs that don't pay very well that are bloomin' hard work, there are relatively few where you get paid a lot for doing next to bugger all, and being a lorry driver certainly isn't one of them

DBEightyFive Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 What they are playing on is that they are HAZMAT qualified drivers and not just standard LGV drivers.
The People's Hero Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 I'm guessing that's hazardous materials? I could do that.
DBEightyFive Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Yeah sorry but thats only stage one of hazardous material driving from what I can gather. Proper hazardous material drivers, i.e. chemicals etc get paid more than these stage one hazardous petrol tanker drivers
The People's Hero Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 I drive a car - my car has petrol in it (or at least it did until I couldn't afford to fill it up). Should I be HAZMAT qualified to drive my car?
DBEightyFive Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Maybe you should get a 5ltr gerry can, fill it up and then you will be transporting hazardous material aswell. No one can argue then!!
The People's Hero Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Right. I demand my £40k. Also, as I'm on strike I'm going home. But I have no petrol!!!!!! Argh! Hoisted by my own stupid selfish patard.
DBEightyFive Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 You've got to prove you deserve it first...drive really slowly down the motorway (bit hard with no petrol but hey), concentrate a bit, blockade somewhere (doesn't matter where) and I think you'll be pretty much guaranteed your £40k
Dr The Singh Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 You've got to prove you deserve it first...drive really slowly down the motorway (bit hard with no petrol but hey), concentrate a bit, blockade somewhere (doesn't matter where) and I think you'll be pretty much guaranteed your £40k This si going to be a reoccuring event in many sectors, unofrtunately miney is tight for mony and costs have risen but many corporations are still making massive profits. Unions etc will no doubt get as much of that profit as it can!!!
AoWW Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 They get paid £32,000 a year for driving a fudging lorry? Anyone got linkage to the application form?
Phube Posted 13 June 2008 Author Posted 13 June 2008 OMG one of the Strike leaders was just on Sky news... They just want a "Fair living wage".... Christ I wish I could manage to live on £39k .... Tossers!
DBEightyFive Posted 13 June 2008 Posted 13 June 2008 Farkin hell, I'm on just over half that and I can manage fine!! Like the bloody Tube drivers that are on over £30k going on strike over pay or pensions or whether they can wear trainers to work or whatever it is this week every time I go to the big smoke!!
