Mickey O'Neil Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 Right you lot, I know someone on here can help. Basically, I really need to get to Australia for the 15th & 16th of August 2009. I need to be in Melbourne on those dates. I've looked at flights to both Sydney and Melbourne, and they are virtually the same price. Looking at the history of the price of flights to Australia from the last couple of years, it looks like I won't get much change from £1100 (flight only) I've also been into Milingtons, and they reckon about 1100 quid. Does anyone have any experience of getting there, erm, slightly cheaper? There must be a way. Thanks.
Alexikokopops Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 I'm not sure how much it was, but when I went with my family a few years back the cheapest was Austria Airlines. Flew to Vienna, then direct from Vienna to Sydney (refuelling in Malaysia)
Mickey O'Neil Posted 18 June 2008 Author Posted 18 June 2008 Try economy class 'Tis f ucking economy class!!!!! (just checking out Vienna now)

Smiffy Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 Take a look at Sidestep.com. Its a bit early to be looking that far out but this site searches all the travel sites.

Well with the price of fuel £1100 might seem like a snip in fourteen months time.
Stuliasz Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 You could probably take a cheaper flight to Perth, might be able to get under £600.00 and then an internal flight using a budget airline like Jetstar over to Melbourne, I would recommend into Melbourne Avalon airport as it tends to be cheaper than flights to Melbourne Intl. From there you will be about 30-45 minutes drive away from Melbourne (as my memory serves me) and pretty much in the city of Geelong so access to Melbourne should be quite easy.
Monk Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 All over this one. First of all sign up for an RBS Royalties account you get 10% off flights. £10 a month or something but you can cancel it when you book the flight. Look on KAYAK for flights - if you sign up then you can put in flexibility of +/- 3 days which usually brings up cheaper prices. One tip that could work for you is to find the cheapest flight to Singapore (usually £450 - £500) and book the rest of the trip using Tiger Airways - it may save you a few bob. (Tiger are the Singapore equivalent of Easyjet, and are very good)

Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 June 2008 Author Posted 19 June 2008 Thanks everyone ('cept those that said dig etc!!!). Looking into the suggestions right now.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Tiger Airways is fine, if you want to fly cheap arse at like, 2am.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 June 2008 Author Posted 19 June 2008 Tiger Airlines, Singapore- Melbourne = £99 !!!!!!
Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Thanks everyone ('cept those that said dig etc!!!). Looking into the suggestions right now. It's cheap mate. If you find a beach, sand's easier to dig, you get a good view of the girls while doing it, and because you'll look macho with your spade and repetitive action you might be able to make a job of it. If you get bored with digging through the core, the money you can make by digging and filling people's holes on the beach would pay for the flight anyway. Problem sorted.

loverofinsanefox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Try Cathay Pacific! I flew with them back in March and a return (London - Sydney) was about £775! From Sydney you can get cheap coaches to Melbourne. But I wouldnt use Cathay's website, try booking through organisations such as Flight Centre

isaidno Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I've been looking to go Melbourne myself, the cheapest I could find was £905 with Thai airlines. Quantas have some special offers,it's worth checking them

TBH, I don't think I could face 720 odd miles on a coach! It was bad enough going from Leicester to Gatwick!! I think I'd be too knackered for karate if I got the bus. Love the sig btw Dan.
