Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 But if we don't allow people the opportunity to sing without being drowned out by music at a time when supporter passion is at an optimum level, i.e. after a goal, then how can we expect the atmosphere to ever improve? Granted, it is horrible trying to get a chant going in that stadium but trying to cover up the problem with loud music is surely not the answer? I'm on about just after we score. When we score, we all just go crazy and celebrate, we don't try to start chanting until about half a minute later, or without music a lot less. On a side note, I don't agree that contuining to play Hey Jude a minute into the match is a good thing, as was the case a couple of times last season.
iancognito Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Ashley I wasn't saying that you don't sing, I'm saying that's what I want to do when I go to a game. In much the same way as I've never seen the point in Sky Sports doing an hour's build up to a game and an hour afterwards reviewing it. When I had Sky, I switched over just before kick off and barely waited for the players to get off the pitch before turning over. The Premier League brought us dozens of great players and revolutionised the game but it's also brought us all the things in my 'No' list and they've eroded our game down into something I wouldn't have wanted to watch 10 years ago. If the crowds are around 15K next season, the goal music will echo around Filbert Way and that'll be more embarrassing than anyone dancing like a nutjob to it. If the club wants to do all this if & when we get back to the top flight then great, we'll fit in with the rest but it'll look daft at this level. Sorry, MORE daft....

That song does nothing for me pre-game. We should get the old version of the Post horn gallop back and let that be that!

iancognito Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Does not singing make you a lower level of fan? No, not at all. I had a couple of years in old Main Stand before we moved and despite some great banter with a few guys in there, you'd struggle to get them clapping along with "XXX's Blue Army". It's not singing or atmosphere that's at question here, it's the post-goal stuff. 3/4 of the ground doesn't sing. That has always been the case and is why most clubs have a Kop, an End (Stretford, Shed) or some sort of stand where all the atmosphere is generated. Some will join in at exciting points of the game when the ground is buzzing but mostly it's one section. Nowadays we have L Block. Anyone that wants goal music has obviously never had the joy of celebrating a goal in either the Kop or at an away game. You could be so happy, jumping around with your mates, you'd drown out any goal music or not even notice any had been playing, there's no feeling like it. Couple of seasons back when Fryatt equalised against the Shaggers, bloke behind me was celebrating so much he fell off his seat he was standing on and wiped out me and two blokes in front of me landing on us. Best goal celebration I've had at City in years. Did Chelsea Dagger get played? Didn't notice because I was having a good time.

I was having a good time too. Each is to their own.
Corky Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I despise Chelsea Dagger, it is an awful tune, from a pretty crap band in my opinion. Added to the fact I can't stand goal music, it just makes me more fed up. There honestly is no need for goal music, I would rather have 14,000 people trying to make a noise on their own than be prompted by a hideous blast of shit music.
Flynny Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I don't like the goal music. It actually reminds me of the cricket now. If we have to have some though, can it be something not overdone and not shit?
purpleronnie Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 No, it doesn't.But people who get pissed off with others singing pisses me off. This is why the club should make a large section of the ground for fans who want to sing and create an atmosphere. Not just L1. Having fans seperated throughout the ground wrecks any atmosphere. This should have been done at the start but I cant see it ever happening now too many people with ST who dont want to move.
purpleronnie Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 It's all a bit too Americanised for my liking... Funny how games I've attended in America seem less 'Americanised' than games in England.
Shrenchel Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Funny how games I've attended in America seem less 'Americanised' than games in England. I think you know full well that they've nicked these ideas from baseball, american football and basketball. Obviously MLS is a different story but it is America's influence.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 The theme tune to 'Red Shoe Diaries'!!! David Duchovny, what a legend. As for music, I blame Martin Allen.
Simi Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 No, it doesn't.But people who get pissed off with others singing pisses me off. Goal music just helps take the piss more, it pisses the away fans off, and imo makes more of an atmosphere. But that's it, an opinion. I'm not saying anyone who doesn't agree isn't a fan. Im saying, this is my opinion. I'm not actually the only one. Have you ever watched the away fans when a goal is scored for us? When Chelsea Dagger has come on before I've looked over and seen them completely taking the piss out of us and dancing along with it. It's an embarrasment.
Guest Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Seriously though, I don't think we should have any music after goals. I just hate the idea that fans need a musical incentive to chant and jump about after their team's scored. It's all a bit too Americanised for my liking... Next they'll be calling for girls in short skirts, waving their pom-poms around.....
Corky Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Next they'll be calling for girls in short skirts, waving their pom-poms around..... You offering Lisa?
Floating Fox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 The best noise in football is when someone hits a 35-yard winner into the top corner for an away team in the last minute and there is a huge roar from the away fans and a deadly hush over the rest of the stadium. How stupid would The winning goals in 66 have been with fcking Chelsea Dagger played after Hurst bagged...!
mikelcfc Posted 20 June 2008 Author Posted 20 June 2008 loving the propane nightmares suggestion.. dont think it would be everybodys cup of tea but my god it would be good
lavrentis Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I do like Propane Nightmares as a song for when we score but my hatred got goal scoring music overrides.
