Pearson's 'Backroom Boys' ?

Any thoughts / info on the likely make-up of Nige's 'backroom' team ?

Craig Shakespeare's (does he have a beard ?) been mentioned (currently West Brom's Reserve Coach - he did well to hang around under Mowbray, after Pearson and 'Red Robbo' left, didn't he ?) and ANOTHER Steve Walsh (thank goodness, not ours !) who was given the boot by 'King Kev' from Newcastle a few months ago - apparently Roeder brought him in from Chelsea. Shakespeare as Coach and Walsh as 'Head of Recruitment' (Scout !).

Pearson worked with Shakespeare at the Baggies (and both were Sheff Wed players) and worked with Walsh at Newcastle, so he must know them well (unfortunately Nige and the 'Beard' were with Darren Moore at West Brom - not good news !).

What will happen to Taggs ? And Breacker, Bulpin and Penrice are still City employees, according to the OS.

It sounds like its a done deal, from the Mail story which first broke the Pearson news.

I've heard Shakespeare's got a good reputation - probably the reason why Mowbray kept him. I don't know anything about Walsh, other than he built up some good contacts in Europe, which brought in a few Toon players.

I would imagine Taggs will stay - if only for continuity and to keep the fans happy. Hollowhead's lads will probably soon be shipped out now.

Staff leave Southampton

Southampton have confirmed former caretaker bosses John Gorman and Jason Dodd have left the club.

The pair took charge at St Mary's when George Burley was appointed Scotland boss in January.

Gorman and Dodd remained part of the club's backroom staff when Nigel Pearson took charge but are no longer required by new boss Jan Poortvliet.

Chairman Michael Wilde told the club's website: "Jason and John did everything they could to assist the club."

He added: "However, the club has now adopted a new coaching direction, which together with the financial constraints meant there was no longer a viable role for them.

"Jason, in particular, has been a loyal servant for many years and we thank both him and John for their efforts."

Possibly...

Is Penrice still at City?

Do we have anyone scouting anywhere at all?

as far as the OS is concerned all Ollie's back room staff are still here so yes he is

Financial constraints leading to a new coaching direction?

They sound ****ed.

I'd be amazed if they can better anything other than a relegation battle next season. They're even closing off corners of the stadium as part of their cost-cutting measures. :D

I hope so. If he can get a bit more experience at the club I think he will be a good contender for our 7th manager of the seaon.

I think Gorman would be a good addition in some role because he has alot of experience which Pearson doesnt, I'd rather get that Shakespeare guy as a coach over Dodd though.

On reflection I'd say this thread title sounds like a DVD you'd find on Uncle Albert's bedroom shelf.

What on earth were you doing going through Uncle Albert's DVD collection? More importantly, what exactly were you looking for?

It was just mindless speculation.

I agree - Gorman would be a very good acquisition; experienced and a good reputation (he even kept Lhenn Goddle in check) - might even manage to bring in some decent players. I would imagine that, Pearson keeping him and Dodd on board after taking over (and they were in charge in the interim before him), would show that he rates them. I don't know too much about Dodd, but I think he's a Hampshire boy - I doubt if he'll move up t' north !

Coach

Albion coach Craig Shakespeare is set to join Nigel Pearson’s management team at Leicester after the Foxes were given permission to speak to him.

The move is likely to bring to an end Shakespeare’s nine-year stint as a highly-valued backroom staff man at The Hawthorns.

Sources at Leicester have confirmed Pearson, a former Sheffield Wednesday team mate and a member of Bryan Robson’s management team at Albion, had been given clearance to offer Shakespeare the No.2 role at The Walkers’s Stadium.

It is thought Shakespeare, who also spent three seasons totting up 112 midfield appearances for Albion between 1990-93, is ready to break his ties with the Baggies in order to move a step up the management ladder.

An Albion loyalist through and through, ‘Shakey’ has taken on a number of roles since re-joining the club in 1999 as its Football in the Community Officer.

He moved on to coach at youth, reserve and first team level. He has also operated as a caretaker boss during regime-changes in an often turbulent period for the club.

Shakespseare has been highly regarded by a string of management teams which have come to The Hawthorns and enjoys a strong working bond with current boss Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray is reluctant to stand in Shakespeare’s way, in acknowledgement of his contribution to his own flourishing regime.

It is thought that the agreement could be sorted out quickly to enable Shakespeare to join Pearson this week, as they begin the huge task of raising Leicester from the despair of last season’s relegation to League One under the demanding focus of owner Milan Mandaric.

Good, was hoping Pearson wouldn't be tempted to try and give an unqualified ex-player the job as assistant unlikely a certain Mr. Gregory.

Pearson knew he didn't have to go down the populist route... he was popular enough simply by not being Gregory.

Unbloodylikely.

Most pictures of JGreg involve him looking very depressed and he's always got his arms folded or one hand on his chin.

He's the man Bryan Robson hopes to become one day.
