Darkzzz_ Posted 4 July 2008 Author Posted 4 July 2008 Interesting: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/224...led-before.html It is quite a scary insight really.
James. Posted 4 July 2008 Posted 4 July 2008 Another teenager stabbed. I'm not getting any further into the media bandwagon argument. And I'm not getting drawn into an argument on statistics. I don't care how the media report it, unlike paedophilia (which WAS a media obsession) this can't be conveniently brushed aside. There is a serious f**king problem out there, particularly in London. This latest attack is down the road from where my sister lives. I've just read there has been 6 fatal stabbings in London in the last 5 days - 5 of them in South East London.

James. Posted 4 July 2008 Posted 4 July 2008 Again I don't want to be misinterpreted - I agree this is a serious problem. My comments weren't directly aimed at you, I was just withdrawing from the debate about the media's involvement and presentation of these problems. I'd rather draw light to the issues themselves. As morbid as that is...
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 July 2008 Posted 4 July 2008 It seems very odd that his localised serge in knife and gun crime, in fact violent crime in general, coinsides with Channel 4's disarming Britain week in which they have TV Programs about knives and guns on every night.

purpleronnie Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I read online crime figures are the lowest since 1981 in England & Wales. Some increases though, but overall very good news. I'm sure all those doom merchants won't believe it though. Link
Dr The Singh Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 I read online crime figures are the lowest since 1981 in England & Wales. Some increases though, but overall very good news. I'm sure all those doom merchants won't believe it though. Link The thing is the value's go on reported crime, so it may not be as accurate, I can only speak from my own experiences!! We had four incidents that happened in our area just recently, one that effected me directly, and the copper asked if we wanted to report and made a comment on how it wasn't neccessary as there ws not much that could be done and would only tantmount to paperwork!! Also, an auntie of mine on the way home from work was robbed for the 4th time in 4 years on the same route, on the last occassion she couldn't be bothered to report it as she said 'what are they gonna do about it??'!! Like I said, I can only speak from what has effected me, and all I hear about how disaluitioned people are with the polices ability to tackle crime!! Still, the best Police service in the world mind you!!!
Zingari Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 criminals have hacked into the home office computer and changed all the statistics
purpleronnie Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 criminals have hacked into the home office computer and changed all the statistics # It wouldnt suprise me if The Sun report that.
Guest Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 criminals do not fear prison Prison is about rehabilitation, not punishment. That's what some believe. Well I would start by stop using taxpayers money to pay for prisons. There was a time when prisoners either paid for the "privilege", and if they couldn't afford it, then they had to work to pay for their incarceration. As well as diverting funds to more worthy causes, this could be used to give offenders the necessary skills and experience to help them on the outside. I saw a chain gang again this year when we were in Florida. I still pointed and spent the next few minutes telling Sir Fynwy that they should have chain gangs in the UK!!
Simi Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 criminals have hacked into the home office computer and changed all the statistics We've probably just gone and lost them again.
Samilktray Posted 17 July 2008 Posted 17 July 2008 Nike pulls new Air Stab trainers off the shelf in wake of knife attacks Nike has withdrawn a range of trainers called Air Stab after the spate of fatal knife attacks. The sport shoe giant re-released the limited-edition 'retro' range from 1988 two years ago, with the logo Runnin'n'Gunnin on the inner linings and heel. But after reaction from consumers and campaigners against gun and knife crime, the £90 trainers will be taken off the shelves. The company pulled the range from its Nike Town store in central London, the one shop which sold the shoe, but were still selling them yesterday. The move comes days after security guards at the store in Regent Street were attacked with knives when they chased shoplifters and suffered leg and back stab wounds. The running shoe, whose name is derived from 'stability', was first released in 1988 and the current limited edition 'retro' range was launched two years ago. Nike said the Air Stab 'may be an unfortunate coincidence timing-wise' but rejected any suggestion that the company condoned the use of knives. A spokesman said: 'The shoe was first launched in 1988 as a stability running shoe, hence the name Air Stab. It has nothing to do with knives or knife crime. 'While it may be an unfortunate coincidence timing-wise given current problems regarding knives, we completely reject the idea that we are in any way condoning or encouraging the issue of knife usage.' The spokesman added that the company released thousands of shoes onto the market every year and that it would be impossible to predict the names of shoes based around what was happening in the news. 'Given the current climate, however, we have taken the step of withdrawing the shoe from our Nike Town store,' he added. Crimestoppers, the crime fighting charity, said it was 'astonished that a major retailer such as Nike could be this naive and act so irresponsibly with its marketing.
