Matt Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 League One: Foxes chairman seeks instant promotionMilan Mandaric says he doesn't want to put pressure on new boss Nigel Pearson - but he expects an immediate return to the Championship for Leicester City. The Foxes were relegated last season and must start life alongside Northampton Town in League One. Chairman Mandaric said he is targeting an instant return to the Championship next season and, ultimately, a place in the Premier League. He said: "I don't want to put extra pressure on us but we need to take this club back to the Championship and then, hopefully, the Premier League. That is still the plan. "It might take longer than three years but that is my hope. Relegation, unfortunately, was not part of the plan."
SamL Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 I'm pretty sure he said something along the same lines last season and look what happened there. I hope pressure doesn't affect our young squad, hopefully they'll thrive on it.
He's not bald Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 O Dear, how long will Nigel get then,my best guess is half time against the franchise!
Jonezy Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Lets misunderstand the lunatic chairman properly shall we.... He wants to show ambition, and we all want to get back to the Championship as quick as possible don't we..? So we are all mad??? We don't need the pressure, but we need the ambition.

Stevosevic Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Promotion has to be expected this season, but back to back? Highly unlikely.
Guest ttfn Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Is this the same madman who was also calling for patience from the fans earlier this week. What a tool.
Phlashman Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Being one of the best teams ever to get religated to league one promotion must be expected. And then the following season I don't see why we couldn't do well. Look at Bristol City, and given if we do get promoted we should still have Nigel and a team that has a winning mentality and stability, something we haven't really had since admin. I don't see why we wouldn't do better than last season. But all that said, I think we should just take it one step at a time, first lets get off to a good start, then establish fortress walkers.
Super Arj Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 hey, bristol almost did a abck to back promtion this year the only reason they didnt was because their players were just standard, ordinary players with ambition and flair who says we cant do it... man city have, wigan have... the list goes on.....

Can someone show me exactly where in his comments MM said he wanted an 'instant promotion'?
Zingari Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 Can someone show me exactly where in his comments MM said he wanted an 'instant promotion'? quote Milan Mandaric says he doesn't want to put pressure on new boss Nigel Pearson - but he expects an immediate return to the Championship for Leicester City quite unambiguous edit sorry i see what you mean
smokey Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 I think Nigel Pearson will do ok, i am starting to warm to him now!! Problem is, if we are not in the top six by oct/nov then he will be gone and someone else in by christmas!! But i am actually very confident we will be up there in the top six all season!!
demon_dog Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 MM is just like the rest of us then. We would all like to see us get instant promotion. Not sure about getting back into the Premiership so quickly though. Let's just take one season at a time shall we.
Daggers Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 I bloody hate negativity. Stupid Mandaric; back to back promotions? Why the hell isn't he stating the only acceptable aim of qualification to the European Cup in three seasons? Doesn't he think we can do it? Doesn't he appreciate what a massive club we are with such a glorious heritage. It's setting low standards like just aiming for back2back promotions that have been the blight of this club.

I would feel disappointed if we finished 2nd this coming season
Daggers Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 I would feel disappointed if we finished 2nd this coming season Feeling disappointed because you didn't come first is something my wife knows too well - I'll get her to write out some tips on how to handle it for you

When exactly did Wigan do it?
The Stig Posted 6 July 2008 Posted 6 July 2008 If he doesn't get into the play off's he will be fired. He may be fired if we were to lose in them.
Orkneyfox Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 The bookies have us as second favourites at 5/1 to do what MM is looking for. (Leeds are first at 11/2). I've got my fiver on us going up as champions. I'll lose less than I did betting on each game for LCFC to win all season 2 years ago!

Orkneyfox Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 That might explain why I've never made my fortune betting.
