davieG Posted 10 July 2008 Author Posted 10 July 2008 As all six died, and presuming the front two at least had seat belts on I doubt very much whether the wearing of them made much difference.
fox123 Posted 10 July 2008 Posted 10 July 2008 As all six died, and presuming the front two at least had seat belts on I doubt very much whether the wearing of them made much difference. I have just seen the car on BBC News, it look's terrible and would say that it wouldn't of made much diference
Simi Posted 10 July 2008 Posted 10 July 2008 I can only see it with the cover on, on the website that is. Looks completely molded into the lorry though, horrible stuff.
AmericanScott Posted 10 July 2008 Posted 10 July 2008 Well according to my girlfriend's sister, one of the 19 year olds might be someone i know. But it's just a rumour at the moment. Quite worried. My condolences go out to their loved ones.
stripeyfox Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Victims now identified "The driver of the Mondeo, Richard Bolton, 23, of Beaumont Leys, died along with Christopher Worrad, 18, and Emily Rose Curnock, 18, of Enderby. Luke Whittle, 19, of Enderby and Carly Ann Arrindell, 18, of Glen Parva, also died in the crash. A front seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, has not yet been formally identified. " Makes it even more shocking when you see names and ages. Drove past the scene on my way to work this morning and although there is no real evidence of the carnage, it still chills you to think of how unimaginably horrific the scene must have been. I don't know any of the victims but I'm sure that some of you will. I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families and friends of all those involved. We should all remember that a life can be ended in the blink of an eye, especially on the roads. Makes you think about your own family and friends and how you would feel if you lost one of them.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 it still chills you to think of how unimaginably horrific the scene must have been. My mate's dad used to be a traffic copper, and some of the stuff he saw is awful beyond comprehension. In fact, it sent him a bit funny and he had to have quite a lot of time off at one point. Imagine being a member of the emergency services attending that accident. What a nightmare. It's something we tend to forget when we're being given a ticket by the boys in blue
MikeyT Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Awful but you couldn't be surprised by anything that happens on the roads approaching Melton. They're not suitable for stage coaches never mind modern cars. It often takes as long to get to the far side of Melton from West Leicestershire as it does to get to the outskirts of London. What with buses, heavy lorries and farm machinery, the roads in and out are one long bind and totally inadequate. Thats very true i can vouch for that. Many a time ive been stuck behind some kind of vehicle there, and im not one for overtaking things either!
SuperSwede Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Read about it in the papers here in Sweden a few days ago, tragic indeed.
AmericanScott Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 RIP Lukey boy and Emily Just browsing through the videos on my phone of Luke. -_-
AoWW Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Right now I'm tempted to delete a fair proportion of the posts in here so the thread reverts back to what it should be. If you must have this debate, at least have the courtesy to take it elsewhere. And, no, I don't give a fuck who I piss off by saying that. Edit: ooh, someone beat me to it.
Flynny Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 What's this, a Swan Lestas collective reply? Not the time or the place, Thrac. Not here.

Perhaps you'll explain what is discourteous about wanting a notoriously dangerous road improved BEFORE more kids are killed instead of after. Cos as far as I can see the subject is "six young people dying in a car crash at Melton" and the response that happening evokes. I didn't know any of them but it hardly needs saying that the whole episode was a tragic waste of life and one that could doubtless have been prevented. In fact you can be sure the authorities will focus hard on making improvements now. When the damage has been done.

Personally, I feel that to be having this debate the day after the accident is insensitive. No doubt you disagree.
C-man Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Unbelievable. EDIT: Sorry, for some reason I remember this aas the driver of the lorry falling asleep. Maybe I was wrong.

lou Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 Knowing one of the victims, I just hope the families can find some peace now the inquest is over.... whatever the verdict it wont bring their loved ones back. Im sure if there was enough evidence to charge the lorry driver then they would have done. Im sure also hes suffered enough (if he was responsible) by knowing hes killed 6 people. RIP
Guest Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 It had nothing to do with the lorry driver. BBC East Midlands News have just reported that the driver of the car had been smoking cannabis in the hours leading up to the accident. Such a tragic waste of life.

Katy Posted 23 April 2009 Posted 23 April 2009 I drive past the crash site every time I come to and from Leicester and it still makes me shudder. There's a massive picture in a frame by the roadside and a plaque, the poor lorry driver works/worked for the factory opposite my village. Terrible loss of life.
