Hackneyisblue Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Read into this what you will. Walsh says: "We have got five signings that we are very happy with. They have settled in and trained well. "Gilbert has good pace, good strength and likes to get forward. "Tunchev is the ace in the pack. He is a proven international and is only 26. Hopefully, he is the type of player to take us to the next level and maybe beyond. "Morrison is 20 with good experience. He is very fit - a big lad. He has played for Cambridge since he was 17 and he is looking to the next level. "Adams I have been monitoring for a long time. I know him from his Bury days and had some favourable reports on him. He has two feet, a decent engine and scored 13 goals from midfield last year. "Dyer has great pace and loves getting behind people. He scores goals as well. "We are hoping two wide players will contribute goals as well, which was a problem last season. "We hope DJ (Campbell), (Matty) Fryatt and Steve Howard will chip in with a good percentage. They have good records at this level, but you need to close the back door."
Lester LXXIV Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 I agree, these guys WILL score at this level, I have no doubt of that. I was more concerned with the midfield & wide positions. Oh, and the centre back positions with McAuley gone and Kisnorbo injured.
MikeyT Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 I'm overall pretty happy with the signings so far, all of them are young and seem like they want fresh challenges and you would hope want to prove themselves from the off. The future's bright, the futures blue!!! Cant wait for the new season!
Tilley Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Fryatt, Campbell, Howard, Hayles. You can see the League One defences being really afraid. Worries me if we dont bring anyone in.

One of the young lads will come through hopefully, maybe miln won't sanction buying a striker unless another one leaves. All of those players have scored goals at the level we are at, I would personally like a striker with power and pace added.

I would like to see Hayles & maybe even Howard go. But Hayles has to go, I know everyone is on a some sort of Barry Hayles bandwagon, but he has to go, he really is awful, simple as.

Like a gereatric Akinbiyi with no pace...... I'd back him in a punch up though.
davieG Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Fryatt,Campbell, Howard, Hayles. You can see the League One defences being really afraid. Worries me if we dont bring anyone in. In their favour they are all completely different in style and should therefore offer Pearson a decent number of options based on who's in form and who we are playing as well as giving, via substitutions a chance to change a game we're getting nothing out of. This pre-supposes that Pearson can get 100% more out of them than any of our previous managers.

Samilktray Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 I don't see what Samilktray see's 'wrong' about it... I think we should keep him as he could be used for the last 10 or 20 minutes of a match too cause tiring defenses problems. Also he could be a useful influence on the youngsters.
Bryn Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 I think we've got a capable squad of players now. Yes, our strikers have let us down in the past but to be fair they weren't exactly in a side which was geared towards them scoring and they're all fairly proven in the past. I would prefer that we brought one striker in but if there's noone worthwile out there then we may as well just save the cash. Howard, Campbell and Fryatt are each different so we will have a different approach from each one. If we can get them scoring, and I personally have faith that Pearson can with the right service, then I think we'll do ok.
CupidStunt Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Dont think we will or attract any better strikers than we have already got, quite happy with the bunch we have currently, albiet one more will suffice Going to put a 20 on us coming second in the league, behind leeds who i think wil finish top,and mk dons third.

Swansea will do pretty well to finish third in League One from their current position in the Championship.

I think that's what its pretty much all about really. The strikers we have could potentially score goals, but after what we saw last season they couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. I'm not particularly happy with the ones we've got, and I do think we need to get Hayles out personally. Out of all our strikers he's the worst unfortunately. Battles well, works hard but he just doesn't have it anymore I'm sorry to say.

smokey Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Fryatt,Campbell, Howard, Hayles. You can see the League One defences being really afraid. Worries me if we dont bring anyone in. Why does it??? Your just looking at last season where everone was bad! The mess with all the mangers/players in out didnt help. I know everyone moans about the 4 above and hayles i sort of agree, but lets be honest Howard,Cambell and Fryatt should do great in this division plus we have 2 or 3 young lads that might break through. Yes we have no proof they will do well but unless we can buy well i would be more than happy if against MK Dons my front 2 was from the above players.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 I'd have thought that one of the young boys would be ready to step up. Sappleton, Chambers, McKay. One of those will be a regular presence in the matchday 16 if no one is bought in.
Finn Claw Posted 11 July 2008 Posted 11 July 2008 Get any of Howard, Fryatt and DJ playing near their best and we have 3 great strikers. Last season was dross but with a bit more time and (hopefully) better serivce from midfield hopefully we can score goals. If we play with wingers who actually go down the line and try and cross a ball then Howard could be very useful. Pearsons signings so far appear to be sensible - no idea if any are good mind.
