Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 But do we want a defender that can play 'alright' at both left and right, I'd prefer a specialist in both positions. From all accounts Logan is not good, so if they both need games it must mean that Henderson is not rated that higher than Logan. I'm worried, we don't seem to be sure about either the goalie or the two full-backs, and everyone seems in total agreement about the strikers. We have played three poor sides so far and we haven't excelled in any game. Pearson is still working out his best side, which I think is fair enough personally. I don't think any of us know either. I don't think he'll know an awful lot about Logan but has probably seen Henderson a number of times before coming here. It's easy to say who isn't good enough but players like Henderson, Gilbert, Chambers, Mattock if he stays, Howard, Campbell and Fryatt should be good enough for League One - it's just a case of working out how to get them functioning as a team with attacking purpose and defensive organisation rather than just plonking individual players into an XI and hoping for the best which is what we've seemingly done for the past five or six years. Like you, I'm not overly convinced by areas of the squad at the moment but then I was really pleased when we signed Clemence and Oakley which taught me not to judge properly until I see the team play a few league games to see whether it all works etc - there's no telling how we'll do until a few games into the season.
MC Prussian Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 Why are we still talking about getting new strikers in when the old ones are still hanging around? Howard - sell. He's not happy playing for us in League One, out of form, miserable. Campbell - should stay, but has to prove he can do the job. If he can't live up to his past performances at his previous club(s), should be sent out on loan or sold later on. Fryatt - same case as Campbell, only worse. Hayles - past his best. Sell. The Sapple - any good? Odhiambo - unproven. Gamble. Chambers - unproven. Gamble. Sell one or two, then bring in another one for sure as well as a loanee.

If we we sell howard and Hayles, we need a big stong guy up there. But hopefully a mobile one not just a cart horse.

Fought off premership teams to sign him? He's what, 19? did we? We really are piss poor at giving these kids a chance, let him have a crack Nigel.

billyfox1 Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Maybe more additions to the squad before tomorrows match (according to the mockery) http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?k...572008298735331
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Strikers? I know I give Campbell and Howard stick but League One, Surely they should score goals? Will we get anyone better?
Ric Flair Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Strikers? I know I give Campbell and Howard stick but League One, Surely they should score goals? Will we get anyone better? You'd like to think they could demolish this league, but we've witnessed some of their gilt edged chances they've missed and if their attitude isn't right then they'll continue to miss sitters like that.
Jonezy Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 It doesn't makes sense to bring in more strikers before we have offloaded some of the current ones. And nobody apparently wants any of our current ones, so we might as well get used to the thought, that this season's Leicester City strikers will be the same misfiring ones we saw last season. And if we managed to offload one, wouldn't it be nicer to see A. Chambers and the Sapplezilla get a chance instead of bringing someone in.

Well, based on the 45/90 minutes of pre-season they've played
SussexFox Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 wouldn't it be nicer to see A. Chambers and the Sapplezilla get a chance instead of bringing someone in. No i'd rather get promoted
Houdini Logic Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 No i'd rather get promoted Yeah good point. Let's bring in someone with experience, that worked so well last season with Howard and Campbell and Hayles and Cort and Collins John and Cademateri...
Thracian Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Unless either or both are transferred I have no doubts that Howard and Campbell will start as our main strikers. They are senior players, they have cost the most money, doubtless get paid more than most and they'll get first crack, you can bet on it. What Sappleton has done is put himself in the picture. Pearson has already shown he quite rates Ashley Chambers and it is up to him to make the most of that support. The target for Sapp and Chambers is to continue making sufficient impression to get on the bench alongside or even ahead of Fryatt and Hayles. And, even allowing for any politics, I cannot see that either merit more than that just yet.

Tony Cottee did well for us didn't he? Brighton had Forster up front last season he banged in the goals, i reckon someone like Maynard or Le Fondre would do better than sappleton/chambers

If Pearson can't see that Howard and DJ are crap then he's no better than Holloway (and half the people on this forum). If he has any balls then he'll choose common sense over politics

How does Le Fondre have a proven track record in the 3rd tier? I'm not saying playing Chambers and Sappleton as starters all the time. I just want them in and around the team. I don't think we will be able to sell all of DJ, Howard, Hayles and Fryatt, so those left of those will still be first choice. Le Fondre would be a gamble, and we might as well use that gamble on Chambers and Sappleton. Maynard has proven himself last year, but can we get him and is he really better than for example Fryatt or DJ?
SussexFox Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Judging by Pre-Season - 100% 1) pre-season means very little 2) the guy scored against Quorn, thats Quorn from the unibond league they are sh1te

Don't get me wrong i hope these young players do come on but id rather sign a gd striker like a Maynard (not neccessarily him) than gamble on youngsters, all i care about is getting out of this league ASAP
Houdini Logic Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 1) pre-season means very little2) the guy scored against Quorn, thats Quorn from the unibond league they are sh1te 1) How can pre-season mean very little to a manager that wasn't here last season?! Pre-season is critical. 2) As opposed to Howard and Campbell who were on fire at Hinkley? I'm taking a stab in the dark and saying you weren't there last night, because if you were you would know what i mean. The runs Sappleton was making, his control and creativity (and end product) is something i didn't see all last season.

Let's meet in the middle
