Fox You Forest Posted 13 July 2008 Posted 13 July 2008 We really need a breakthrough here, South Africa have got a pretty decent batting line up who will get runs under pressure. They're still 228 runs behind though. What like the first innings you mean. They just need one and i think a few will come.
SamL Posted 13 July 2008 Posted 13 July 2008 What like the first innings you mean. They just need one and i think a few will come. Good point. I just think that South Africa have one of the most resilient batting line ups around. Considering the position that we're in, I think this is where we miss Flintoff. He's the sort of bloke who'll make something happen out of nothing and I think we're lacking that in our side at the moment.
SamL Posted 13 July 2008 Posted 13 July 2008 Finally, a wicket. Smith is out - Bowled Anderson, caught Pietersen.
Milky Posted 13 July 2008 Posted 13 July 2008 England couldn't have bowled much better than they did today. Good batting and lifeless conditions. We need a bit of cloud tomorrow.
Sparky Posted 13 July 2008 Posted 13 July 2008 Well battled South Africa in fairness . Mckenzie and Smith were as determined as they come . As for the wicket keeper debate id be tempted to give James Foster of Essex a try . If insucsessful then id go back to Prior

If insucsessful then id go back to Prior I think its got to be Reid. He is by far the best keeper, and he will come good. I think Vaughan is slightly more classical than Bell, although its a tough call. When Vaughan plays his cover drive I actually cream my pants!
The People's Hero Posted 14 July 2008 Author Posted 14 July 2008 I'm not reading through all this lot but did somebody back there seriously suggest that Geraint Jones get a recall? Abysmal keeper.
The People's Hero Posted 14 July 2008 Author Posted 14 July 2008 Just to put a further tuppence in, reading the ball by ball updates - Panesaar to McKenzie is just silly. He's not bowling at the stumps and McKenzie will just pad away when possible. He needs to loop it up a bit more and bowl at the bloody stumps, stick a few close fielders in. You never know.
Ultra Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 South Africa held out for the draw But at least Flintoff will be back for the next Test, probably at Collingwood's expense. And although he's been named in the squad, Sidebottom won't be fit, so that may mean a recall for Hoggard or Simon Jones. Still much to play for in this series..

He's a demon when firing on all cylinders.
Father Ted Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Simon Jones please. He's a demon when firing on all cylinders. He's made a decent comeback aswell.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Alistair Cooks over was pretty comical That it was. About as funny as watching Nasar Hussain over in South Africa many years ago. Surprised Vaughany didnt bowl to be honest, will never forget his bowl that got rid of Tendulkar.
Father Ted Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Alistair Cook bowled Spin? England must have been desperate!
Sparky Posted 15 July 2008 Posted 15 July 2008 Alistair Cook bowled Spin? England must have been desperate! Last over of the day , turned in to a farce so Vaughan through the ball to Cook . Amra couldnt even be arsed to play it

Surprised Vaughany didnt bowl to be honest, will never forget his bowl that got rid of Tendulkar. His spin was good stuff, tidy and controlled, for a part-time bowler, anyway. Better than Pietersen's. I assume he's stopped it because of his knee.

I assume he's stopped it because of his knee. Suppose you are right with the reason he has stopped bowling. Pretty much the same to be honest Vaughan and KP at bowling both off-spin and both hardly get wickets. But thats obviously not there role in the team. When will the team for Friday's test be announced?

I hope they drop Collingwood and not Sidebottom, or, god forbid, Broad.

The actual 11 won't be announced until the morning, only the 12 is given in advance.I hope they drop Collingwood and not Sidebottom, or, god forbid, Broad. They surely cant drop Sidebottom? Leading wicket taker in the side this year. Collingwood has to go but as soon as he has has a rest then I can see him coming straight back in and replacing Bell or Vaughan. Then Collingwood or Freddie for captaincy. I just hope if Freddie comes in for the next test that he doesnt have to bat in a bad period time where runs are desperately needed. Could anyone see KP getting the Test captaincy anytime in the near future?
The People's Hero Posted 16 July 2008 Author Posted 16 July 2008 Vaughan was a much under-rated bowler. I'd say it's almost certain that he no longer bowls due to his knee.
