RowlattsFox Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 It's too late to try and make Collingwood into a keeper, he's 32 I think.
RowlattsFox Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 Watching Marcus Trescothick play for Somerset at the moment on Sky, such a class act. Such a shame that he can't play for England anymore, Cook could learn a lot from him.
Sparky Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 Jones for Anderson, Broad or SidebottomVaughan for Collingwood although either could be dropped for someone like Denly / Shah or even Key... Foster as keeper. Prior and Ambrose are ok but are just flat track bullies. Once it nips around a bit and they have to get their heads down they come unstuck. Foster has been doing brilliantly for Essex in the past 2 years and deserves another chance - could do the job for 10 years!! Would be my choice also
Sods Posted 23 July 2008 Posted 23 July 2008 It just goes to show how poor our english keepers are at the moment, in terms of batting. Foster, Prior, Read and even Jones. Compared to the likes of McCullum, Dohni, Boucher, Sangakarra ares look poor.

I wonder what his "Stress related illness" is, A fairly new fear of flying? because he doesn't seem to want to go on tour.
SamL Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 I wonder what his "Stress related illness" is, A fairly new fear of flying? because he doesn't seem to want to go on tour. I think I read somewhere that he didn't like being away from his family for long periods, I'm not positive though.
Fox You Forest Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 I think I read somewhere that he didn't like being away from his family for long periods, I'm not positive though. Yeah ive seen that too but i dont believe it.
The People's Hero Posted 25 July 2008 Author Posted 25 July 2008 I kept fantastically last week. 3 catches and a stumping that wasn't given (but was clearly out). OLE!
David O'Leary Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 I think I read somewhere that he didn't like being away from his family for long periods, I'm not positive though. That's right. He hates touring without his wife and young(ish) daughter. Why are people forgetting about Read? People said he was too quiet in the field, even though he now captains title-chasing Notts. In the past 5 seasons of Championship cricket he has an average of 49 and is by far and away the safest and best actual 'keeper in England.
The People's Hero Posted 25 July 2008 Author Posted 25 July 2008 What airline did she use?Wahey... Same as Stephen Clemence - Receding 'Airline. Wahey!
Flynny Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Not airline fracture then? Wa- wait no thats just terrible.
David O'Leary Posted 25 July 2008 Posted 25 July 2008 Fantastic news from the SA camp... BBC Cricket South Africa have been rocked by the news that leading fast bowler Dale Steyn will miss the third Test against England with a broken thumb. Steyn, 24, suffered the blow on Monday during the second Test at Headingley, which South Africa won by 10 wickets. Cricket South Africa media officer Michael Owen-Smith told BBC Sport: "Dale is definitely out of the third Test but has a chance for the fourth." The third Test in the four-match series starts at Edgbaston on 30 July. Steyn had an X-ray on Thursday and is due to have the injury put in a plaster cast to help it heal. "He has definitely got a chance of making the Oval Test on 7 August, we will just have to wait and see." Andre Nel is likely to to replace Steyn for Wednesday's match in Birmingham. Coach Micky Arthur said: "Missing a player of Dale's calibre is a huge blow, but I feel we have such good depth with the likes of Andre and Monde [Zondeki]. "Nel is probably next in the queue. That was why I was strong on wanting good reserve strength with experienced players who know about the intensity of Test cricket." South Africa began a three-day match against Bangladesh A on Friday, reaching 397-3 at Worcester, with reserve opening batsman Jean-Paul Duminy hitting 166. The 24-year-old Duminy hit one six and 12 fours off 234 balls and shared a 155-run opening stand with skipper Graeme Smith who made 87. Duminy then added a further 137 with Hashim Amla and put on 68 with Jacques Kallis, who was undefeated at the close on 52.
SamL Posted 26 July 2008 Posted 26 July 2008 Harmison, Sidebottom and Collingwood have been bought into the 3rd Test Squad, replacing Tremlett and Pattinson. No surprise that Pattinson has been left out. I would've preferred to have given Simon Jones a go over Harmison though.

SamL Posted 26 July 2008 Posted 26 July 2008 I still feel Hoggard has been harshly treated. I've always liked Hoggard, but only in certain conditions. If the ball isn't swinging, he'll get battered.
