Louis Dodds, hes practicaly out the door already

It doesn't much matter how good or bad he is. It is quite clear that he's intent on leaving and becoming, with Stearman and Sheehan, the third of our better Academy graduates to depart in recent months.

I'd guess that three more will be gone before the year's out, possibly four.

He really isn't that good. We have Sappleton, Chambers etc as the 'younger strikers', we don't need Dodds really.

It's easy to say that but Dodds, a striker, scored nine goals from midfield last season just one division below the level we're playing now.

No midfielder at City has been anywhere near that productive since Joey Gudjonsson and Dodds is a much more dangerous all-round marksman than him, or Fryatt for that matter.

How Dodds would get on as a first team striker I don't know but presumably he'd get far more chances than he got from midfield and especially with the sort of supply that seems likely this season. Iain Hume, our top scorer last season, only scored 10 and the next best scored six.

I was confident enough to bet Dodds would score more goals than Fryatt last season and collected my winnings early on that one (9-3 was really no contest) even though Dodds deployment in midfield came as a surprise.

Whether we "need Dodds" depends on the achievements of the strikers we do use and doesn't really matter because, clearly, he's not convinced the club won't continue "going for experience" and doesn't see too much fun in the prospect of sitting on a bench at best.

Dismiss him all you like but I reckon whoever gets him is pretty much guaranteed goals.

I don't want to be especially dismissive of Sappleton. He's still very young despite his size and still learning. But at League level right now I'd be extremely surprised if Sapp was in the same class as Dodds over 90 minutes.

Chambers is an altogether different player. Very quick, clever, always asks awkward questions and a chap who can really take people on - and finish.

Whether he'll ever be a genuine front line striker I don't know. More in the hole behind I'd imagine. Mainly needs consistency and to show that he has the phyusical strength to cope with the rigours of constant League football.

I cant see the point in just letting him go when he has as much potential to score goals as any striker in our team, If he does stay and plays but he dosent do very well then okay, let him go, and Il hold my hands up and say that I was wrong. Atleast try him out on a team thats not going to threaten us as much (I.e. The Leeds' of the league) everyone in the camp deserves a go, could be the next Heskey or go a bit pearshaped and be the next Akinbiyi.

I'm sorry but he's clearly not good enough. Manager after manager has all but said this with their actions towards him.

If he wants a chance of making it he needs to go down to league 2 and work hi socks off. If he was as good as some people seem to think he'd have been playing.

Kelly didn't think that and I'm quite sure the small queue of clubs who seem to want him don't think that. He was injured for Allen's pre-season and wasn't even at the club when Megson and Holloway were here.

To League 2.

If that really, really was the case, then the past 3 managers would've at least included him in a matchday squad.

Oh. and Hume scored 11.

He's not going to make it at City whether we want him to or not, he may have done well but won't be given the chance.

If he's really that good then I can't understand why the main competition for someone so 'highly sought after' is Rochdale, Lincoln and Port Vale - enough said.

Let's just move on and build up Chambers, McKay, Odhiambo and Kee as the next big things and hope they don't fail.

Lets just draw a line under it and be done. It's getting fcuking boring.

Louis returned to training with the rest of the lads at the start of the month so the gaffer could have a look at him. Louis was basically hoping to impress him and earn a contract/contract extentions. He's no short of offers but he's a local lad and who wouldn't want to play for there local team if the chance arrives.....even if he does support Sheff Wed!!

I personally think he's good enough to compete at Div 1 level, he'll you score goals and in my eyes, that's the primary objective of a forward!!

Having somewhat of a personal interest in Louis having grown up with him etc and knowing full well that he wants to play for Lincoln im not surprised by this at all. I've said all along that he's deserved a chance in the first team and almost certainly would have had it not been for the berth of talent he's been competing with in his position around his age range coupled with the ridiculous amount of managers hes played under.

Im sure he knows as well as the rest of us that unfortunately he won't get the chances here and needs to move to a club like Rochdale or Lincoln that he's familiar with, played at before and will play regularly enough to move through the leagues as i believe he deserves too.

All the best of luck too him and i will still keep a stalker like eye on his progress and keep looking out for 7/8/9 ratings in the News Of The World every Sunday morning.

Lincoln made a contract offer. And Lincoln fans absolutely adore him.
