Thracian Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 um, thrac, i think by long distance he meant that the couple are seperated by a long distance, not that they have travelled a long distance in a relationship. seriously though, personally, i don't see the point, when the missus was in norway and i was stuck in england for a few months, it was awful, the whole point of a relationship is intimacy, companionship and sharing experiences - it was awful when i'd want to show her something (careful...) or tell her something and she wasn't there, for example,... but, it seems quite common over here i know a few couples who live quite distant, and get on ok - kinda seems like being single and chaste, i guess you have fewer arguments.... They are thousands of miles apart for 8 months of the year. This just happens to be one of the 13-week periods they get together. She lives in Albuquerque, he in Leicestershire. They meet up in the summer and over Christmas plus whenever else when circumstances - and money - allows. The point is that despite being so far apart they have survived four years together and managed to enjoy a terrific time. Whether they remain together only time will tell.

Had a long distance relationship for 3 years because of us both going away to uni, in the end we grew apart. Thats not to say it won't work for you though, I know a lot of people wouldn't have managed 3 years. If you both want it to work, it will. Just bear in mind its a shit load more fragile as a relationship than if you're regularly seeing each other. Although it does make things better when you do see each other
