Me neither! :dunno: Can we bully her into spilling the beans?

No. There are some things a lady does not like to discuss in public. And I'm not having anything bullied out of me in retaliation! lol

Let's clear this up...it was blatently Levi Porter wasn't it?

Did he try chatting you up with fried chicken hanging from his mouth, outside TJ's... clutching a bottle of WKD?

Why?

There was a programme on a while back where loads of young women went out and specifically targeted footballers, hoping to bag one. You go out into town on a Saturday night, and if you happen to see any of the City squad out, there's a load of wannabe WAGs hanging about on the off-chance.

As you can probably guess, I just don't get it.

Some of you might think that this post is the mumblings of some jealous cow. Yes, I am harsh on myself and I can put myself down better than anyone else, but believe it or not, I have turned footballers down. The egos I can cope with, but the fact that I knew that one of the players who tried it on with me was engaged at the time was enough to put me off. That and the fact I didn't actually fancy the bloke! Yet even after the public humiliation of having their partner's infidelity broadcast to the world, the likes of Colleen and Cheryl would rather forgive than walk away and retain some dignity.

What is it about a footballer that makes them so irresistible? In many cases, it isn't their good looks! The only benefit I can see is the glamorous lifestyle, but if you are going to sleep with someone to keep you in Gucci handbags and Jimmy Choos, isn't that tantamount to prostitution?

I have been bored today, can you tell? lol

But then you're never going to need anyone to keep you in Gucci handbags while some women may well have taken the line that, chances are, their bloke will stray at some time anyway and they might as well take the hurt with someone that's giving them a high life as someone who offers them a life of drudgery.

Who says Colleen has not retained some dignity? Seems to me she's got on with her life and carved out an identity of her own that would perhaps never have been the case had she met and married someone unheard of. I'm sure she was hurt and embarrassed by Rooney's indiscretions but it was he who lost his dignity and self respect at the time, not Colleen.

And perhaps some people don't put the same emphasis on fidelity as you do. Surely it's each to their own views of what matters most.

In the end some girls - and blokes for that matter - might accept that people aren't perfect (in all sorts of ways) and that, given that they've no guarantee about their next relationship, they'd actually rather hold on to what they've got than throw it away.

Infidelity doesn't necessarily reflect on a partner anyway and can come about for any number of reasons. Soldiers, sailors, people who travel far from home as part of their jobs often quietly acknowledge that their partner's might not be strictly faithful all their life. Illness and incapacity can be another factor so who's to judge and makes rules.?

It's a complex subject.

I've been married for over 40 years and have no idea if my wife's been unfaithful and wouldn't dream of asking. But work has taken me abroad for months on occasions while both my partner and I were very young and randy so I'd never be assumptious and to be honest, though I wouldn't want to know, I couldn't give a damn.

I'm privileged to have met and known my wife. Everyone fancied her when we were young and I couldn't blame em. She's been a gem to me. An unfailing friend, a constant support, mum to my three terrific kids, a person who has encouraged me in everything I wanted to do whatever the sacrifices and someone who'd defend me against anyone else even if she thought I was wrong.

Do I give a twopenny damn if she's ever taken comfort with someone else? Not at all. I married her cos I loved her in my own inadequate way, not to impose conditions on her life.

As for what attracts women to footballers I'm sure the money and lifestyle play a part but it's their fitness too. I'm no pin-up as you well know but as a professional squash player I was super fit at one time and forever getting come-ons from all sorts of people, even though I was known to be perfectly happily married. My wife used to laugh and say it was my footballers legs cos it certainly wasn't my money or looks.

Perhaps it's ancient instinct. The fitter the guy the better the breeding potential. Yes I know it's often an illusion in many cases and for many reasons, but the instinct remains I'm sure and is demonstrated by the number of women who will chase fit, brave, powerful or exciting males even if they know them to be violent, inclined to excessive drink or even ex-cons. There's no logic in it but it happens.

Don't get me wrong. I well understand your own views and if they are right for you, all well and good.

But Colleen's capacity for forgiveness deserves credit too. In some ways it's harder to forgive and yet it may have been the making of their relationship for all anyone else knows.

For me I say congratulations to anyone who makes a relationship work. Cos whatever approach you take, it's never easy and there will always be things to challenge your ideals.
