Sorry, that bloody flag again

Just to clarify what happened today.

Myself and Alex went down to the ground for 10.30am today to meet Peter Jones and put the flag up in the North Stand. Originally the plan was to put it over the empty seats but when you stretch it across seats, it doesn't look great and you can't read the writing very well.

So we stuck it up above N Block. Took us about half an hour altogether to put it up (mostly Alex's work there!) and taped it to the seats etc. Everything ok'd with Peter Jones and the club, talking about taking some photos of it etc, doing a photoshoot with as many contributors as possible.

Hopefully a lot of you will have seen the bloody thing before it got taken down. Apparently the fans in N Block started taking it down to get to their seats (cos obviously the rest of the stand was packed out and they couldn't move a row or two...) so the stewards removed it to stop it getting ripped or damaged. Obviously I was pretty pissed off because a lot of people were expecting to see it and the effort the makers went to to get it delivered on time, but I am hoping it was just a slight misunderstanding which we can sort for next time.

The club are putting up hooks for it to be displayed properly at the top of the North Stand, more towards the middle. Hopefully everything will be fine by the next league game. Not sure what is happening on Tuesday, need to discuss with the club before then.

Also to add, C-Man's post in the flag thread about the stewards, I hadn't been told about the fans at the time I bumped into him when I was running around trying to get it sorted just before kickoff.

Fez, no need to be sorry wasnt your fault. We actually get something good and a minority of our fans dont like it.

Sounds like a cock up by Peter Jones and Co, fair enough they've been helpful but it shouldn't have been too difficult to see if the seats were taken and to then arrange to have a word with those affected as they entered the ground.

One day this club will manage to organise something that is actually successful from the off.

I disagree, I wasn't very happy at the time and it could have been done better but I'm equally at fault for that as we kind of forgot about it once we started moving the flag about. To start with we had made sure it wasn't affecting anyone with tickets for those seats but it looked better where we ended up moving it to.

Like I say, hopefully just a small teething problem. The flag was only delivered yesterday so there wasn't much time for the club to organise things their end.

It complicated matters that MK Dons brought a lot more than originally anticipated which meant we couldn't put it where we thought it was going to go at first.

Fingers crossed for next time.

I'd also just like to distance myself from any criticism of Peter Jones, he's been tremendously helpful throughout this and was as angry as me when the flag was taken down.

I bow to your better knowledge, But I look at how well you've done to get it this far and then at the eleventh hour when the club are involved....... it's just that things never seem to run smoothly when they are.

Maybe they're just jinxed.

I know what you mean. Just trying to stay positive about it as it should all be sorted properly for the next game.

The club are keen to feature the flag in the programme so we want to get as many contributors as possible to pose with it at some point. Possibly at the Tranmere home game in two weeks time although after today's events it might be better to wait until everything is properly sorted.

I'll put a date in my 2010 diary then :P

No you're right to stay positive, when you're not directly involved in these things, like me on this you tend to see the negatives more because the positives don't get an airing.

Looking forward to it making a full appearance.

Have you got anything nice to say about ANYONE over the age of 18.

You do know that you're old, don't you?

From what I've heard about it, first hand from those involved - and indeed in my own dealings with him, this criticism of Peter Jones is completely unwarranted and you should be ashamed of yourself, Tony.

have to say that he seemed to actually be a bit pissed off himself and he actually appeared to try and do something about it which i thought was good. it would have been much easier for him to sa" well theres nothing i can do about it" but he seemed to want it there as much as everyone else

I was up there talking to my mates and this bloke came up ranting and raving how it was over his seat, why cant he just sit a few rows down etc instead of being a party pooper,

What a f**king stupid thing to say. Sort yourself out.

I think the forum generally would like to distance itself from criticism of Peter Jones in the context of this flag. He's clearly been very supportive and I'm 100% confident that the issues from today won't happen again.

Anyone who criticises Peter Jones has obviously never met the bloke.

So what exactly is your criticism of him?

Well in this instance I think a better job of sussing out where the flag was going to go and the seats it was going to affect. Fez reckoned that the position was changed at the last minute but still I feel that someone, Peter maybe should have realised/known that these seats where taken.

It just struck me as a further indication of poor planning and a lack of anticipation of potential problems considering how important it was to the fans.

But as I mentioned earlier perhaps I'm being over critical looking in from out side.

I think he's a decent bloke but has some seriously strong rope around his wrists which limits him and obviously has considerably less influence than the the H&S guys and for what he needs to do his job successfully.

I think you are being harsh on him. But planning has never been one of City's strengths.

If you ask me, yesterday's problems were down to lack of communication. After all the hard work and effort Fez has gone to, surely the club could have done him a favour and publicised this to the wider community?? :dunno:

Peter Jones is a top bloke who always has a lot on his hands. Yes, yesterday was a bit of a disaster but it was down to fans wanting to sit in their correct seats that this happened.

It's a shame after all the planning that has gone into it, but hopefully it can get sorted before the next home league match.

Thus I apologise for being rather harsh on the stewards

TBH i saw the flag at 125 ish and it looked great, its just a shame those fans took it down tbh, why cant they just see its something good for the club!

When i get my phone back i'll get a few pre-match pics of it for ye' all (with no one around the stadium)

Its a shame your hard work earlier in the day was for nothing Fez :(

It strikes me that there are some on this forum that are a touch naive. Maybe it's an age thing...difficult to tell who is 12 and who is 13. Fans buy their tickets on the strenghth of seat availablity. You cannot blame them for moving the flag. Would those in L block move to somewhere else in the stadium if, without your permission, something was blocking your seat. If there was something drapped over my seat I would move it as well.

As for Peter Jones, well does he not look at seats sold before authorising where fans can and cannot put a flag. I seem to remember that he also backed the "singing section" a while ago. He encouraged, no, allowed, people to to move seats in order to "sing" at opposing supporters along with the chavs in L block and then encouraged the stewards to remove one of the main organisers who then had to serve a 3 match exclusion from the stadium for "persistant standing." Not something the stewards dare do to those in the L block. I suggest those who are organising this do it at away games or put the flag in the west stand up by the Fusion Restuarant. there never seems to be any fans up there.

Strikes me as though PJ is a bit of a tit.
