Fosse Boy Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 I agree it's a big rivalry, but the Manchester derby has historically been the biggest fixture in the city. My problem is that with increasing sky money, we're going to have rivalries that make no sense, because of something that's been said on the telly or somethin stupid like that. And most man u fans are already plastickers so a few more who know f**k all about their own club makes no difference. Jesus, I'm agreeing with you a bit too much for my own good! Please say something stupid and more WACCOE-ish to stop me from doing so.
Daggers Posted 10 June 2009 Author Posted 10 June 2009 we're going to have rivalries that make no sense, because of something that's been said on the telly or somethin stupid like that. Erm - and that was ever different because? No rivalry ever amounted to anything more than 'the team from my region is better than the team from your region'.
weluv Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 no, but i mean it'll go something like this West Brom fan watching them play hull on the box West Brom lose, and Phil Brown says something nasty after the game suddenly, West Brom & Hull are rivals. Or it'll be a case of 'whoever we're playing in our divison who's near, are our rivals'. This is something I've noticed off peterborough fans, who're going on about you being their big rivals-ignoring the fact you've got Coventry, Forest & Derby next year (who I'd assume you'd all count as being above posh). We have the same thing. Apparently we've had a massive rivalry with Blunts, Wendies, Cod-eaters etc. for years, which we haven't. We have two long-standing rivalries with Man U & Chelsea, we have a local Derby against Bradford (which has really grown out of the leeds-Bradford rugby rivalry) and an older, less intense rivalry with Huddersfield (which stems from when, in the early 20s, they tried to merge our teams). The more sky money we get in the more amrchair fans we'll have, the more we'll have kids from all over supporting the big four, and the more shit football will be.
The Doctor Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 So if Delph goes to Everton do we get a share of the fee, considering Kingy will go with him too? nope. everton will give compensation to Andy King to replace his pockets then find out that delph has shrunk in the wash.
leicesterseddon Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Erm - and that was ever different because? To them, the fact that everyone seems to laugh at them only shows how surprised they are to see them down there, the extent of their massive fall, and by extension the massive club they were and the big club (if in a very different way) they continue to be. They love to be hated, if you see what I mean, because it shows other clubs and other fans are still aware of them. By comparison, we are pretty anonymous. I think of all the fans that take the piss out of Leeds, a small part of them wishes their own club could attract the same sort of attention. Although, as some have said, there is now a generation of 'Big Four' fans growing up in the Sky Sports era with little or no awareness of Leeds, so how long it will last is a different question...

Protestants v Roman Catholics the one thing is why do the catholics have a football team when football is fun and catholics hate that

Not to mention our relegation season?
The Doctor Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 it's not that type of fun he was on about... the fun i was on about is being able to look at leeds and konw that theres always someone worse off than you ...

You've spoken a lot of sense so far for a Leeds fan in this thread, and I definitely agree about the TV fans and the big 4 rubbish, however, I have to point out the 'typical Leeds fan' nonsense where you have got way above your station. Firstly, our rivalry isn't "massive", but we are indeed Yorkshire rivals. Secondly, your rivalry with Man United isn't big and it definitely applies more to you than them. United don't care about you very much anymore and they didn't particularly care when you were in the top flight either. Especially compared to their main rival clubs City and Liverpool. Finally, the truth is coming from a one club city that you're not really that important to anyone nevermind the big sides you claim to be rivals with. I will admit you are a big club, and I'll happily say that your support is commendable, and that you should be higher up the leagues, but in reality your rivals next year are MK Dons, Millwall and Carlisle in that league. It has been 3 whole years, but I look forward to us beating you again at Hillsborough and Elland Road again sometime soon. At least we've both got a trip to St James' Park to look forward to next season... Sheffield Wednesday = Historically Yorkshire's most successful football club. Enjoy your football and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX0B38IgYK8
Shrenchel Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 Toi be fair I'd definitely rather go to Exeter's ground.
weluv Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 and how much have they won within your lifetime? precisely fook all, isn't it?
Daggers Posted 14 June 2009 Author Posted 14 June 2009 and how much have they won within your lifetime? precisely fook all, isn't it? Typical Lids fan, reducing a debate to one about colour
MC Prussian Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 and how much have they won within your lifetime? precisely fook all, isn't it? Still, we're more MASSIVE than Leeds.
weluv Posted 14 June 2009 Posted 14 June 2009 you are a load of fat barstewards, yes. I'll agree there's yorkshire pride at stake when we play you, but it's not really a rivalry, more just a 'who's the best team in yorkshire?' thing. Which at the moment is Hull, overtaking middlesbrough who've been the best since about 2003. And Manure don't care? That's why they sing 'we all hate leeds scum' at every game, voted us their third biggest rivals (after, as you say, Man City & Liverpool). IMO our rivals for promotion this year will be the 3 relegated clubs, Udders and Milwall. I also reckon Oldham, Brighton, Tranmere & Southend will be there or thereabouts round the end of the season.

Daggers Posted 16 June 2009 Author Posted 16 June 2009 why do Chelsea sing about you? Because they love Andy King's pockets
Tommeh Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 Ask genuine United fans who they hate the most, majority will say Leeds. Not arselicking, not being sarcastic, it's pretty much fact. The plastics and sky will big up the Liverpool stuff but the day those 2 meet again is what United want as much as Leeds. Don't think I can disagree with anything weluv has said in this topic to be honest.

Ashley Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 why do Chelsea sing about you? It's to do with the late 70s and early 80s. i'm sure its been posted on here before something like leicester took the shed end then chelsea tried/took our kop Others say its the sign on the M1 "The North & Leicester"

League fixtures, FA Cup (which went to a replay) and League Cup (over two legs). It became a bit of a joke, the Chelsea fans started singing about it and the song kind of stuck. That's what I heard anyway.
