DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Just got back home to Bristol from the game - what a gutter, extra time at least was deserved - but as always we do a Leicester! Anyway - ratings Martin - 7 - he looked sharp behind the back line, swept up well dealt with crosses well and his distribution was decent. Two goals at the far end i couldn't judge him on, but the first i felt he could have done a little better - but maybe i'm being harsh? Powell - 7 - didn't realise he was playing! Looked solid enough - didn't do anything of note Tunchev - 7 - postioning seemed good, and again solid. Would have liked him to have taken control and marked the slightly more dangerous looking Zamora who was troubling Morrison. Morrison - 6 - At fault for the first i felt. It wasn't the first time he'd gone to far forward for a header and missed the ball, and that caused Gilbert to come in, giving Gera the space. He's still learning, and this was a big test - i'm sure with nige he'll learn quickly. Oh and should have clatered the keeper when he had the chance in the dying minutes when he was chucked up front. Gilbert - 8 - defended well i thought, not that there was much threat, and supported forward well too. Dickov - 6 first half - 7 second half - did alright on the right first half, but gradel showed why you want a proper winger in that position. Was in the right position to score, and linked up well with Howard for the first 20 mins, but tired towards the end which meant we couldn't keep hold of the ball to our detriment at the death. Wesoloski - 6 - Spelt wrong no doubt. Didn't notice him much, but most of the play was past him and king - up top, then wide. I was thinking at 2-1, although I hadn't seen them do too much they'd managed to keep Bullard and Murphy especially quiet - doh! King - same as above - goal shouldn't mask what was at best an ok performance. Dyer - 8 - Great run and shot in the first half, he was unluncky. Didn't see the ball as much second half, but i'm not suprised the joy Maxy was getting down the right. But when Max was crossing I saw him in the box looking for it which was good. Maxy - 9 - MOM - what an impact, you wonder what could have been if he'd been on from the start. Good crossing, always looking for the ball. For my first view of this lad, I wasn't disapointed. Fryatt - 6- a few nice touches, and proberly would have scored had Howard layed the ball back to him rather than shoot. Think he would have had more of an impact had he had Maxy on at the same time as him, was suprised to see him taken off. Howard - 7- Won balls in the air, seems to be growing in confidence he even tried a few 'skillful touches' not that all of them came off. I can see why he gets stick though, because he looks nakered all the time - and even more so when he clearly was in the second half. DJ - not much time, but he made a couple of nice touches - i think he should have been put on sooner, as both Howard and Dickov looked shattered. Bullard - 8 - didn't look like it was his day, and then when everyone thinks he's going to shoot he plays a neat one two and finds the corner of the net. This guy is class. Leicester Fans - 9 - would have been 10 except for the London wannabe's that got on the bus with me. Dressed neck to toe in burbery, i thought they were londoners, until i heard them singing a Maxy song, but the idiots were smoking - thats not good form!
Lovejoy Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 6 Gilbert 7 Morrison 5 Tunchev 8 Powell 6.5 Dickov 7 Wesolowski 5 King 8 Dyer 8 mom Howard 8 Fryatt 6 Gradel 8
syston_fox Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I'd struggle to give ratings for this one as the whole game seems one big blur now.... in fact i'm completely drained now. Partly from the fact Ive been up since 6, and partly from the whole emotional rollercoaster we've been through tonight. They all did themselves proud though and hopefully it will inspire them to do well in the league instead of them feeling disappointed at what might have been tonight.
Bert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 6 - Could've done alot better tonight i think, but made some good saves under pressure. Shit kicking at times. Gilbert 7 - He's going to be our "mr dependable" this season i think, did what he had to in defence and supported the attack really well, immense fitness. Powell 7 - A solid start, looked ok considering he'd not played 90 mins for a long time, will be class in League One. Tunchev 7 - Was solid as a rock, intelligent defending at times tonight, didn't give Zamora a sniff. Morrison 6 - Very good in the air, didn't have the best of games but he still did ok. Dickov 7 - Why did he start at right wing? Was virtually in-effective, got moved up front and scored, always works hard and has a great touch. Dyer 8 - Played very well linked up well with defence and attack, made some good runs. Jimbo 6 - His lack of match practice was clearly evident in the first half, got better as the game went on. King 7.5 - Got well stuck in, won niggly battles, worked hard, passed well and scored a cracker. Howard 7 - Has a great touch, won a lot in the air against a big big defender, played some nice touches and again, worked hard. Fryatt 6 - Still holds onto the ball for too long, starting to run the channels well and links well with Howard. Gradel 8.5 - How the game changed when he came on, the boy was immense tonight, great crossing, great work-rate, provided our first goal, has a good understanding with Gilbert. DJ - Not on long enough, but looked sharp and had some good touches. Fans 10 - Awesome.
Joe. Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 5.5 - Very shaky game tonight I thought. Not really sure he could have done much about the goals but there were a few hairy moments involving misjudgments and poor kicking which I wasn't too impressed with. Gilbert 6 - Steady game for Kerrea tonight, struggled to link up with Dickov which was understandable, but livened up when Max came on at half time. Morrison 5.5 - Like Martin, he was a bit all over the place. I still don't know why Hobbs didn't start seeing as he's our best centre back. Morrison's judgement was poor and his clearances were very wayward. Tunchev 6 - Fairly steady game for him, first half he didn't look to great but settled better in the second. Powell 6.5 - Decent debut for him, although he understandably can't get forward as much as we'd like him too, defensively he was sound and with the little help he received he dealt with most situations safely. I think he'll be good enough cover for now. Dickov 7 - First half, right wing - shocking. Completely played out of position by Pearson, everybody knows he can't play there and I hope the manager finally realises this now. However, second half, after being moved up front he was one of the players who changed the game for us, doing what he does best and getting in the box to get is first goal for us. Weso 5.5 - Poor I thought. Never really got a hold in the game and was lacking creatively too. Struggled alongside King when we really could have done with Oakley in there. King 6 - Lovely finish for his goal, but like Weso not a lot else to show for it. These two can't play together too often I don't think. Dyer 7.5 - Yes Lloyd. First half he was clearly our best player, making great runs down the left hand side. Second half he didn't receive as much of the ball due to Gradel coming on, but was involved in our second goal. Very good game. Howard 6.5 - Won his fair share in the air and held the ball up fairly well. I would have liked to have seen him in the box a bit more though. Fryatt 5 - Totally ineffectual on the night. Didn't cause the Fulham defence any problems, and was rightly substituted at half time to make way for Gradel. Subs: Gradel 8.5 - Now this is what you call and impact sub. This changed the game completely. His first involvement was to get to the byline to cross for Dickov's goal, and he was involved shortly after in the build up to the second goal, running through the middle of the pitch. Very lively, and great performance. DJ N/a - I fail to see how he will get any sort of run in the side now.
bigneville Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin - 6 - Made a couple of decent stops, but didn't fill me with confidence either. Gilbert - 7.5 - Always in the right place at the right time to break things down, got forward well at times. Morrison - 5.5 - Looked well out of his depth tonight, there first goal comes from him completly missing a free header on the edge of the area. But the guy is still young and learning. Not a great day for Mr Morrison though. Tunchev - 7.5 - Dealt with Zamora with ease for most of the game, made some great interceptions and tackles, definetly showed he could play at a higher level. Powell - 7 - Nothing special, just a steady performance from an experienced full back. Looks like he'll be able to do a short term job for us. Dickov - 7 - Wasn't in the game first half, but for 20 mins in the second half until his legs gave up, was fantastic. Caused lots of problems for the Fulham backline, and made a great tackle and pass for the second goal. Would have been a much higher mark if he had played up front for the entire game i'm sure. Wesolowski - 7 - For 80 minutes of a football match, him and King, more than dealt with Bullard and Murphy. Great energy from Weso, just a shame his lack of match fitness showed in the vital last 10 minutes. King - 7.5 - Best performance i've seen from King. Started very slowly again though, but once he found his feet, like above, him and Jimbo kept a quality premiership midfield quiet for 80 mins. Well taken goal, a reward for a improving performance from the youngster Dyer - 8.5 - Had there full back turning inside out, looked lively, and stepped up to the mark. Seems to be revelling in the confidence he's getting from the manager and fans. Always looked to do something in the final third, and great energy for 90 minutes. Fryatt - 6 - Didn't really do a lot, wasn't as poor as some might say in my opinion. But got nothing out of the Fulham back line, he did hold onto it for too long at times, but his understanding with Howard was there at times. Howard - 8 - Dominating performance up top from Big Steve. Had Fulham in chaos every time the ball was played forward, held it up well, flicked it on well, and was a good performance from Big Steve. His performance deserved a goal. Subs Gradel - 8 - The first 5 minutes when he arrived on, Fulham didn't have a clue what had hit them, and his creativity and running at the defence, where vital in both the goals for City. Once they worked out how he liked to play, wasn't as effective as earlier on. But this guy is full of confidence, and is always looking to create something. Fantastic prospect. Campbell - 6 - Didn't really get long enough, but rightfully so. Only appeared because Dickov couldnt actually run anymore. But he looked slow on the ball when he got it, this guy needs matches to be any good. But he ain't going to get the pitch time to get some rhythm and rightfully so. Others Pearson - 9 - Fantastic subsitution at half time, always out encouraging his players, and his team's effort deserved at least extra time. Mr Pearson just keeps ticking more and more boxes. I also really appreicated that he brought the whole squad over at the end of the game, and made them all clap the Leicester fans, made me feel like the effort and energy the fans put in was noticed by the players, and taken aboard. Top stuff Mr Pearson. Fans - 10 - Brilliant night out, signing all game long. Heard Fulham fans on the way home saying do they ever shut up? And when about 5 mins from the ground, another comment of "there still going in there". Last night was what the cup is all about. Brilliant. Fulham - 5 - For a premiership team, there where poor in my opinion. They only won the game, because of the extra fitness there players had, and that they had two quality centre midfielders, who only got a chance to shine when we were tired. Bullard and Murphy. I fail to see any reason how they beat Arsenal last weekend. Fulham fans - 2 - Absolutely terrible, one stand not open, and two half full stands. No songs, nothing to offer to there team. Terrible. Worse than the Walkers last season.
General Smuts Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I'd struggle to give ratings for this one as the whole game seems one big blur now.... in fact i'm completely drained now. Partly from the fact Ive been up since 6, and partly from the whole emotional rollercoaster we've been through tonight. I was so drained after the game it was unreal. Can only be Lloyd Dyer man of the match.
Guest Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 My sentiments exactly. I was so drained after the game it was unreal. Can only be Lloyd Dyer man of the match. Too right Dyer was fantastic last night
James. Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Yeah I really don't know how well we played (as in specific player ratings), particularly the defence. I didn't even know Powell was playing! And I swear I saw Hobbs on the pitch. Mental. Anyway, I would say Gradel, Dickov and Dyer were the standout players and I was also impressed with Howard's aerial dominance. Dyer man of the match, constant threat down the wing. Moving Dickov upfront in the second half and bringing on Gradel completely changed the game. Excellent to see Pearson not afraid to make bold changes, although Dickov shouldn't really have been on the wing to start with. I also saw passion and desire from the team and the fans. It feels like a new era with young, hungry players and also older players like Howard showing they want to play for the club. The fans really were fantastic. The fact we made more noise for their first 2 goals than they did says something. Last word to Pearson though. Aside from the Palace pre season game this was my first taste of the new team and it really got the excitement going again. Not to do with the fact we were playing a Premiership team, more to do with the fact I saw exciting players creating chances and never letting their heads down. Pearson takes a lot of credit for that. And it was good to see him come over to the fans at the end. Good man.
Jimmy Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 6 Gilbert 7 Morrison 6 Tunchev 6 Powell 6 Dickov 7 (mainly on his second half performance) Weso 5 (I forgot he was playing for the most part, he has missed his chance to claim a place in the team twice now) King 7 Dyer 7 Fryatt 6 Howard 7 Gradel 8 DJ N/A
sotonfox Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I can't really give any individual scores, however I would say that I am amazed at some of the marks of 5/6 being given here. This was probably the best team performance I have seen for a long time. Let's not forget that we were playing a premiership side that beat Arsenal at the weekend! (OK I don't know how either, but nevertheless) Aside from Morrisons blip for the first goal, they never really broke us down at the back, we were beaten by two 25 yarders , one of which was heavily deflected. The midfield was strong and broke up Fulhams play all night, possession and distribution were good. We had their defence under pressure for much of the 90 minutes A neutral observer would have had trouble telling which was the premiership side until maybe the last few minutes when the incredible wrok rate understandably dropped and the likes of Bullard and Murphy had that little extra time on the ball. I was proud to be a Leicester fan last night. On a lighter note, let's hear it for the steward who was on a one man crusade to get everyone to sit down. Nevermind fella!

Uncle Albert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 7 - Kicking let him down last night but looked comfortable enough with his catching and punching. Got lucky with the disallowed goal aswell. Gilbert 8 - Brilliant game, always supported down the wing and made some very good tackles. Nearly bagged one aswell. Morrison 7 - Won the ball well but lacked in composure. Tunchev 7 - Won the ball well but lacked in composure. Powell 7 - Good game, won the ball and passed the ball well. Dickov 6 1st half, 8 2nd half - First half couldnt get into the game and couldnt link with anyone but second half linked really well with Howard and Gradel and came looking for the ball and was always looking to get Dyer or Gradel away. There is only one Dickov. King 8 - Won the ball really well and his passing was excellent. Weso 7 - Passing really let him down last night, but his enthusiasm was class and supporting the front men and the defenders was very good. If only he would shoot. Dyer 9 - Excellent. Howard 8 - Mustard upfront, gave there centre halfs a right battle and it was Howard who usually won the battle. His lay offs for Dickov and Dyer were good to see. Denied a goal by a dodgy referee aswell. Fryatt 6 - Looked out of sorts and only had one notable chance, never got into the game. Gradel 9 - What a winger. Changed the game, came on and set a goal up within a minute. Clarss. Campbell - Didnt have enough time to do anything. He looked pretty glad to be getting in his car home with his mates after aswell. Pearson 9 - Just for getting the lads to play aswell as that and him showing the support his thanks after the game. Fans 10 - Class. Never shut up and the goal celebrations were amazing. (Bert and Maybes DJing was a highlight.)
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 On a lighter note, let's hear it for the steward who was on a one man crusade to get everyone to sit down. Didn't he have 'WISE' on the back of his jacket?
Mikey Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin - 6 Gilbert - 8 Morrison - 6 Tunchev - 7 Powell - 7 Dickov - 8 (2nd half performance was brilliant) King - 7 Weso - 7 Dyer - 8 Fryatt - 6 Howard - 7 Subs: Gradel - 8
Anish Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 6 Powell 7 Gilbert 8 Morrison 6 (would've been 7 but for the balls up for the first goal, and for a few occasions when he misjudged the ball in the air) Tunchev 8 Dickov 8 (6 in the first half) King 7 Weso 6 Dyer 8 Howard 9 (he was superb as a target man yesterday) Fryatt 6 Gradel 9 Campbell N/A
Thracian Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Can someone describe the way Powell played. Was he fit? Did he support attacks? Did he pass the ball quickly and accurately? Was he vulnerable?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Martin 7 Gilbert 7 Tunchev 8 Morrison 7 Powell 7 Dyer 8 Wesolowski 6 King 7 Dickov 7 Howard 8 Fryatt 6 Gradel 8 I was very impressed with Powell. He was never really done for pace and was accurate with most of his passing. Didn't really need to support much as Dyer had a stormer and had the measure of Stoor. I think he's a decent short-term signing.
Babylon Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Can someone describe the way Powell played. Was he fit? Did he support attacks? Did he pass the ball quickly and accurately? Was he vulnerable? Like a young Alan Sheehan in his prime.
Bert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Can someone describe the way Powell played. Was he fit? Did he support attacks? Did he pass the ball quickly and accurately? Was he vulnerable? Yes. Yes. Yes. No.
Thracian Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Yes.Yes. Yes. No. :D Thanks. That answer sounds just like my first girlfriend! Different era of course.
