Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Seriously, as far as I'm aware the only difference between that and a true diamond is that it uses MR and ML and who in their right mind doesnt use AML / AMR? Anyway, the bottom line is - if that tactic doesn't work then you're doing something wrong. Most common problems are: 1. Shit players. 2. Shit team talks. Get good staff - the best coaches as you can get - a decent physio, an assistant manager who can judge players potential / ability, a few good scouts scouting Scandanavia, Central and Eastern Europe if you're allowed. Sacrifice your budget for buying players to set up a decent staff as early in the game as possible and start developing your players. Wasn't it you that said they didn't bother with training schedules? I mean what the hell? If you're lazy enough with something that basic god knows what else you're forgetting to do. This is a really simple game, really, your assistant manager does most of it for you tbh!
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 I'm interested in your team talk routine too Finn? I tend to go for 'Wish luck' when I'm at home and 'For the supporters' when away from home, it worked for the first 3 seasons then decided not to this year annoyingly. Wish luck!? Euch, never. I wish luck away at Old Trafford, the Emirates and Anfield and that's about it. I tend to alternate between "You can win!" and "For the supporters!" - every now and then I'll throw in an "Expect you to win" if I'm playing someone really awful. Try not to use the same ones over and over because it de-motivates your players. To be honest, for the pre-game team talks I often let my AM decide and only change it if he says something stupid. Half time is often the most important team talk. When 2 - 0 up I tend to not say anything on advice of Shen and just say "You have faith" to my defenders so they don't implode. "Encourage" seems to be a bit wonky on 2009 so I use it a little less. Read the tooltips, though, negative ones like "Disappointed" don't work well if your squad is depressed but if they're getting a bit over confident it works wonders.
Fox You Forest Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 I suspect Ozwin needs a complete FM makeover from Gok Finners.
Ozwin Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Haha, I've played this game since 2006, I like to think I know what I'm doing. It's pretty embarassing getting help tbh.
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 I suspect Ozwin needs a complete FM makeover from Gok Finners. I don't understand how you can not succeed in this game. I'm really not trying to be harsh to the lad but it's all kinda simple. It just takes a bit of patience to set everything up in the first few turns.
Ozwin Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 First game using that tactic against Preston who are 22nd (I'm 24th >_>) - Went 2-0 down - Pulled 1 back - Had lots more chances, seemed to attack better than before I lost, but hopefully they take to this formation, because it's well annoying losing all the time.
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Like I said, it's possible your players are just shit. You should create a lot of chances with that formation, though.
Edmund Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Regens are totally random players, yeah. Basically the youth players that generate in every team's accademy every season. Nice one, ive always thought this was the case but others have said it's just old players redeveloped again which would make no sense.
Ozwin Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 With that tactic: Played: 3 Won: 0 Drew: 1 Lost: 2 >_> My team really is shite. Time to find some freebies.
Maybes Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 First season with Arsenal: 3rd Prem (Petered out towards the end) FA Cup Winners Carling Cup Finalists Champions League Semi Finalists Next season = Big things.
shen Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 With that tactic:Played: 3 Won: 0 Drew: 1 Lost: 2 >_> My team really is shite. Time to find some freebies. Playing Soley as a DC is rather suicidal. The guy is so prone to mistakes/concentration lapses due to his poor mental stats. You should get someone in with good mental and physical stats for your DC spots.
Ozwin Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Nice one. I always thought he was decent, he's been my first choice defender since League 2. It's time for a change then.
Fox You Forest Posted 31 May 2009 Posted 31 May 2009 Going to have a go at this tomorrow with Celtic.. Welcome to the third SI Community Challenge, Old Firm in the Premiership. Background The history of Scottish football is utterly dominated by the so-called 'Old Firm' clubs, Celtic and Rangers. Between them, they have won the Scottish League title an astonishing 93 times, the Scottish Cup 66 times and the League Cup 39 times. Historically both maintain periods of relative domination, such as each sides 9-in-a-row successes of the 60's and 70's (Celtic) and 80's/90s (Rangers). But this domination leads to accusations that the Scottish League is uncompetitive, with other clubs rarely able to break the 'Old Firm' stranglehold. Indeed, no other club has won the League since 1985. European success has been relatively fleeting. Celtic were the first British club to win the European Cup in 1967, while Rangers took home the Cup Winners Cup in 1972. In the current decade, both came close to unlikely UEFA Cup triumphs, runners-up in 2003 and 2007 respectively. Both clubs have long and proud histories, holding many British and European attendance records and winning numerous trophies. Both enjoy massive following in Scotland, Ireland and accross the world; with supporter's clubs to be found in the most unlikely outposts, worldwide fan bases are estimated to number in the millions. Celtic play at the massive Celtic Park, with it's 60,832 capacity; Rangers at Ibrox which holds 51,082, both of which are filled every other week. In spite of this, both clubs and many of their fans frequently express frustration at being 'held back' by the confines of the SPL, with it's limited TV revenue which has lead to the clubs increasingly becoming unable to compete with even lower end Premiership teams for transfer fees and wages, let alone clubs of comparitive size and stature in terms of history and fanbase, such as the Big 4 in England. As such, participation in the Premiership has become something of a holy grail for the 'Old Firm'...with it's massive TV contracts and vastly increased income arising, surely both of the Old Firm, in short time, could compete at the top end of the English Premier League? Of late, some English clubs' chairmen have also expressed a willingness to consider inviting the Old Firm to the party... In this scenario, we will find out just how well they can compete in the EPL if they'd been there in the current season. The aim To take over Celtic or Rangers in the English Premier League and achieve as much success as possible in the 2008/9 season. Points system For finishing position: 100: Champions 80: 2nd 75: 3rd 70: 4th 65: 5th 60: 6th 50: 7th to 10th 40: 10th to 14th 30: 14th to 17th 0: relegated Cups: 50: FA Cup winners 40: FA Cup finalists 25: FA Cup semi-finalists 30: League Cup winners 20: League Cup finalists 10: League Cup semi-finalists Bonus points: 15: For remaining undefeated at home in the league 5: For each win against the 'Big 4' (Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea) 5: For winning home and away against your Old Firm rival 2: For each player from the original squads who plays in more than half of your team's league games that season Database
welck12 Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Been having a pop at a game with everton and my god they really are cursed!! Whoever siad it earlier in the thread (cant be bothered to check back) wasn't wrong they really are jinxed with injuries!! Had Pienaar, Cahill, Fellanini, Hibbert, Lescott and Vaughan all out for more than 5 months off the season each! Still managed to get to uefa cup & fa cup semi and finsihed 6th in league so not to shabby
samlcfc Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 just had an awesome game against atletico madrid in a champions league game with man city, drew 2-2 away from home and then won 7-2 in the return leg.
AmericanScott Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Just won the Championship after an away day at Blackpool. 5 games to go, 17 points clear at the top. also: Sheffield United have been deducted 10 points for going bankrupt
DB11 Posted 1 June 2009 Author Posted 1 June 2009 With that tactic:Played: 3 Won: 0 Drew: 1 Lost: 2 >_> My team really is shite. Time to find some freebies. I'd resign.
Finnegan Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Has someone ever justified how fucking long it takes to "Find Manager Targets?"
dandannieldanok Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Has someone ever justified how fucking long it takes to "Find Manager Targets?" Man City's fault.
shen Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Has someone ever justified how fucking long it takes to "Find Manager Targets?" When starting a new game? Yeah, always wondered why it had to take so long. But this has pretty much existed since the CM days ('creating manager shortlists')
Lovejoy Posted 1 June 2009 Posted 1 June 2009 Just had my first real bash at creating a thorough training schedule on this game for the first time for Man Ure in 2010. Already the best side around, but want to see just how good I can get, and whether my youngsters can develop into superstars.
