Player Ratings vs Hartlepool

Recommended Posts

Martin 7 - Solid game today, pulled off one great save in the first half and generally looked comfortable.

Gilbert 6.5 - Did what he had to do today, nothing silly and nothing spectacular.

Tunchev 8 - I love this man. Solid as ever.

Hobbs 7 - Perfect partner for Tunchev, he was also good at the back today and never looked like really getting beaten.

Powell 7.5 - Reassuring, confident and most of all tidy. His experience definitely shines through.

Adams 6 - I think I'm going to get slated on this one. In build up play he was decent I'll admit, but his final ball was diabolical. I don't think it ever went to a Leicester player or got anywhere near for that matter. I can't give him a higher rating I'm afraid.

Oakley 6.5 - Apart from his goal did little, and almost got caught out once when he messed about with it for too long. However, he looked decent creatively today, and looked to make things happen.

King 6 - Steady game today for King. Didn't have much of a chance to influence the game particularly, but he always looked assured in possession.

Dyer 8 - YES Lloyd. Probably the best I've seen him today in terms of beating his man. He must have left the Hartlepool left back for dead at least 5 or 6 times today. I'd love to give him a higher rating, but like Adams his final ball was poor. Still, great game for him.

Howard 4 - Terrible. Why was he even playing today? He was never fit enough. Slow, lazy and completely off the pace today. I can't believe he actually lasted the full 90 minutes.

Fryatt 6.5 - Battled fairly well up there today, but received little service from his partner. He was pretty much restricted to shots from range.

Martin 6.5 (Average game. One bizarre two-handed punch which went all but straight up in the air and caused some consternation but made up for it with a couple of decent saves and some sound handling.

Gilbert 7 (Got forward well in support of Adams, particularly in the first half and helped cause endless headaches. Faded towards the end as did his partner).

Tunchev 8 (Mr Cool. Assured display of cultured defending. Never tried to do more than was necessary and made some tricky situations look routine)

Hobbs 7.5 (Contributed to our seventh clean sheet of the season in just 11 games and did much to help restrict a dangerous attack to little more than nibbles).

Powell 6.5 (Stood his ground against a formidable opponent opponent in James Brown. Times he could have dived in and risked being skinned or giving a way a penalty but he remained aware and should be reasonably proud of what he achieved).

Adams 7.5 (Excellent first half in which he looked constantly dangerous. Sadly his final delivery was lacking and understandably tailed off in the second half.)

Oakley 7 (Scored what proved the winning goal from a Dyer's cross after two minutes, involved himself in several good moves particularly first half hour and he also made a vital goalline clearance but his influence began to fade after half an hour or so).

King 6.75 (The Insurance Man. Quietish first half but increased his influence second half by breaking up attacks, making himself available and calmly passing us out of trouble or helping to launch new attacks. One excellent move and cross so nearly brought a goal for Howard).

Dyer 9 (Could have made his own video called '101 Ways to Beat a Defender'. Gave a masterclass in mesmeric wing play. Made the winning goal and could easily have had half a dozen assists with his selfless play. His final ball was sometimes disappointing but on other occasions I just felt that we lacked bodies in the box or anyone really attacking the near post. For me though it was the best individual display from a City winger that I've seen since for years, probably since Lenny Glover. Guppy was good but he didn't keep going past people like that. It was his final ball that made him so effective).

Howard 6.5 (Won lots of ball and set up several chances for Fryatt. Had a goal disallowed for what looked a fairly innocuous alleged push and might easily have scored with another header but he still didn't look sharp in the box and in fact looked completely knackered by threequarter time).

Fryatt 7 (Almost made a goal out of nothing when Howard knocked the ball down and he somehow squeezed a shot past the final defender and was never afraid to try a snapshot in what was a generally lively and sustained effort).

Pearson 7.5 (Picked a balanced side and ensured we kept attacking the game until we were running on empty. Apart from the last five minutes and the occasional threat from Brown we seemed to hold all the aces and it was just our failure to round off sometimes brilliant moves with a final pass or a really potent shot that disappointed. Even so I rated the display as one of our best of the season in terms of what we tried to do).

Yeah I'd agree with these Thrac, although I'm not sure I'd have given Howard any more than 5.

Thought we played really well today, especially second half. Don't think Howard was as bad as most are saying at all and Fryatt is becoming really important to the way we play. Holds the ball up well and keeps us threatening all game. Dyer was really superb and Adams is always trying to make things happen too. Really decent display from the midfield today and we didn't look too troubled at the back. We deserved to win by 2 or 3.

Another day when someone teaches him to shoot AWAY from the keeper?

The flick at the corner, when the defender mixed up and he nipped in and couldnt knock it in from the angle..... on another day they could both have been goals and on that day im counting on one of his longer range shots deflecting in too

I thought King was brilliant today, guess I was the only one.

Second half he was all calm authority. His passing was spot on and he got us out of so many tight situations with the minimum of fuss. I've labelled him the Insurance Man after today's effort because that's what he does - he somehow provides an extra man wherever we are and a means of setting ourselves in motion again.

He must have 6 or 7 shots today, none of them looked like going in.

Martin - 7 - Impressed today, did what he needed to do.

Gilbert - 6.5 - Steady game, never looked challenged at the back, got forward well at times

Hobbs - 7 - Had a decent game

Tunchev - 8.5 - James Brown was never getting past him today he was a rock

Powell - 6.5 - Looked fine until the last 10/15 mins when Brown was all over him

Adams - 7 - Good 1st half, went quiet 2nd half, couldve had a couple of goals if the front 2 werent as selfish

King - 6.5 - Looks very assured now at 1st team level, steady game for Kingy

Oakley - 6.5 - Got the winning goal, a few good moments, a few mistakes

Dyer - 8.5 - Was excellent today all over their full-back, made good runs on & off the ball

Fryatt - 7 - Chased the ball around, made a nuisance of himself

Howard - 5.5 - Generally ineffective but i dont think he did as bad as everyone is saying

Not a bad game, it was played in a good spirit i thought and refereed well. Pearson shouldve got Berner on for Powell later on as it looked like he was struggling. Also how is Craig King on the bench ahead of DJ, Dickov, Sappleton, Odhiambo and McKay? I think a couple of those may be injured? Im pretty sure i walked past Luke O'Neill on my way to the game he was in his kit and all

Martin - 7 - Safe, 1/2 good saves, some well take crosses, a couple of bad kicks. Looked comfortable

Gilbert - 7 - Solid, assured, linked well with Adams

Hobbs - 6.5 - Defensively a 7 to 7.5 but distribution was shocking, hoof hoof, and was that really a shot towards the end of the end half???

Tunchev - 8 - Always in control, won every header at the back and is a dude.

Powell - 7 - Solid again, did his job well.

Adams - 7 - For vision movement and awareness he could have had an 8, but his final ball / crossing was bobbins, if he could

sort out his final ball it'll explain why he got all those assists last season.

Oakley - 7.5 - Looked lively, up and down the park, worked his socks off and got the winner

King - 7.5 - Followed Oakley all over the park as Thracian said, like his insurance policy. Broke up a load of attacks and got forward nicely too, a better game than Millwall, lets not carry on the anti King thread please.

Dyer - 8.5 - MOTM, looked dangerous every time he had the ball. Either he was sharp or their RB only had 1 leg. Some of the runs made their bloke look like a school boy, Dyer knocking the ball past him to the right the going around him to the left.

Howard - 7 - What is expected of him, he won at least 75% of the balls pumped up to him was ovbiously still shagged from the bug that he'd had during the week, yet still gets slated for being an ex shagger / lazy etc. Get off his case.

Fryatt - 8 - Close 2nd behind Dyer, never stopped running and made countless runs into the channels winning balls, holding up play. Had he capped it off with a goal he could have taken the plaudits.

2 or 3 wouldn't have flattered us, shame we couldn't have put it to bed because I better Pearson would have liked to have given Craig King some more time.

Overall a comfortable win with us pretty much in control for 90 minutes.
