Player Ratings vs Hartlepool

Martin 7 - solid enough save for flapping at a corner in the first half

Gilbert 7 - good on the deck and going forward but looked weak in the air defending the diagonal cross field ball

Hobbs 7 - solid performance

Tunchev 8 - led the defence well

Powell 8 - a wise head and fit as a fiddle.Snuffed out any danger down the right

Adams 7 - mostly for his effort.Good build up play but poor delivery from crosses and corners.Seemed anxious to impress the manager

Oakley 7 - goal and clearance off the line add to his mark but can't help thinking that he and King are going to get muscled out by tougher midfields

King 6 - tidy enough but see above

Dyer 9 - outstanding.Felt something was going to happen every time he got the ball

Howard 5 - I hate it when players are scapegoated but I can't help feeling he could give a lot more to the team. Gives away more free kicks than he earns, needlessly giving away possession from attacking positions and often seems flat - footed when the ball comes in the box.Ball to Dyer was class though giving a glimpse of what he's capable of

Fryatt 8 - a leaner, keener version of the last few seasons. Worked hard to add to his goal tally

Not true, I think he's the most fouled player in the league isn't he? I'm sure someone told me that the other week.

Not sure how Fryatt is getting 8's too.

Are you surprised? Really? Come on you should know the deal by now...

Martin 5 - Get lost!

Gilbert 6 - Average, did nothing special

Powell 6 - Very clever and solid enough.

Hobbs 5 - Not one of his best games...

Tunchev 6 - See Gilbert

Lord Dyer 8 - MOTM, was our main creative spark - was amazing!

Adams 7 - Very impressed.

King 6 - Did well.

Oakley 7 - fantastic game from the captain

Howard 5 - Poor.

Fryatt 5 - See Howard...

That's a bit mean for Martin. He kept a clean sheet for a start and had quite a bit to do in achieving that. Even with his two-handed punch at least he was first to the ball and did something which was probably better than trying to catch it and cocking up big time. Otherwise I thought he was sound enough and handled both shots and crosses pretty well.

One of the best things about Dyer is that, even though he's usually well up with play, he's never offside when he makes those diagonal runs onto the end of through-balls. He really is on top form at the moment, looks a superb player for this league.

I was really pleased with how enterprising we looked, even though someone like Adams might get a bit of a slagging for his final ball - and it was poor on the whole today - how many times did he get the ball and try to make something happen? Double figures at least, a stark contrast to almost anyone last season. He reminds me a bit of Hendrie in that respect and also worked hard defensively even though you can tell it doesn't come naturally.

I don't care.

I think I actually hate him nowadays.

Yup, I hate him.

 He's a winger with pace who likes to run at the full-backs. Something Porter lacks to do and if he did do it he would be a very decent player.

It's perhaps fair to remember that Adams has not had a lot of football thus far and that it's perhaps inevitable that his final ball would be a bit iffy. I just thought it was great to see us looking really dangerous down both flanks. It can't be much fun for Howard trying to keep up! :D

I'd agree with that. The only criticism I would give either of them today was that at times they could have shot rather than cross and let the strikers pick up any loose balls.

Tunchev - 8

Dyer - 9

Superb dispay by Lloyd Dyer and Tunchev is immaculate and simplu amazing. I liked how he made that crunch tackle in the 2nd hafl when a Hartlepool player was running towards goal and was probably gonna score - Tackle timed to absolute perfection.

I think I watched a different game judging by the results.

Martin - 7

Defence - all 7.5's apart from Tunchev who gets an 8. They did all that was asked of them today. Even when under pressure, they were calm and secure.

Adams - 7 - Makes intelligent runs, gets stuck in, takes up some good positions, has decent awareness, just his final ball isn't there.

King - 5 - I didn't think he stamped his authority on the game enough. When we're in the ascendancy, he looks good, but when the opposition is enjoying a good spell, he doesn't do enough to reassert his authority.

Oakley - 6 - Same as King but gets an extra mark for the goal

Dyer - 8.5 - His speed and willingness to run with the ball frightens the life out of full-backs

Howard - 5 - Made a nuisance of himself, but wasn't affective enough

Fryatt - 5 - Not enough results from him. Times he should have passed, he didn't. He took shots when there was a better pass on. Perfect example was in the first half when he should have laid the ball off for an unmarked Adams running into the box, he didn't, turned and delivered a weak shot easily saved by the keeper.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Hobbs gets over-rated?

He didn't win all his headers today and his distribution was shocking.

Tunchev had to clear up about three times when he got pulled out of position.

However we did keep a clean sheet and maybe I'm being a bit harsh on him.

I didn't think today was one of his better performances but he does have a certain style, movement and appearance that enhances judgement on him that Morrison doesn't have.

Beyond that I think the main difference is that Hobbs has been inducted into the school of passing at Liverpool whereas Morrison hasn't had that benefit.

I think over a period of time we will see Morrison's passing game improve I think he has it in him to be a decent passer it's just not something he currently does instinctively.

I agree, Morrison and Tunchev, Is a much better partnership, Hobbs i think has looked nothing but average, since he has been playing

One word: frustrating.

Martin - 6 - Practice taking kicks. For 3 hours. Each day.

Gilbert - 7 - Good show.

Tunchev - 8 - Covered for his fellow defenders on many occasions. He is playing in 2nd gear half the time.

Hobbs - 6 - Suspect distribution.

Powell - 7.5 - He played well today. Even made a storming run forward to the box. Makes it look easy. Well, it is. It's Hartlepool at home.

Adams - 6 - Arghghhhhhrggrrgrgrhrgh!!! :@ If his crossing and corner taking were half as good as his ball skills and runs forward, what a player he would be! He summed up our frustrating afternoon for me.

King - 6 - Fairly non-descript.

Oakley - 6 - Fairly non-descript also.

Dyer - 8.5 - This man is lightning quick. Tore them apart for the 1st 10 minutes and then we didn't use him. Why not?

Howard - 5 - I'm a Howard fan, but I'll hold me hands up today and admit he was crap.

Fryatt - 5 - Greedy bugger.

Subs (well almost):

Berner - He looked up for it on the sideline but never actually made it on. Shame.

What a frustrating day. I'm annoyed. We need to finish these teams off when we are up and have the advantage. No killer instinct for me. The ball was overplayed in the final third and on countless occasions Fryatt had a go at goal when there was a man free left or right.

Frustrating.

Martin 7 - Looked commanding

Gilbert 7 - Pace was dangerous

Tunchev 8 - Class

Hobbs 7 - Pretty solid

Powell 7 - Solid once again

Adams 7 - Looked dangerous down the wing, but final ball could have been better

King 6.5 - Lacks prescence in the middle of the park

Oakley 6.5 - Goals win matches which is why he got a 6.5. He doesn't look hungry at all, and yet again was out fought on numerous occasions in the 1st half in particular.

Dyer 8 - Dangerous as ever and an excellent engine.

Howard 5.5 - One of those days for Big Steve where hejust couldn't seem to do anything right.

Fryatt 4 - PASS THE FCUKING BALL :@ ! Oh, and his lack of speed at times is painful.
