I remember the last time we played non-league opposition. Hereford back in 1999, took us to a replay and extra-time. God that was nervy, and we were 6th in the Premiership at the time.

No, we've been involved in a few games as big, if not bigger, eg: FAC 3rd round Swindon 1 Boro 2 FAC 3rd Round Birmingham 2 Boro 0 Fac 4th Round Boro 1 Newcastle 1 4th Round replay Newcastle 2 Boro 1 + several other FAC games against other Football League sides FA trophy Final at Villa Park Conference play off final at Brittannia Stadium FA trophy final at the new Wembley for it's first ever competitive match in front of 55,000 THis being only the 1st round of the cup means it ranks relatively low in the list of Boro's biggest games.

Yep, Graz was only on loan to Boro from Peterborough at the time of the Newcastle matches. He scored in the home match with a header from a corner. Ended up at Barnet and his goals got them promoted from the Conference.

Ric Flair Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 Possibly. He's a good finisher but too often will miss good chances too. The best thing about his game is his work rate though, really leads the line and will be found out wide as often as in the middle, and scores a number of goals from closing down and mistakes etc. I'm sure he'd do well if someone picked him up in League 1 or 2, but probably not higher. Personally, Barry Hayles was a much better player when with us. You got any other players that are good enough for league football?

Certainly, many of our players could hold their own in League 2, but I can only think of 2 that could do a job in your division, namely Morison (who Boro turned down a £150k bid from Plymouth in the Summer) and our keeper Chris Day. Chris was released by Millwall at the end of last season and has played for several league clubs including Palace, Watford, QPR and Oldham. Also has England u21 caps. At 33 he's not that old for a keeper, has good all round ability and been excellent for us this season - his quality shining through. Other players of note are Daryl McMahon (ex-Orient), Mitchell Cole (ex-Southend) and Callum Willock (ex-Port Vale). Last January, four of our players were taken to league 1 Gillingham, by our ex-manger, Mark (Judas) Stimson, along with several other Conference clubs' players. They ended up getting relegated, so maybe the jump to League 1 from the Conference is a bit much. However, in a one-off FA cup against the likes of yourselves, who knows?

You may think this will be a walk in the park against a non-league side and a waste of money, however you are mistaken. Over the past few years we have been developing to the stage where we now have the best facilities outside of the FL and facilities which are far better than the majority of L2 and even L1 sides. Our training facilities are state of the art and bring in hundreds of thousands of pounds to set us up for when we make the FL, at which time we will rocket up the leagues. With the on-pitch aspect coming together we will be a league side within the next 3 years and from then on will rise up in a similar guise to Hull to be in the Premier League by 2020 and in Europe by 2025. We are what could be described as a sleeping giant, just waiting to pounce. On top of that we have what is widely regarded as the best manager in lower league football, an extremely intelligent, tactically gifted and wise mind in Graham Westley, assisted by John Dreyer, who has been described as non-league's Carlos Quieroz. Add in the best goalkeeper below the Championship who was offered numerous league contracts but turned them down because he didn't want to have to move his family and because he is landlord of a very successful pub in Stevenage, a striker in Steve Morison who will punish any defence and can easily cut it in L1 but has seen our potential and wants to stay with us to take us up the leagues and amazingly talented young players in Ronnie Henry, Scott Laird, Lawrie Wilson, Michael Bostwick and Callum Willock and not forgetting the pacey and deadly Mitchell Cole and you have an extremely talented side on your hands who are now getting to know each other and are playing some stunning passing football. It is certain to be a fantastic game and one i am very confident we can go on to win. £15 to watch our team is great value and in a few years you can tell how you watched the side top of the Premier League when they were still non-league.
