Hume calls on fans to give City time

by Steve Pumfrey

Former Leicester City favourite Iain Hume believes the Blue Army need to be patient with their team.

The Canadian striker said last season's relegated side deserved to be booed.

But he is not sure the same can be said of the current charges, who have taken just three points from the last 12.

Hume, who joined Barnsley in a £1.2million summer move from the Walkers Stadium, was a member of the City side which suffered the drop from the Championship.

And he believes City's current standing of sixth spot in League One - and with a game in hand - compared to last season's traumas, should "ring a few bells" with the supporters.

Hume said: "The fans have just got to give it a few more games.

"If things are still going a bit wrong at Christmas, the fans would be entitled to have a go.

"Everyone knows that City don't want to be in League One, but they are and that's where a lot of the frustration comes from."

Hume, who is 25 today, says the chorus of disapproval from the terraces is bound to unsettle the players.

"You do hear it and it does affect you," he said. "When there are 20,000-plus in the Walkers, it's difficult to switch off from it.

"Last season, it was deserved because we had a bad run of form and were relegated."

However, Hume believes there are "big enough characters" in the squad to pull City through.

"It takes something special for a squad of new players to click straight away and it's gone well so far," he said.

City manager Nigel Pearson was fuming after Tuesday night's 3-2 defeat at Brighton. And it cost the players their customary day-off because they were told to report to the training ground.

Hume said: "There has been a little slump, but the squad is very strong at Leicester and I'm expecting them to bounce back."

Hume's concerns with Barnsley revolve around the lower reaches of the Championship.

However, Tuesday night's derby win at Doncaster lifted the Tykes out of the bottom three and Hume added: "We needed that win. Now we'd like to get a few more into our own ground. Hopefully, this win will give us a big boost."

City hope to start selling tickets for their FA Cup first-round clash against Stevenage tomorrow.

Stevenage booked their trip to the Walkers Stadium on the weekend of November 8-9 with a 4-1 victory over Horsham in last night's replay.

Thanks for your input Iain, it's greatly received.

Jog on you twat.

You have to blame the Merc and the Official Site for digging out comments/making reference to these here to day gone tomorrow under performing players and managers, it's usually when they have some link with the next opposition. - as if we care what they think!

Fcuk off. You pissed off after saying you'd stay, your opinion is redundant.

I'll listen to people who actually give a shit about this club and its supporters.

By all accounts only those that boo, but they're all down the pub now, so you're right nobody.

Anyone would think he slagged us off.

Well he's having a go at those that booed, the point is what has it got to do with him?

Exactly, although I suppose it's not his fault if some journalist asked him for an opinion on the matter.

What on earth possessed the mercury to print this tosh, if they haven't got anything relevant to print then don't print it.

Blanderson has always relished any opportunity to have a go at LCFC fans - this booing is too good to miss, besides MM's probably promised him something special tonight :P

Its not like Hume went to the Mercury and told them he wants to say something to the fans, the mercury have obviously gone to him and asked him a question. He could say what he has done or he could tell them to fook off because he doesn't give a shit anymore.

Yes its irrelevant and pointless but jesus, no need to send a load of abuse at Hume.

Or he could say 'it's not for me to comment on LCFC, hadn't you noticed Bill I'm a Barnsley player now'!

no need to send a load of abuse at Hume.

Maybe not for this, but considering he said that he'd be loyal and stay to put things right before buggering off to Barnsley soon after in the summer, the abuse is to be expected.

Oh, why not? Sending abuse over pointless things is a Leicester City-supporting tradition.

I meant he doesnt deserve abuse for this interview, if people want to abuse him for the way he left then thats fair enough. I think the club had quite a big say in Humes departure, but I'm sure Hume was more than willing to leave when the opportunity arrived.

I know what you mean, but I still kind of miss the little sod.

Blimey, how much outrage for what is an irrelevant article. To be honest, Hume is actually correct in what he says, but I guess that doesn't matter.

For the record, Hume did not walk out on us, Barnsley made us a good offer, we accepted as the money was too good to turn down. We then told Hume to sign for them, telling him he wasn't in the plans for next season.
