Gareth Williams was a good player, one of the best passes of the game I've ever seen. It's just that when teams play it via the air he has no impact

The bloke who I've quoted was called James, he was obviously a Watford fan and was one of my best mates - and he passed away this morning aged 28.

He had a right moan at me about this thread, saying no-one ever replied to him on here. I ignored him really at the time so I thought I'd try to find the thread.

We've been to a couple of Watford-Leicester games together over the years. He didn't enjoy the 4-1 beating we gave them last season but he had the last laugh with that one. He lived down south so I didn't get to see him very often. Last time I saw him was for the Southampton away game in March. At the time me and Alex were making a big thing about the fact we were trekking to Southampton on a Tuesday night even though we were playing shit and we were bound to lose. We spent the whole time being told to sat down by stewards and it was thoroughly miserable really, but I'm so glad I went now cos it was the last time I saw James. He always had a funny comment or two to make. He wasn't very impressed with Steve Howard that night. I think the words "turning circle" and "oil tanker" came into it somewhere along the line.

First game we went to was Leicester-Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly when Sturridge got a hat-trick for us and Chiesa got one for them, cos he loved Nuno Gomes.

He also liked Barcelona. Named his dog Eto'o and used to text me saying "the dogs scored" whenever Eto'o belted one in for Barca.

You couldn't find someone who loved football more than him. I am just praying now that we beat Palace and get to go to the Vic for the next round, will be really emotional. I texted him a couple of days ago telling him to get fit for when the Mighty Foxes come to town in the 4th round.

Anyway, at least someone's replied to you now mate!

Sorry to hear that Fez. I know I don't know you but a few years ago I had a mate pass away who was only 32 and reading that brought a tear to me eye. Very sad.

I dunno. I don't think so. He was quite a private person and didn't like any fuss or anything so it would probably just be enough being there, and I wouldn't really mind who won the game. He was a season ticket holder at Watford and knew the players really well so they will hopefully do something anyway.

Sad terrible news. My pal and work colleague passed away just before Christmas at the tender age of 29 and it really hurts.

Fez I am so sorry to hear this. I am thinking of you and his family at this tragic time.

I know I have mentioned it before but when I hear about these young people who die, it reminds me of my dad, every time.

He was only 39 when he died.

It is true what they say, the good die young.

I usually raise a glass for my dad at the weekends, I will make sure I raise an extra one for you and your friend James.

After a season of ups and downs for the football club, it was great to finish with a flourish. I don’t believe any of us would have predicted two wins in the last two games and 13th place in the division during our early season struggles. Having all but reached safety after the Doncaster game, we made things difficult for ourselves in April, but the end result was exactly what we needed. On behalf of the members of the Watford Supporters Trust (WST), we send our congratulations to Brendan and the players for a job well done.

The End of Season awards heralded no surprises with Tommy Smith deservedly retaining his title of Player of the Season and Grzegorz Rasiak’s wonderful shot at the Valley taking the award for Goal of the Season. Equally, the performances of Ross Jenkins this season have demonstrated a maturity that would not usually be expected in a second year Academy scholar, so the Young Player award was very well deserved indeed. But the highlight of the awards for the WST board members was the Supporter of the Season award which was posthumously given to James Llewhellin, a founder member of WST and Enables. James had been a regular at Vicarage Road for the past 24 years, travelling from his Hampshire home to games despite being severely physically disabled. Watford FC was a huge part of James’s life and he, in turn, touched the lives of those of his fellow Watford supporters who were lucky enough to meet him. The standing ovation which greeted the presentation of the award to James’s father, David, was very moving indeed and meant a lot to the both Llewhellin family and James’s friends.

As we contemplate the close season, it is clear that the board of the football club will have to make some very difficult decisions over the Summer. Some of these decisions will not be popular with supporters, but all must be viewed in light of the current financial position of the club. Brendan and the players will face even greater challenges next season and will need strong support from Watford fans. In this regard, we would like to remind WST members that the early bird renewal date for season tickets is on May 9th. During this difficult economic time, many people will not be able to afford to renew their season tickets, but the club have made every effort to make the tickets affordable. So, for WST members who haven't renewed yet, and those who are not season ticket holders now who are thinking of buying one, if you can afford to do so please sign on the dotted line. I think most Watford fans are very positive about what Brendan can deliver. Next season will not be boring, but he and the team need all the support that they can get.
