Bert Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Why the fook should colour of skin matter? All it means to me is that they're have family from different parts of the world.
LeeCovFox Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Why the fook should colour of skin matter? All it means to me is that they're have family from different parts of the world. Well it does matter in terms of the evolution of black America. It goes a little way to proving that America is the land of opportunity for all for those who subsribe to such a notion. Obama's skin colour shouldn't matter in a political context, which is the point I have been making. He should have been voted in based on his policies. I believe that the vast majority of the electorate did vote on that basis. I was just making the point that perhaps a larger minority voted for non-political reasons this timre around than would have in the past. Obama's skin colour was very important for many people in America, particulary the African-American community. It is an extremely important hurdle for them a overcome in terms of their history. I can see why, I really can. I just wish that I didn't have the feeling that a substantial minority of the electorate voted blindly, based only on Obama's skin colour. I absolutely agree, by the way, that colour should not be an issue. I was just pointing out that sometimes, unavoidably and perhaps understandably so, that it is.

I can see what you're saying, but it shouldn't get to the point where the colour of someone's skin is unavoidable.
LeeCovFox Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 I can see what you're saying, but it shouldn't get to the point where the colour of someone's skin is unavoidable. I agree in principle. But certainly for the African-American community, it has to be understood that the election of somebody of the same race to the highest office in the US is extremely significant in the context of their cultural history. It saddens me that skin colour is such an issue in what was a political contest, and I wish that it wasn't the case, but I can see why.
Raj Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Im gonna be first twat president of Foxestalk. By the way i think this historic moment should be celebrated. If only for the fact that Dubya will be gone in Jan!!! :scarf:
Raj Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 "Lewis Hamilton, First black Formula 1 champion""Barrack Obama, First black president" "Paul Ince, First black english premiership manager" Is there any wonder everyone hangs on when something is racist or not? Fair enough there black, Fair enough there was a divide years ago but we're over that now aren't we? A multi-cultural world? Who cares if there black or white? Why even bring the matter into it? I just don't get it. But, If You're Thinkin' About My Baby It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White Actually when you think that in the mid 50's blacks were not even allowed to sit next to whites on buses etc...it DOES matter that a black man has become the first ever president of the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_Parks Dont try and NOT make this a big deal. IT IS A BIG DEAL!
Daggers Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Dubya will be gone in Jan! There is the celebration
Head Honcho Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Why is it always focused on blacks to prove some point. What about Asians, Orientals and Latin Americans. I dont see them as achieving anywhere near as much as blacks in our western society. One word Slavery! I think we're all supposed to have some deep empathy for the plight of Black Africans during the 17th and 18th century many in the US certainly still have a chip on their shoulder about it! Personally I have more empathy for the plight of current slaves in Africa today. There are an estimated 2 million slaves in Mauritania and Niger alone!

But, If You're Thinkin' About My Baby It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White I agree Matt, it's definitely not that big a deal that a black man has become President of the United States for the first time. I mean, that whole Civil Rights Movement was FOURTY YEARS AGO. That's, like, older than Steve Howard!!!1111 I'm not racist, but these darkies should stop living in the past!!!!1
Thracian Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 The most alarming thing for me about yesterday's voter turn out was that in some states, surveys suggest that 97% of black Americans voted for Obama. This concerns me because many of these voters gave Obama their support because of the colour of his skin. That to me smacks of a little racism in itself. It also worries me that many of these voters may have had very little knowledge of what Obama stands for politically. They voted blindly. You can't go around suggesting blacks and half-blacks are racist. Didn't you know cost it's been emphasised enough. It's only whites are racist! Anyway, as for our first "black" president that's fine for the headline makers but in fact he's cappucino. And from what I've heard of him he'll add milk or otherwise according to how it suits his political purpose. Not that I give a shit. His colour would have been irrelevent if it hadn't been rammed down my throad. I was just hoping for a president who was an improvement on Bush - which shouldn't be difficult. He could be a native American Indian or a slant-eyed oriental rice planter for all I care.

samlcfc Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 i seen a black woman on the news the mornin after phoning her mum "yeh mum, he did it, we showed them" that is what she said showed who exactly?
Rocket-Ron Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Will Obama now been known as the the 1st black president of the united states of America instead of the 44th president of the united states of America
davieG Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 He's certainly got extra weight on his shoulder because of his black heritage, human nature being what it is this could go two ways, if he's successful people could well forget that he's 'just' black and think of him more as a good President who happens to be black on the other hand if he fails and disappoints all those non-blacks who've voted for him they might then think of him as just a 'black' failure and that could put back the progress of equality by a good few years. Let's hope he's successful in the eyes of more than just black people.
Ross-Kemp Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 This is everything that is wrong with the world today. Does it matter what colour his skin is really. If he was white, no-one would have made this much if a deal out of it. All due respect to African-Americans, Africans, Indians, Asians, IT DOESN'T FOOKING MATTER WHAT COLOUR YOU ARE. GET OVER IT.
Zingari Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 It'll be harder for him to hide in the White House

Well that's hardly a surprise is it?! The whole point is that in just 40 years America has progressed from a segregated country where all public and government services were split into "white" and "coloured" domains, where black citizens were forced off the voting ballot and with a large amount of racial violence, to then electing a black person as their leader.
