davieG Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Posted on: Tue 11 Nov 2008 Leicester City's board of directors has been strengthened by the arrival of experienced businessman Atul Sharma. Sharma is a UK based chartered accountant in the City of London who specialises in corporate finance with a focus on international tax planning and wealth management. City's newest addition has an abundance of international experience and contacts in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Sharma said: "It is indeed a pleasure to be asked to join the Board of Leicester City; a progressive club with an excellent tradition. "I particularly relish the opportunity to support Chairman Milan Mandaric in building a sustainable foundation both on-and-off the field that can help the club to achieve its targets and reach the Premier League. "In fact I was born in Uganda and many of my family and friends moved to Leicester and now support the club. "In a week of change in the world it is indeed welcome that myself, as an Asian and a keen football fan, has been given the chance to help this great club move forwards in a new direction." Mandaric added: "I am delighted that someone with Atul's experience and understanding of business and football has agreed to join the club. "We have big plans and ambition for this club and Atul's appointment is another step along the way to making Leicester City a major force once again." Sharma joins Mandaric, Chief Executive Lee Hoos, Tony Lander, and Malcolm Stewart-Smith on the board and will attend this evening's League One fixture against Yeovil Town at the Walkers Stadium.

surrifox Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 hopefully some much needed business acumen will bring about a positive change at the club hmmm I wouldn't bet on it . You know the saying... "an accountant is someone who advises you about a problem that you didn't know you had ..and then offers you a solution that you can't understand"
Zingari Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Don't be fooled. He's the new manager in waiting. <_< he's a bloody good bhangra dancer , even if the cameran is crap http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Jk7VWle2jk0
Ultra Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Sharma is a UK based chartered accountant in the City of London who specialises in corporate finance with a focus on international tax planning and wealth management. Obviously qualities far more suited for the post than a knowledge of football or the club...
Fox in a Box Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 A good accountant would be able to revise the cost of season tickets to a more manageable price....... Just dont count on it! welcome atul! all the same....
andyh1884 Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Obviously qualities far more suited for the post than a knowledge of football or the club... Quite right - directors of football clubs should be fans, with absolutely no business sense at all, because as we all know, football clubs aren't like any other business, they rely on 'fans' with 'passion' and 'love' for the club to run them terribly & send them into Administration..... I demand a board of directors, whose legal responsibilities are to run the business properly, that consists solely of 'the average football fan in the stands':rolleyes:
davieG Posted 11 November 2008 Author Posted 11 November 2008 He's there to find and arrange a buyer. Yours sincerely davieG
Thracian Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 He's there to find and arrange a buyer.Yours sincerely davieG Interesting to see how far that ends up from the truth within a couple of years.
Corky Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 I have put in a bid and am set to buy the club.Yours sincerely davieG Go on davieG, restore this club

Chances are that if we had fans in charge, the club would go down the pan before you can say "administration" .

Bellend Sebastian Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Like it or not, football clubs are businesses. Chances are that if we had fans in charge, the club would go down the pan before you can say "administration" . Let's be honest, the fans are the daftest people in football. People say that managers and players are cretins, but they get paid tens of thousands pounds for doing a job regardless of how well they do it, whereas we pay a fortune to watch something that as often as not is shit

Simi Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Think davieG has it spot on, with what he said about a buyer. Can't say I like where this is heading.

act smiley Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Selling the club? Surely merely a way of improving the backhander-to-transfer ratio?
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 hopefully some much needed business acumen will bring about a positive change at the club If he's Indian, he may know Anil Ambani, the Indian Billionaire.. could he be our new Roman Abramovich??
