marbelladave Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Even that wouldn't be bad. 4-5-1 with Adams and Dyer on each wing. And a midfield trio consisting of King-Berner-Oakley. There is a lot of creativity in there, and I'd give Dyer and Adams free license to do as they please, as long as they support Fryatt and don't leave him isolated. This could actually work. Didn't I say exactly that several hours and a couple of pages ago! Do try and keep up......
Koke Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Didn't I say exactly that several hours and a couple of pages ago!Do try and keep up...... In my defence, I mentioned it another thread on Sunday night. So yes, do try and keep up.
marbelladave Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 In my defence, I mentioned it another thread on Sunday night. So yes, do try and keep up. And I said much the same a week last wednesday..... :D :D Seriously, this formation (or things very similar) has been advocated by many on the forum over the last month or so, but has often just deteriorated into a Howard bashing thread. Well as Howard plays as an individual I remain unconvinced that he is good for the team. I would love to see the formation that we have been debated given a run, but sadly I expect to see NP 'make do' on saturday with Howard returning for the next match.
Daggers Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 In my defence, I mentioned it another thread on Sunday night. So yes, do try and keep up. Tch! Me AND Thracian said it on Saturday. Everyone needs to get with the game.
Corky Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Now you see, if Elvis was still here we'd have a perfect replacement, so well done to all those who wanted him out, saying he was no good

I do agree that it could work but its a big game to be experimenting with new formations. We should have tried something like this against Rotherham. When I said that we can't play 4-3-3 without it turning into a negative 4-5-1, i meant with previous squads and like you say, we have a lot more creativity in midfield now than we have in the past. Not sure I like Fryatt as the lone striker, i think you need to be either big and strong or quick to be able to play that role well and Fryatts none of them. To get the best out of Fryatt I think you need a striker alongside him.
Joe. Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Tilley how have you managed to create 29 other accounts?
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Have the 30 people who voted for DJ Campbell ever seen him play in a Leicester shirt?!
clazkel Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 I'd like to see Chambers or Hayles up front with Fryatt
Asha Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 Have the 30 people who voted for DJ Campbell ever seen him play in a Leicester shirt?! In this league? Fryatt was shit in the championship, and has been in the goals in League One. I expect something similar from Campbell, given a run in the side.
maddog Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 It has to be DJ he needs to finally get a chance at this club. DJ can be part of our long term future, given the chance, match practice, and goals to boost his confidence. Dickov will only be here for another season or two because of his age. DJ must start.
Scow Posted 17 November 2008 Posted 17 November 2008 I like the idea of 4-5-1/4-3-3 - in a way, we've been playing with that sort of set up in recent weeks, with Dyer given more licence to join in with the front two and Oakley being allowed to roam. Oakley - King - Berner - Gradel -----------------------Dyer --------------Fryatt A slightly different team to one or two that has been suggested on here. I know Gradel's been out of form, but I'd be tempted to start him left side and let him run at the defence by cutting inside on to his right foot; a position he did well in for Bournemouth last season. Dyer would provide the goal threat and pace up alongside Fryatt.
carterfox90 Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 i chose hayles only for the reason that he should be slightly fitter that the others dickov if he was fitter this game is going to be fast & furious we need fit players who will last the 90 minutes & run their hearts out for the team 'good job howard is banned then i suppose as the movement of running is not in his armoury come to think about it theres not much in there whatsoever !!!!11

Dyer would provide the goal threat and pace up alongside Fryatt. Another variation on a theme, and probably as valid as any of the others. The facts are these; Playing 4-4-2 with 2 men up, 2 men wide and a back4 that would not push up left our center mids a huge amount of space to cover and encouraged the return of the long ball game. This started to become really apparent about 4 weeks ago. NP countered this by bringing in Berner and shifting Oakley to a narrow right position where he was able to help in midfield as well as get forward down the inside right channel. However he stopped short of moving to a 'proper' 4-3-3. This worked quite well going forward with both Oakley and King getting more involved but proved a bit 'flaky' defensively (Brighton and Swindon). This may (or may not) improve as Berner gets more accustomed to the roll and Tunchev and Hobbs / Morrison get back in the groove. That is where we are at now, the question is will NP take Howard's absence as a chance to go 4-3-3 or will he stick to 4-4-2 with Howard returning next game? I (and others) on here prefer the former, Fryatt and Dyer are our goalscorers so have to play, so who plays with them? If Gradel is in the right frame of mind, I would give him (and Dyer) free roles to support Fryatt. So far this season he has been pretty isolated on the right wing, so turn him loose and lets see what he can do!
Tilley Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 DEEEEEEEEEJJJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!! If he gets anything less than thirty minutes, I riot.
morris1234 Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 forget that, its gone spaggy................ dj up front for me please
chamfinn10 Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 I would give Chambers a go he got the pace and has young legs
Thracian Posted 18 November 2008 Posted 18 November 2008 I'm a bit reluctant to pick a team in case Pearson goes with it, gets beaten, claims I influenced him then sues for the effect that losing had on his reputation! On the other hand if he wants to win whatever...... Henderson; Gilbert, Tunchev, Morrison, Mattock; Oakley, King, Berner; Gradel, Fryatt, Dyer. Subs: Edworthy, Hobbs, Porter, Dickov, DJ. That's assuming Gilbert and Porter are fit of course. The system would be flexible transforming from 4-3-3 to 4-5-1 or even 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 with ease if the players stayed aware.

That looks worth a try to me. Howard was extremely poor on Saturday so frankly I don't think we'll miss him. Standing freezing on an uncovered terrace doesn't tend to make you feel forgiving, but I cannot remember a single thing of merit that he did. He barely won anthing in the air; he did a lot of whinging; he shot very tamely in the first half when Fryatt squared it to him in space; and he missed a point blank header in the second half that my mum would have buried. And anyhow, I'd rather see just about anyone join Fryatt up front except DJ, who is simply not a footballer in my book. If NJ decides to play someone else up front with Fryatt, then I hope he goes with Chambers, who appears to be fit again, with reliable old stalwart Dickov as backup on the bench.
