I have a book called The Freelance Photography Market Handbook and it's basically a list of all places that publish photos for magazines, cards, calendars etc. You can buy them on Amazon. They come out every year. Really good if you want to get your photos noticed.

That will be similar to the Writer's Handbook that I get every few years then.

Had any success through it?

You wouldn't want to.

If curiosity gets the better of you though, don't be eating whilst you check it out.

Whats the thing on the beach on the second photo?

It is a cow... these are tidal flats between 2 small islands, and there was a herd of cows wandering around. Surreal, but picturesque.

http://www.photography-news.com/2011/03/study-adult-monkeys-recognise.html

March 19, 2011 /Photography News/ According to a new study published in the journal Animal Cognition this week, untrained Barbary macaques are able to recognise photos of their friends.

During the experiment, experts in primates have shown pictures of other animal species. Adult macasques were able recognise photographs of group members, and spent more time scrutinising the images trying to better understand ones that were unfamiliar to them.

Juvenile monkeys were fascinated but puzzled by the photographs. They often tried to greet or touch the animal in the image.

These observations have led scientists to conclude that many monkeys are able to distinguish each other's photos, and even those who do not succeed can learn with age, and that in adult primates at least, the monkeys are able to memorise the faces of a large number of individuals.

The results provide evidence that experience plays a key role in the development of individual recognition and understanding.

Currently, studies on recognition in primates often require the subjects to receive extended training, repeatedly exposed them to pictures and rewarding them for correctly distinguishing between stimuli. By using this method, the monkeys sometimes become accustomed to the pictures prior to the actual experiment, thereby skewing the results.

With evidence that the macaques are able to spontaneously recognise photographs, researchers believe that scientists will no longer be restricted to working in the lab and training the monkeys when studying the cognitive behaviour of these remarkable animals.

I am a complete novice at photography so please help if you can!

I have a nikon d3000 with a 70/300 lens, with the moon being at it's closest now for almost 20 years I'm wondering if you lot have any tips for capturing stunning photos of it?

Obviously I can use the auto settings, but will manual settings provide better pics, and if they do which should I choose. Shutter speeds, focus etc mean nothing to me at present so any help would be appreciated

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure if you have a much slower shutter speed it will let a lot more light in, which I imagine will be quite key in photos of the moon

I'm sure no one will be interested, but a photo i sent to the Leicester Mercury for a competition is being featured in the paper on Thursday this week. Beat loads of others to the win so the lady on the phone said. Was a Spring related theme, so if you see a photo of some lambs and their mother, that's my photo. lol
