gazzer Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 sure FT could raise 30k on here for its own pub http://uk.businessesforsale.com/uk/City-Ce...y-For-Sale.aspx but we wouldn't let anyone eat food bought outside, Lisa
Lillehamring Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 can't see it surviving a new owner, it'll probably end up as flats or a chain pub....
The People's Hero Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 Let's do it. I could do with moving to Leicester. I could live above the pub.
hairy Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 I could live above the pub. The only thing better than living above a pub would be living in the pub
Ultra Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 I know someone who was in serious talks with the landlord to buy the place. It's just as well the deal fell through - the plan was to turn it into a student bar (like the city really needs yet ANOTHER one of those... ) However, anyone thinking of putting in a bid shouldn't be fooled by the asking price. Apparently quite a bit of modernisation is needed in the kitchens and living areas.
Finnegan Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 I need a lot of modernization in my kitchen and living areas.

Thousands will close in the next couple of years and in 10 years time they'll probably be illegal. Every few months politicians act to make the publican's life harder. In fact I reckon you should have a go Ultra. Given your job, it would allow you to get an insight into just how how hard officialdom makes it for anyone to run a business successfully but especially a pub.
Daggers Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 Pubs are as dead as God - the future is virtual pubs with iBeer.
Zingari Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 you can make a small fortune in a pub these days providing you start with a large one

Generally pubs go out of business because they're poorly managed. I've yet to see a well run pub go out of business because of "politcians"!

Head Honcho Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 i think there is more to it than that , http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/buisness/p...036;1247647.htm Pubs that fail to adapt will go out of business. It's as simple as that it's not going to be easy but nothing in business ever is. I've known pubs to go out of business simply because the landlady/landlord has refused to work behind the bar. They are happy to moan about the price of beer but fail to look for new and cheaper suppliers and you'll probably find that the many of the pubs that do go out of business don't even sell food. It's crazy! My mate sells between 50 and 70 cobs daily and probably clears £50 doing it.

Thousands will close in the next couple of years and in 10 years time they'll probably be illegal. Everards are selling off most of their city pubs. Marquis Wellington and The Blackbird have found new owners but the Swan And Rushes yet to have such luck. Everards are sticking to village pubs where they make dough on the food. The new owners of the Marquis and Blackbird are hatching a similar plan. Head Honcho has his finger on the pulse.
Zingari Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 if only pubs would sell cobs then all these closures could be avoided , simple really
Bellend Sebastian Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 I think the demise of the good pub has as much to do with the demise of coherent communities as anything. That's my vaguely profound contribution for today. I'll go back to the usual crap now

Sir Fynwy Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 It was almost sold a few weeks ago but the freeholder objected to the new buyer, I think the freehold is held by a brewery or pub chain and they won't allow any radical change (I might be wrong on this though).
Zingari Posted 3 December 2008 Posted 3 December 2008 it's an unsellable pub , you've only got to look at the clientelle that frequent the place on matchdays , who'd want that ?
