Swan Lesta buyout opportunity

can't see it surviving a new owner, it'll probably end up as flats or a chain pub....

I know someone who was in serious talks with the landlord to buy the place.

It's just as well the deal fell through - the plan was to turn it into a student bar (like the city really needs yet ANOTHER one of those... )

However, anyone thinking of putting in a bid shouldn't be fooled by the asking price. Apparently quite a bit of modernisation is needed in the kitchens and living areas.

Anyone taking on a pub in the present climate is as brave as they are foolhardy. Thousands will close in the next couple of years and in 10 years time they'll probably be illegal.

Every few months politicians act to make the publican's life harder.

In fact I reckon you should have a go Ultra. Given your job, it would allow you to get an insight into just how how hard officialdom makes it for anyone to run a business successfully but especially a pub.

Generally pubs go out of business because they're poorly managed.

I've yet to see a well run pub go out of business because of "politcians"!

i think there is more to it than that ,

Pubs that fail to adapt will go out of business. It's as simple as that it's not going to be easy but nothing in business ever is.

I've known pubs to go out of business simply because the landlady/landlord has refused to work behind the bar.

They are happy to moan about the price of beer but fail to look for new and cheaper suppliers and you'll probably find that the many of the pubs that do go out of business don't even sell food. It's crazy!

My mate sells between 50 and 70 cobs daily and probably clears £50 doing it.

Everards are selling off most of their city pubs. Marquis Wellington and The Blackbird have found new owners but the Swan And Rushes yet to have such luck. Everards are sticking to village pubs where they make dough on the food. The new owners of the Marquis and Blackbird are hatching a similar plan. Head Honcho has his finger on the pulse.

I think the demise of the good pub has as much to do with the demise of coherent communities as anything.

That's my vaguely profound contribution for today.

I'll go back to the usual crap now

 that's just about it

It was almost sold a few weeks ago but the freeholder objected to the new buyer, I think the freehold is held by a brewery or pub chain and they won't allow any radical change (I might be wrong on this though).

it's an unsellable pub , you've only got to look at the clientelle that frequent the place on matchdays , who'd want that ?
