davieG Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Source BARRY HAYLES says there is a 'strong possibility' that his temporary move from Leicester City to Cheltenham Town will be become a permanent one. The 36-year-old ex-Fulham, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle striker rejoined the Robins for a second loan spell last Thursday and announced his return with a fine strike at Morecambe two days later. His fourth goal for Cheltenham was chalked off the records due to the abandonment of the match because of fog, but he clearly demonstrated his strength and finishing ability. Jamaican international Hayles also played a big part in Cheltenham's first goal in the 3-2 win at Morecambe on Tuesday night as the Robins progressed to the third round of the FA Cup, where they will face Doncaster Rovers at home in early January. The former Premier League star is now hoping to seal a move to Whaddon Road and says he has no intentions of hanging up his boots in the near future. document.getElementById('article-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML = document.getElementById('INVarticle-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML;document.getElementById('INVarticle-detail-impact-tile').innerHTML = ''; "There is a strong possibility that this move could become permanent and there have been talks from both sides," he said. "I'm glad the games are coming thick and fast so I can play as many competitive games as possible and I look forward to them. "I just need a few games and I'd like to see out 90 minutes. I'm still hungry to play and score goals because that's what I thrive on." Hayles went on as a second half substitute for Fulham when they knocked Cheltenham out of the 2003-04 FA Cup 2-1 at the third round stage, courtesy of a brace from Louis Saha at Loftus Road. The London-born hit man scored three goals in six starts and one substitute appearance during his first two-month spell with Cheltenham. He played in between Scott Murray and Ashley Vincent as part of a three-man strikeforce at Christie Park on Tuesday. Boss Martin Allen also has Damian Spencer and Paul Connor as striking options and has said he has high hopes for Hayles' ex-Fulham and Leicester colleague Elvis Hammond, who missed the Morecambe tie with a groin injury. "I know Elvis really well from my previous clubs and we have had good partnerships, so I am looking forward to working with him definitely," Hayles said.

If fit, those two would be a big handful for City's defence. A combnination of strong, fast and awkward - everything the Leicester backline wouldn't like. Whether there's any chance of them remaining fit for any length of time is another matter.

Surey there will be a clause.
Jimmy Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Surey there will be a clause. only if he's on loan, if they sign him we can't say he can't play against us, that's against 3rd party rules

dandannieldanok Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 "I know Elvis really well from my previous clubs and we have had good partnerships, so I am looking forward to working with him definitely," Hayles said. Possibly the worst strike partnership in the football league?
wirralsimon Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I have nothing against Barry Hayles, I just don't think he is the right player for us, so good luck to him. Simon
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Possibly the worst strike partnership in the football league? steady on...possibly candidates for a recent worst LCFC 11 tho??
Ultra Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 steady on...possibly candidates for a recent worst LCFC 11 tho?? Not with Nathan Blake around, or (bless him) Geoff Horsfield....

Corky Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 He'll do well at Cheltenham, and if he does sign, expect him to score on March 7th.
clazkel Posted 5 December 2008 Posted 5 December 2008 I dont think he was given a proper chance at leicester, under Holloway he seemed to be played on the wing last season and hasn't really had a chance to prove himself. He's called back from loan comes on for howard as a sub and pretty much changes the game and he isn't played again. Good luck to him, i hope he does well for them.
