Finnegan Posted 9 December 2008 Posted 9 December 2008 Sorry I couldn't see another thread about this. I don't really like these morbid tribute threads but I thought this one would be worth a mention as I imagine most people would never have really known who he was, but probably got a lot of joy out of him as a child. He was the creator of Ivor The Engine (and you can imagine how much I had to watch that as a kid) and Bagpuss and he unfortunately died at the fair age of eighty three. Sad. But he should be remembered.
Phube Posted 9 December 2008 Posted 9 December 2008 RIP EDIT: Can you put Bagpuss in the title... as I (and probably many didn't know his name!)
AoWW Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 I loved Bagpuss when I was ickle. And I mean properly loved him. Borderline obsessive.
Phube Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 Pogles' Wood Noggin the Nog Ivor the Engine The Clangers Bagpuss The man is a British (Children's) TV legend and deserves some recognition!!!
Zingari Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 old man dies , get over it (i believe this is the usual type of response in these threads ) seriously though , very sad news about a man who gave much pleasure to so many (even if he was a conchy )

Trav Le Bleu Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 Eh? I believe the etomology is thus... conch is a shell the letter y is added to the end of a word to denote that it's "in the fashion of, or alike to" therefore, what Zing means by conchy is that Oliver Postgate was like a shell. Seriously though, I loved all his stuff as a kid - for some reason there was always a character that scared me though - Idris, The Soup Dragon, Prof Yaffle and Noggins stories where really quite dark and the music ominous as I remember (I was only wee). It's what kids want!
Lillehamring Posted 10 December 2008 Posted 10 December 2008 very sad, but he has left a true legacy. programs like his certainly shaped my creativity.
