StanSP Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 3rd I didn't imagine this in my wildest dreams on our first season back. Amazing stuff, what a man!!! Although this thread is dedicated to him, a lot of credit should also go to the backroom staff who probably do so much behind-the-scenes of the club but hardly get a mention. :appl:
Babylon Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 Although this thread is dedicated to him, a lot of credit should also go to the backroom staff who probably do so much behind-the-scenes of the club but hardly get a mention. :appl: Of course... but he chose them
foxaholic Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 and your team for making me want to watch Leicester City again. The last few years have been wretched even worse than that of the Pleat, Hamilton and McLintock eras. Some of the worst football I've ever witnessed in the name of LCFC (how many games did we say that was the worst ever!) No commitment from the players we and they know who they are! A merry go round of managers, some incompetent but most, frankly just not up to the job Long past it disinterested over paid journeymen. A mad Chairman seemingly hell bent on destruction through either incompetence, impatience and interference. Not only have you brought entertainment on the pitch you've managed to do it with a high degree of success, you've brought integrity and decorum to the manager's role that was the laughing stock of the football world. Although there is no pride in being in the 3rd tier at least because of you we are dealing with it in a way that merits pride, performing in a quiet, hard working way with just a dash of flair thrown in, gaining respect from our peers in this League and above. Success will become increasingly hard to maintain but I'm confident that through success or failure you will enable us as Leicester City fans to hold our heads up high. Nigel Pearson I salute you!
foxaholic Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 Agree with 90 per cent but the year of McLintoch was definately the oorst since ww11
Nick Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 I agree Davie. I gave away my season ticket under Craig Levein. I just couldn't cope with watching any more. Football brought me, on ratio, far more misery than joy as a result. It wasn't losing that made me so miserable, it was the tactics, the attitude of the club and the players and the, 'pointlessness' of Saturdays. I have found new faith in the club, the players, the manager and the tactics. The fact we look at today's table in the Championship, in which we sit third, daring to dream of automatic promotion () and a play-off spot, is simply madness from where we have come from in the last season. I still say League 1 was the best thing that happened to the football club. It installed a winning mentality that had not been present for 6+ seasons. When have you been able to say in the last few months that the players, 'heads went down' and they just gave up...... I used to see that all the time. After last season in League 1, had we been offered a mid table finish in the Championship, most fans would have said, "thanks very much." To be offered top half, many fans would have been ecstatic. To have predicted to be lying in a play-off spot in November, many would have been, at best, extremely sceptical of such a statement. To have suggested in July, we'd be 3rd in the League six points off top spot and four off automatic promotion come November, people would have laughed you off these boards, they'd have said you'd have needed a divine intervention, a miracle. And that's what Nigel Pearson is. I just hope we, as fans don't take him for granted and turn on him if the going gets tough in the latter half of this season. We as Leicester fans have a track record of high expectations, and fickle amounts of patience. I think this fella is the best manager we have had in a long time. The way he has managed his Chairman (nobody else has been able to do it) and the way he has won games and still drafted new blood into the side. I too, salute you Nigel. Fair play, credit where credit is due.
Candidcamera Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Its easy to praise when things are going well but the season is going to be a sucess story whatever we do. I too am beginning to believe again.
The Doctor Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Agree with 90 per cent but the year of McLintoch was definately the oorst since ww11 for there to have been a world war 11 there would have to have been world wars 3-10 first. Or have i missed them all?
davieG Posted 24 November 2009 Author Posted 24 November 2009 Although this thread is dedicated to him, a lot of credit should also go to the backroom staff who probably do so much behind-the-scenes of the club but hardly get a mention. My 1st line did include the following = "and your team for making me want to watch Leicester City again". Agree with 90 per cent but the year of McLintoch was definately the oorst since ww11 I don't want to turn this into a debate but just to say McLintock's awful tenure, and I do remember it and attending the games was at least in the top tier of football.

Not knocking, but I remember a season under Taylor where we were top of the Premier league near christmas. Look what happened then! However I do agree Big Nige is the best manager we have had in years, and I too look forward to Saturdays once again
Babylon Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Not knocking, but I remember a season under Taylor where we were top of the Premier league near christmas. Look what happened then! I think that was after 8 games, so it was nowhere near Christmas. We were also playing shit and bloody lucky to be there.
leicesterfox86 Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 One of my favourite ever threads. Positivity all round. Love it.
McFoxy Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 I think that was after 8 games, so it was nowhere near Christmas. We were also playing shit and bloody lucky to be there. Well I remember it seemed like christmas  It was Oct 1st -13th, As there was an internationl gap
Cheese Me Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 I think that was after 8 games, so it was nowhere near Christmas. We were also playing shit and bloody lucky to be there. No - we were top of the premiership after 8 games and playing well. We were still in and around the top 6 beyond Christmas. It was the FA cup 1/4 final against Wycombe which started the bad run and that can't have been until late Feb / March time
Babylon Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 No - we were top of the premiership after 8 games and playing well. We were still in and around the top 6 beyond Christmas. It was the FA cup 1/4 final against Wycombe which started the bad run and that can't have been until late Feb / March time What do you mean no? Are you trying to tell me how I thought we were playing?
foxaholic Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 I think that was after 8 games, so it was nowhere near Christmas. We were also playing shit and bloody lucky to be there. We beat Liverpool just before the quarter final against Wycombe lost 12 out of the last 13 matches and still finished 12th I think so must have been in the top 6 in nMarch not just after 8 matches
Babylon Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 We beat Liverpool just before the quarter final against Wycombe lost 12 out of the last 13 matches and still finished 12th I think so must have been in the top 6 in nMarch not just after 8 matches Wonderful, but did I say we weren't? The person said we were "top of the Premier league around xmas"... we weren't, we were top after 8 games and slowly dropping from then on. I never said anything about top fecking 6 and neither did the original poster.
Corky Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 No - we were top of the premiership after 8 games and playing well. We were still in and around the top 6 beyond Christmas. It was the FA cup 1/4 final against Wycombe which started the bad run and that can't have been until late Feb / March time We were third at Christmas, and fifth at the start of March. However, signs of struggle were shown as our away form had turned abysmal, only our home form kept us near the top.
haraven Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 I too want to join the praise choir, so far the job done by NP has been flawless. I don't need a manager that is best friend with the press as long as he is best friend with the supporters in giving us what we want; a hard fighting no nonsense Leicester City. Cheers, may you not me tempted to join another side because soon eyes will be on our dear NP.
The Doctor Posted 25 November 2009 Posted 25 November 2009 stats time! Nigel Pearsons league record P : 63 W : 36 : 57% D : 20 : 32% L : 7 : 11% applied to final 29 games of this season 17 wins, 9 draws, 3 defeats 60 points + 30 (points already obtained) = 90 points so if form under NP stays constant we would end up with 90 points this season which history shows is almost always enough fo automatic promotion. apply the stats to next season (premier league) 38 * 57% = 22 wins 38 * 32% = 12 draws 38 * 11% = 4 defeats 22 wins and 12 draws gives us 78 points which is always enough for CL qualification. so according to the stats we'll qualify for the 2011-2012 Champions league campaign.
CosbehFox Posted 25 November 2009 Posted 25 November 2009 We were third at Christmas, and fifth at the start of March. However, signs of struggle were shown as our away form had turned abysmal, only our home form kept us near the top. Very scary nonetheless of the outcome. We really fooked up that season didn't we? Third in the Premiership at fooking Christmas.....what I'd give for that now. Nigel has got me dreaming again...I initially rejected the idea of promotion but fook it, let's go for it.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 25 November 2009 Posted 25 November 2009 We were third at Christmas, and fifth at the start of March. However, signs of struggle were shown as our away form had turned abysmal, only our home form kept us near the top. You can pinpoint the turning point really to when we sold Lenny, he held that team together, it fell apart all so disgracefully after that.

I'm feeling the need to bump this. My admiration for Nigel Pearson continues to grow and not just because of the success on the pitch but also because of the way he conducts himself with a quiet determination, integrity and a balanced outlook. I'm extremely happy that he is the face of Leicester City Football Club. Thanks again Nigel Pearson.
ousefox Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 Turned our club around since he came. Inspired appointment by Mandaric, even if it did take him 179 other managers to work it out.
Ozwin Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 What are the current Win/Loss/Draw stats for Pearson? Does he still have a sub 10 loss record because that's phenominal tbf. I can't believe how gutted I was when Pearson took over, I'm so glad I was proved wrong.
Porky Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 This is from wikipedia, and was updated on the 13th March. Played 94 Won 48 Lost 17 (including cups) Drawn 29 Win Percentage 51.06 Damn good going if you ask me!
