davieG Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 and your team for making me want to watch Leicester City again. The last few years have been wretched even worse than that of the Pleat, Hamilton and McLintock eras. Some of the worst football I've ever witnessed in the name of LCFC (how many games did we say that was the worst ever!) No commitment from the players we and they know who they are! A merry go round of managers, some incompetent but most, frankly just not up to the job Long past it disinterested over paid journeymen. A mad Chairman seemingly hell bent on destruction through either incompetence, impatience and interference. Not only have you brought entertainment on the pitch you've managed to do it with a high degree of success, you've brought integrity and decorum to the manager's role that was the laughing stock of the football world. Although there is no pride in being in the 3rd tier at least because of you we are dealing with it in a way that merits pride, performing in a quiet, hard working way with just a dash of flair thrown in, gaining respect from our peers in this League and above. Success will become increasingly hard to maintain but I'm confident that through success or failure you will enable us as Leicester City fans to hold our heads up high. Nigel Pearson I salute you!
Corky Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 I absolutely concur davieG Thanks Nigel, you've made these past few months pretty enjoyable.
Zingari Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 agreed , ( apart from the over critical part about MM ) but this time next year , ( when we are struggling in the championship ) i cannot help thinking that there will be many calling for his head and blaming it all on MM hope i'm wrong though
GLC Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 cheers nigel, im inlove with leicester city again!
Babylon Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Yeah but we have still let in 4 goals in the last five minutes (let's forget the 8 we have scored ourselves). Personally, I think we should focus on that and the other negatives like errrrrr, Levi not playing. Forget giving any credit to Nigel and his staff for turning us around so quickly.
StanSP Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 It has now become worthwhile travelling up to Leicester to watch them (when possible) And there's actually confidence and hope for the future!! Keep it up Nigel and everyone associated with the club!!

Lineker's Left Foot Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Thank you Nigel for giving me a Leicester City Football Club I can again be proud to support
Chairman of the Bored Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 I agree with the sentiments davieG, but the McClintock season was by far and away the worst ever for LCFC in my 42 year following the club. I had the misfortune to go to pretty much every game and came away from Filbo and/or foreign parts each and every week almost in tears. Even Craig Levein, Hollowhead, Donut Megson and Mr Allen didn't quite have me sobbing into my beer.

Sounds pretty bad
Ultra Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Not quite as old as you!! Enlighten me (and I assume a few others) at what happened?? Sounds pretty bad This is our record for that season: Games 42 Won: 5 Drawn: 12 Lost: 25 Goals for: 26 Goals against: 70 Points: 22 (2 points for a win) Position: 22 (in a 22-team league) I only watched four games that season. We didn't score in any of them. It was indeed a grim time.

StanSP Posted 31 December 2008 Posted 31 December 2008 Wow, kind of puts things into perspective!!! Anyway, look to the future. It looks bright (rarity, we should savour it!!)
davieG Posted 31 December 2008 Author Posted 31 December 2008 McLintock's record was P37 W4 D12 L21 Holloway's record was P32 W9 D8 L15 Not a great deal of difference when you consider McLintock's tenure was in the top League.

I've given Pearson stacks of credit and think that DavieG's expressed everything that I and all the other fans feel. Just because I'm not blind to Pearson's mistakes, just because I think we've simply taken the first tentative steps of what is a long journey and am a long way from hero worshipping and just because I would always look for improvement no matter how well a manager was doing, doesn't mean I don't appreciate the guy just as well as anyone. I can assure you I'm no different with myself, pal. My team once went two years without a defeat and the only game I can remember to this day is the one we drew and my part in allowing it to happen. It's the way I am. I love sport. It gives me both joy and frustration. But I've never been satisfied with any performance. Even when I shot one under par around Kilworth in the late summer my lasting memory was of the three simple birdies I missed, mistakes that led me straight to the practise green afterwards. And even in business when we have a good day on the market my wife and I think long and hard about any customers we lost through mistakes or misjudgement and try to make sure we don't make the errors again.

Happy New Year to one and all - I will add my thanks to NP as well as no matter how easy we make it getting out of this division is no easy feat - ask F*r*t and Dirty Leeds!!! Let us all hope that by the end of this year we will be in a similar position in the Championship. I already have some fond memories of some of the experiences to date in Div 1 and lets hope it continues through to May.
Ultra Posted 1 January 2009 Posted 1 January 2009 Pearson has done a lot of good things this season. His record on signings has generally been excellent - not just Tunchev but also Morrison, Dyer and Powell. He's also worked wonders with the likes of Fryatt and King. It's not easy adjusting to life in League 1 - as Forest and others can testify. Yet Pearson has turned things round more quickly than we could have dared to imagine, The saints' loss (thanks Rupert Lowe ) has definitely been our gain!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 1 January 2009 Posted 1 January 2009 I feel for all of you that go regularly to home and away games, paying your hard earned to watch the shit they used to dish up consitetly.

Every single one of his signings have contributed to the position we find ourselves in.

Here Here....I'll 2nd that!!! Got a good feeling about Big Nige, I think & hope he will be with us for quite some time. Gets on with the job, no bullshit or egoism. Up the City!!!
The Phantom Posted 3 January 2009 Posted 3 January 2009 I will agree with the accolades Nigel Pearson is receiving for this season, but like a lot of the squad, it will be interesting to see how they fair next season should we get promoted. We are playing some good football, apart from that sticky patch we went through, but I think we still need to improve a lot to come close to the Championship play-offs. I'm just wondering how patient Milan Mandaric will be with Nigel Pearson if we do get promotion and we are a mid-table this time next season. Fingers crossed he is.
