Mickey O'Neil Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Oldham's Lee Hughes fights with manager John Sheridan on boozy night out Link Bad boy striker Lee Hughes fought with his Oldham manager John Sheridan after a boozy night out erupted in violence. Hughes squared up to Sheridan before slamming him into a headlock as tempers reached breaking point during an evening at the dogs. Goalkeeper Mark Crossley was forced to jump in to break up the ruck on a day of shame for the Latics. Hughes’ brawl was the SECOND of the night and followed senior pro Sean Gregan laying into £1million-rated winger Chris Taylor, 22. The trouble kicked off when the team went to the Belle Vue dog track in Manchester last Tuesday – and made straight for the bar. With the booze flowing, Oldham’s recent slump in form was dissected by players and the manager, leading to the angry confrontations. The players and Sheridan finally left after rowing with staff to the shock of onlookers. The side were enjoying a surprising two-day break from training that came at a crucial time in the season for their League One promotion hopes. And the off-field antics did little to help team bonding as the Latics were beaten 1-0 at home by Colchester on Saturday – and are now worrying over their place in the play-offs. Hughes, who joined Oldham in 2007 after serving half of a six-year sentence for causing death by dangerous driving, and Gregan both played a full 90 minutes in the defeat. A club source said: “What has gone on is incredible. We should be working together to get promotion and instead everyone is fighting each other. Oldham chief executive Alan Hardy said: “I am aware that there were some incidents during the night which are now the subject of a full investigation. “We are reviewing some CCTV footage and if any member of staff, including players, are found to have acted inappropriately then we will take the strongest possible action. “The CCTV does show one or two confrontations, but apart from these incidents it was a very successful night.”
Simi Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Good to see he's calmed down after being handed the chance to sort his life out after completing a hit and run. willy puller.
CosbehFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Total non-story IMO. Bloke who served time has a disagreement. Entertaining hey?
Simi Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Total non-story IMO. Bloke who served time has a disagreement. Entertaining hey? Probably overhyped yes, just dislike the bloke.
Kilworthfox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Total non-story IMO. Bloke who served time has a disagreement. Entertaining hey? Public interest story, irrelivent of his past. Hughes obviously since he now sober either should feel very ashamed or is a complete **** The players * staff should all come out and appologies to the track staff, onlookers & their supporters. Also what are they thinking off 2 days off? A game coming up and they are not on a good run? I bet they are cursing that they don't have us to rise their performance for
CosbehFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Public interest story, irrelivent of his past. But Oldham Athletic? Our Oldham Athletic players really of interest to Joe Public? Might connect with football fans - but I can hardly see me Mum or someone of similar ilk being that interested.
Kilworthfox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 But Oldham Athletic? Our - are Oldham Athletic players really of interest to Joe Public? Might connect with football fans - but I can hardly see me Mum or someone of similar ilk being that interested. Yes, they are. Especially Hughes, former prem player. the story is also kind of connected with why he went down, so further interest again. Not to my nan but to most people on the ball who have better things to do than discuss Emerdale / Coronation St / Eastenders or whatever. <_<
Part Of The Crowd Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 fooking hell! That is brilliant timing with us playing them this weekend. Or is it all a cunning ploy!
Kilworthfox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 fooking hell! That is brilliant timing with us playing them this weekend. Or is it all a cunning ploy! You just went all Leeds
Part Of The Crowd Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 As a side not, if master fox reads this, were you out and about in Milton Keynes on saturday in your Leicester City shirt? I saw somebody in a Leicester shirt in MK and if is anyone on here next time i'll go and say hi.
dandannieldanok Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I'd be surprised if Hughes did actually "slam him into a headlock", especially as it's the manager. Sounds like another dramatised story.
hairy Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I love this bit from the BBC website: Meanwhile, Sheridan was angry with his players after the weekend defeat at home to Colchester. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "Let them answer the questions. They're professional footballers, they get paid good money for it. "I am not going to answer all the time. I am getting sick of answering for them and sticking up for them." Do you think he will still have a job by the time we play them?
Corky Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I think hairy should stay in the Chebs thread after that shocker
purpleronnie Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Why cant footballers behave themselves when they go out?, oh wait their all thick ****s. Well some anyway.
Fox92 Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 He got given a chance out of nothing by the man and then headlocked him! Windass and Gregan also wanted to bang Chris Taylor! Whats happening?! Should be sacked. _____ Loved the 'Lee Hughes' is a murderer' song away at Oldham this season. _____
