Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Rooney has been absolutely brilliant today.
Darkzzz_ Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 I wouldn't buy the kit but I really like it. I didn't see the England game but they were good so I hear.
purpleronnie Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 c cole definately out no great loss, heskey also doubtful bigger loss, I really dont understand a fiendly 4 days before a crucial match against a very good side. But I seem to be the only one. I guess we'll see...

purpleronnie Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 I guess if we stuff the Ukraine it doesnt matter but if we don't.....
Samilktray Posted 28 March 2009 Author Posted 28 March 2009 Great performance. If we play like that, should beat Ukraine no worries.
Ultra Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Good performance, although the Slovaks are hardly the strongest opponents. They even made Beckham look good! Rooney looked sharper than he's done in the last few weeks and deserved his goals. Let's hope the run continues on Wednesday. As for the kit, it's vile. How ironic is it that in the week that The Damned United is released to remind us how cynical, nasty and petulant the Leeds 70s side were, the national team should decide to re-enact the kit they wore at the height of the Revie era?

Made yourself look a dick on 2 accounts. Beckham did play well, and the Leeds kit comment was daft.
Ultra Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 So where was Beckham in the previous friendly? And I'll think you'll find the kit resemblance is intended. Capello has admitted as much.
C-man Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 So where was Beckham in the previous friendly? And I'll think you'll find the kit resemblance is intended. Capello has admitted as much. I don't care who you're playing against, if you can put in a cross like Beckham did for Rooney's first, then you can still cut it at international level. Not one of SWP, Walcott, Lennon, Downing, or any other daft selection on the wing would have delivered such a perfect cross.
Munzie Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Went to the game yesterday, awesome stadium! We looked fantastic for the first 15-20 minutes and then relaxed (although the injuries didn't help). The 4-0 scoreline flattered our performance, that said, the opposition were woeful. The Mexican waves in the second half kept us entertained. At one point there were three separate waves going round, one for each level. As for the new kit...absolute bollocks. Looks like a cheap polo shirt you could find at a car boot sale.
StanSP Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 We'll face a tougher test against Ukraine on Wednesday. Slovakia didn't pose much threats apart from when Upson deciding to let the ball roll in his own box. Other than that they didn't have many shots. Is Shevchenko still playing international football?

Me too, I had a bet on heskey scoring first and england winning 3-0.. arghhhhh. The Heskey hat-trick didnt happen either..
Simi Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Seemed a decent enough performance, based on the highlights. Lampard looked a lot more deeper than usual and worked it well with Gerrard who had all the freedom. Still some sloppiness that needs to be stamped out. Give us an early goal on Wednesday and all will be good. I like the kit a lot.
purpleronnie Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I'm always astonished when people wet themselves over wembley stadium, I must have missed something. Anyway, haven't seen the goals sounds like Rooney was class, hope he can do it when it counts on wenesday. I hear heskey is out, no surprises there then. Croatia will win thats a given so its a massive game. Lets hope its 5 out of 5.
Uncle Albert Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Going for a 4-0 win. Albert you cheeky boy. Lampard getting the full 90? May not be a starter Wednesday and with Gerrard coming off at half time. Could be 4-4-2 with Gerrard and Barry I feel. Rooney was awesome last night, he now looks like a world class player when he plays for England now and back to his International form that we seen at the Euro's in 04. Defences are once again scared of him.
Darkzzz_ Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Rooney did look class. Want to see him against better defenders though, Euro 2004 he was fearless, nobody could touch him. Since then I have seen him marshalled a few times for club and country, when he turns it on though he is certainly a prize asset for this country and for Manchester United. Wednesday will be interesting, I can see England winning it 2-0.
lildave3 Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Only saw the highlights on ITV, but from that Rooney looked different class. Pleased to see Heskey on the scoresheet, then he gets injured
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I actually shouted "yes!" when Heskey scored. In a friendly. Against Slovakia. That pleased.
StanSP Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I actually shouted "yes!" when Heskey scored. In a friendly. Against Slovakia. That pleased. Same. My favourite player so was well pleased when he scores
Bryn Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I think Lampard deep and Gerrard advanced is the way forward. In the past they've tried to do the same thing each and it's not worked. I think that over range Lampard is a better passer than Gerrard and as such is more suited to being the one told to sit back, which is what he did and it looks promising.

I watched the highlights this morning and, in parts, looked like a different match. It's amazing how a game can look when they put together selected clips. Lampard was not his usual self for most of the match and only had the goal to claim a notable performance. Gerrard and Rooney worked well together. I'm always astonished when people wet themselves over wembley stadium, I must have missed something. I'd hate to think what floats your boat if you don't think the stadium isn't impressive.

TBH the whole wembley experience was so dissapointing and opressive that it may have taken away from the stadium. But it looks a little dull. Especially compared t other stadiums I've been to.
