Peterborough United v Leicester City Post Match

As for missing Howard and King, didn't they both play at Tranmere when we lost there?

What point are you trying to make here? That Berner and Dickov should have played at Tranmere? That it's a complete disgrace that we have lost two league games since October? Do you think we would have done any worse today without Howard and King? Did we not miss them? You thought we played okay today without them?

We were shit. Simple as. Where was the fight that was evident at Millwall? Where was the cohesion?

Dickov is gone, well gone, should be nowhere near our team. Berner did not show any sign of domination in midfield, Gilbert and Mattock were poor especially and Hobbs should learn to pass the ball. Warner and Kisnorbo were the only ones who could come out with any sort of credit. The hailstorms threatened Peterborough more than we did. Appalling.

Peterborough thoroughly deserved it, first to every ball, some decent passing and two well-taken goals, though the fact the first goalscorer was given half the area to get a shot in was ridiculous.

A word on the officials too- the linesman near us was shocking, gave a goal-kick when it clearly hit a Peterborough man and didn't have a clue about most of the throw-ins, just guessed really.

Our fans were good, made plenty of noise and stuck with some humour till the end. If only the players were as fired up for today

Sigh...

There was an air of inevitability about today, but we didn't do as bad as I thought we would.

I thought first half, things were quite equal, they didnt creat anything, and for all our posession, we didnt create much either, which was a shame. There was a period when we just simply passed the ball over and over again on their 18 yard box.

Why oh why did we always try and go for the cross, when we have no height in there? It really was coming. The goal they scored first was a good finish, and not much of a surpsrise.

Second half we were utter tripe, Peterborough didnt have to be anything special to finish us off. once again, it was a case of 'we could play all day and we wont score.'

We just looked a shadow of what we did do in our prime. Once again we did not have ther personnel to fit the style of play that we enforced. Peterborough dealt with us all day.

They deserved their win, they werent a 2-0 win... 1-0 would have suited them.

Negativity aside, we are still a good chunk clear. We HAVE to beat Carlisle next week if we want the title. But for me, we need to focus on the P than the C now.

A thoroughly miserable end to a miserable day, with my TV being a bitch and not liking the lead to the PC. (though bright point, Button's on pole :D :D :D)

I don't know what City are doing in training but there sure is a lot missing when they run out onto the pitch.

Though we never looked like a football team in what were difficult conditions we did at least compete in the first 40 minutes.

Then we soft-touched them a goal and placed ourselves on Skid Row.

We were second to the ball, our passing was attrocious, we hardly had a shot worthy of the name and all the slick one-two's, the stepovers and the running off the ball which was a feature of the early part of our season, were non-existent.

We were weaker in most of the tackles too.

Individually only Warner, Hobbs, most of the time, and Gradel could hold their heads up although Adams wasn't bad in his brief appearance.

Which means we lost the individual battles 8-3, perhaps even 9-2 considering Hobbs' error for their first goal, and anyone complaining about the limitations of Howard could have seen the real importance of the guy today, when we didn't have him.

So too Andy King because, once we lost possession, which was rarely after more than a two or three passes we were often just a mess positionally.

Well done Posh for scoring one of the best goals i've seen in Division One this season from a move brilliantly orchestrated from the left flank by Craig Mackail-Smith who showed that in even the wind and hail there is no substitute for quality control and quality passing although Gilbert and friends allowing him to race 40 yards across field without putting in a challenge did make his task easier.

Gradel his a tame early left-footer and provided a wonderful cross and chance for Hayles which he couldn't even direct on target. Fryatt selfishly blasted a chance from 0 yards which was blocked with team-mates chasing into the box but otherwise, as an attacking force, we were about as lethal as a pea-shooter.

Neither we nor anyone else could afford to take on a fit, strong, competitive side like Posh with even one passenger, let alone half a mini-bus full. Dickov, Dyer, Berner, Mattock, Fryatt even Oakley? What did they contribute. I don't say they were trying for an instance. But they had so little impact being so inconsequential in terms of their passing, their threat around the box and their decision making it really blunted our blade as an attacking unit.

I thought Posh would win and even more so when they were out on the pitch five minutes before the restart for a slick, well organised warm-up instead of sitting stiffly in the dressing room listening to some more of "this is what you do".

DavieG pointed out that, despite some commendable vocals from the City following there was much less commitment to the arrongantly dismissive rendering of "one-nil down who gies a feck" and latr, of course, "we're two goals down..."

And our tune could yet change still further. Because for weeks now I've seen no reason why any Division One side should be fearful of us any more. Not the ponderous, imprecise and unimaginative way we're playing.

We need to go out as if we're starting the season again with no points because we need to start focusing again on scoring goals not just defending the advantage we currently have at the top of the table, ever less impressive though it is.

And Pearson needs to stop being pig headed and bring Porter back. He's different class to some of the shit that passed as City footballers today. But there's no signs of it happening.

At the end of the day I thought the team we put out just wasn't good enough, nothing against Pearsons selection although having Dickov on the pitch was like playing with 10. Missing Howard was crucial and without Tunch we're always liable to concede.

Will be a very interesting run in now.

And you know what they say about play-offs are the best way to go up

Great support from the Blue Army - we outsung the Peterborough fans all game - tbh it wasn't hard, all we had to do was for about 5 of us to sing lol The songs: 'Just like a library' and 'just like a cemetary' were fully deserved and the Peterborough fans were crap. We even outsung them when we were 2-0 down lol

I didn't hear you sing much through the game and certainly did not hear the two songs that you have pointed out. At the start I heard you loud and clear but then it died off.

I saw it pointed out earlier about the acoustics of our ground and simply they are terrible. The roof of the terrace pushes all the sound back onto yourselves making it sound as if you are going to cause an earthquake and not much actually escapes onto the pitch.

Onto my view of the game,

I thought we were not at our best again today yet we still beat yourselves who are by far and away the best side in the league, although you didn't show it today. I would be very surprised if we finish above you however there is still hope, we are certainly going to push you all the way.

I thought that personally the 2-0 score line was fair as you hardly tested Joe Lewis in our goal and well Fryat and Dikov really were poor and super fatso Hayles coming on just summed up how badly you missed Howard.

Still I am happy to finish second and for you to have the league title if it means Millwall, MK and Leeds have to fight it out in the play offs.

I hate early kick offs.

Nobody played particuly well today, Peterborough defended well and were worthy winners.

Is it true that some of the Leicester fans were locked out?

I find that very unbelievable. Well, London Road will never have an electric atmosphere because of "bad acoustics". I was disappointed by the lack of noise from Posh, the only stand that vaguely had an atmosphere 5 minutes from time was the N&P stand. We could be heard as after certain mocking chants there was waving from the LRE. I sense rose tinted glasses.

We also played two left-backs for some strange reason. Marvellous for the passing options and supply of potential chances!

Who else were we going to use to replace King?

If you say Porter, you're delusional.

I didn't say I didn't hear you at all I said that I only heard you a few times, for the numbers it was poor, S****horpe made more noise on a Tuesday night.

Second half you say you sung at 2-0 down I heard nothing and just a number of disgruntled faces with everyone just standing there. For a top of the table clash the atmosphere was pants.

I thought we were worse than you, so me saying I couldn't hear you much really does tell you how pants I think our fans were.

Just got back, truly a disappointing performance.

Thought it was a fairly even game in the first half and Posh's first goal was good, even if one of the 3 defenders he made his way through before scoring should've stopped it really.

Second half....... words really can't descibe how half-arsed we were. Second to almost every ball, some very poor control and a seeming lack of communcation between lots of our players. Once again we really struggled to keep possession and that was our undoing.

Fair play to Posh, they deserved the 3 points.

Really hope we can find some of the momentum we had earlier in the season again over the next few games, cos otherwise it's gonna go right to the wire.

From the glimpse I had today I'd much prefer Adams. With Porter on the bench. Unlike many I've seen Porter play in central midfield and he's a distance better than Berner. He scores and makes goals for a start. Not that he's likely to be picked so it's all academic.

Pray tell, against which mighty behemoths did Porter play in central midfield and score and make goals? Cos I haven't missed many first-team games for a long while and I can't remember it...??

What a hugely depressing day. Cold, wet and a miserable performance to go with it.

We got what we deserved. I thought the first half was fairly even and the goal flattered them a little bit but they were much the better side in the second. Players like Mackail-Smith are destined for good things at a higher level; his work for the second goal was class. It could have been even more had it not been for two class saves from Warner.

As for Peterborough's disabled fans - completely silent for 40 minutes of their massive sell-out game. Totally typify the meaning of singing when you're winning.

I thought the best part about today was our fans, apart from the boo boys. You really must have been deaf not to hear us, unless I was somewhere else in which I hope I was and today didn't happen !

lol lol

Fuck off back to your own bord you twat!

Onto our game; We never even turned up.

Mattock needs to be dropped for Powell.

Warner, Hobbs & Oakley are the one who can head home with there heads remotely held high.

Bruno picked up a silly booking in the first half which i think affected his game because 1/2 more fouls and he could have been looking at the ref.

Although it was windy which didn't help we seemed to be playing to much balls in the air. When we got to the goal or around the 18 yard box we seemed to carry on doing what we have been doing for a while lacking someone who has the bottle to shoot.

Today also proved how much we missed Howard, not only is he good at playing the ball up to he is also prepared to run and throw his body into tackles which we lacked Howard gives us that extra dimension upfront.

As for the bench personally i don't think we had enough quality on it, although i was happy when Barry came on it just wasn't enough it didn't give us a spark we needed.

Warner - Terrific save from the free kick :appl:

Did I say or imply that he'd played central midfield for the first team? But if you've seen so many first team game and genuinely believe that Berner is a better midfield player can you let me know where I can buy the same shades as you?

Well, what I say to London road is:

My garden shed,

my garden shed,

is bigger than this,

is bigger than this,

oh my garden shed is bigger than this,

it has 4 walls and a window,

my garden shed is bigger than this!!

I don't think we particularly missed King today. To be honest I think it was exactly the kind of game where we'd see him disappear into a hole somewhere and become anonymous for 90 minutes. He's one of the players we have who can't play well when the team isn't.
