20mj08 Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 i was there today and thought he was one of the better players in the team and made some great crunching tackles and also tracked back after mistakes. agreed hes not the best captin but think clemence would of done better if fit this year....from last season's perfomances i think not. would of liked us to play the ball on the ground more and also kept to playing our football not the scrappy shite what was played today
Alf Bentley Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I know what Oakley's good at, when he's playing well: - good positioning - seamless, silky, instant, accurate passing, keeping it all ticking over splendidly - the occasional, instant, defence-splitting pass. He has sometimes done that this season... What he's not really good at is: - accelerating to close down opponents - tackling - getting physical - turning up as an extra attacker When we've played well, he's been a part of the stylish passing football we've played. When we've been under-performing, he has disappeared big-time! If we go up, centre midfield is a major area for reform - and I'd like to see Oakley move on or take a seat on the bench. A more vigorous, more physical, more mobile player, but one still capable of passing could even free up Andy King to become the outstanding marauding attacking midfielder that he's capable of becoming, without the ball-and-chain of Oakley!
Dan Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Oakley and Gradel were our two top players today, and neither were brilliant.
Fox92 Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I think to sum this up, Oakley wasn't that bad today, he tried, he was one of the better Leicester players. He just wasn't that great either. He tried to make things happen but he isn't going to carry the team. If everyone else is static, who is he going to pass the ball to? I thought both teams made an average attempt to play football and the what ever people say, the conditions didn't help. One question, with the dire, dire, dire conditions ................. WHY THE HELL DO WE BOOT THE BALL IN THE FRIGGIN AIR!! Agreed, it did my head in. Everytime we had a goal kick or anything really, we played it in the air and nobody could win the ball so it kept on coming back. Surely if the players used their common sense, the full backs would go wide for the ball when Warner had it, so he didn't kick it long. Dickov is probably one of the most smallest strikers in the division and Fryatt cannot really head a ball, so we kick it long! UNBELIEVABLE
CosbehFox Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Thought he was good first half. Agreed. But maybe he should have fired us up more second half.
Koke Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 The only gripe I have with him is his woefully inept set pieces. Why doesn't he just let Gradel take the free kicks and corners. Other than that, I don't think he did too badly.

Daggers Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 AAAAAAAAGHHH! Daggers man, why is it that I can't have an opinion?! Whoever said you can't? Everyone is entitled to one and my opinion is that your opinion on this matter is shit.
Guest ttfn Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Whoever said you can't? Everyone is entitled to one and my opinion is that your opinion on this matter is shit. I've just re-read your post. You called me a numbnut. I'm hurt. Evidently I was watching a different game - a kind of reversal of what Thracian does with Andy King whereby he follows him around for 90 mins and picks up on all the good points, and I follow Oakley around for 90 and pick up on all the bad points. Together we could make an effective 'Andy King for Jesus' campaign
Daggers Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I've just re-read your post. You called me a numbnut. I'm hurt. And I've been called a potential paedo by people on here - trust me, as much as the pain hurts now time is a great healer
Guest ttfn Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 And I've been called a potential paedo by people on here - trust me, as much as the pain hurts now time is a great healer Better a potential paedo than an actual paedo. Indicates that there's time to change
Daggers Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Better a potential paedo than an actual paedo. Indicates that there's time to change I've never given up the hope.
Finnegan Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 I've never given up the hope. You actual paedo!!
Dan Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 All this set-pieces stuff makes you wonder if there really is a better one than Oakley in the squad. I can't believe that Oakley is still taking the free kicks and corners, but he must take them for a reason, Pearson sort the fook out.

Gradel is a better set piece taker than Oakley. Or at least that's how I see it. Even Adam's corners are good enough.
Dan Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Gradel is a better set piece taker than Oakley. Or at least that's how I see it. Even Adam's corners are good enough. True but surely Pearson would of seen this by now
King Cal Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 shut the fook up ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oakley's been our best player this season!!!!
Kilworthfox Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 shut the fook up ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oakley's been our best player this season!!!! Would not go that far! He has been inconsistent at best. Also his inability to take set pieces of all kinds is baffling for someone who claims to be a professional. Oakley needs to become more consistent & buck up his ideas as I see him as a backup player at best for the Championship, unless his performances warrant praise I suggest the Matty Oakley appreciation society expresses themselves less vocally. <_<
Dan Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 shut the fook up ****!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oakley's been our best player this season!!!! No I like him but everyone knows that he can't take a good corner or free kick. Surely you would know too?
Thracian Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 And I've been called a potential paedo by people on here - trust me, as much as the pain hurts now time is a great healer The way they hand out birth control to 11-year-olds in their infinite wisdom, the word paedophile will surely be obscure soon anyway.

That reason is that he's the senior player and captain. But it's not a great example to set for the rest of the team when he wastes so many opportunities.

Fosse Boy Posted 30 March 2009 Posted 30 March 2009 True Clemence use to aswell and he was crap aswell.I wonder what Guppy is up to these days ? Coaching in America last I heard. Get him back.
