David Stockdale eyes return to Leicester City

I thought he looked a bit shaky against Leeds

From the Merc:

David Stockdale says he has so enjoyed his time at Leicester City that he would be "back in a shot" next season if the chance arose to return to the Walkers Stadium. And that looks like an option which manager Nigel Pearson is considering after loan signing Stockdale revealed there have already been talks between City and his current club, Premier League Fulham.

The 24-year-old keeper said: "I might come back here next season for a bit more.

"It would be a nice option and I would be back in a shot. I'd certainly never say no to returning and it's being discussed between the two clubs, which is a nice thing."

Stockdale says he is even planning his own promotion party 24 hours after City receive the League One trophy following tomorrow night's final home game against S****horpe at the Walkers Stadium (7.45).

TIN.adverts.addToArray('article-detail-impact-tile', 'AAMSZ=452x118/POS='); "I'll be going home to Leeds and there will be a celebration with my family and friends because that is how much it has meant to me to be involved at Leicester," he said.

"I went back there after we'd beaten Leeds on Easter Monday and walked into my local with my Leicester tracksuit on.

"My mates tried to rip it off me but it wasn't coming off and it wasn't long before they were buying me a beer."

Stockdale, who reached the League Two play-offs with Darlington and won an England C cap while at York City, expects City to set up the trophy celebrations with victory over S****horpe in front of more than 30,000 supporters.

He said: "The lads might relax a bit, but we'll win because we have the quality. It's important for me that I keep my standards high.

"Fulham are watching me and will want to see how I react to the situation now that Leicester are going up.

"I'll then go back to Fulham after Leicester's last game at Crewe and, you never know, I might even get a chance in their last match."

Stockdale said he was happy to take a back seat as City celebrated last weekend's title-clinching win at Southend after making just three starts – but manager Pearson had other ideas.

He said: "I took a little step back during the celebrations, but the gaffer said: 'Get in there and enjoy it, you've played your part' so I was jumping up and down at the end."

Stockdale had been recalled for the match at Hereford United on April 11 after recovering from a shoulder injury picked up at Tranmere a month earlier.

He said: "Tony (Warner) was put in there because I was injured and then when I was fit I couldn't get in, so I went to see the gaffer (Pearson).

"I think he got fed up with me, because every time I saw him I asked him if I could play.

"He then changed it at Hereford and I thought this is my chance. I think I've taken it, with three wins and one goal conceded. It doesn't get much better than that."

Love that Pearson, even in the melee that was the celebrations at Southend was thoughtful enough to include everyone.

What a guy. And this has changed my perception of Stockdale as well. Sounds like a good lad.

I rate the guy, been pretty good for us. Him or Martin would be more than welcome back nere next season

Still have my doubts about him, but he's clearly a decent keeper.

There's loads of keepers around this summer so we can have a choice. I've said it before in another thread but I'd like one of David Martin, Joe Murphy, Owain Fon Williams or Lee Camp to be our no 1 next season.

He doesn't lack for enthusiasm, that was obvious from the first time I saw him at Hartlepool.

Loved him running the length of the pitch going mad after the Leeds goal!! :D

Was it not Bunn that played at Hartlepool?

Seriously. If we want a ginger bloke who's crap in goal, I'll get my mate Ginge in. He's sound as a pound.

He's hardly crap though is he? Fair enough he was a bit shaky at the start but by the time he got injured he was much more commanding of his area and seemed to have a good understanding and communication with the back 4.

Anyway, as i said earlier, personally I'd welcome either Martin/Stockdale back here next season

He improved no end as the season went on. Admittedly, at the start, I thought he was a weak link of the defence, but in the end, before his injury, he was a key part.

Love the comments from him...especially the confidence about tomorrow night! I think he's been pretty decent since he's been here, and I for one hope he gets the chance to have a go next season. Admittedly, I think we do need to buy another keeper but I don't think I would mind him getting a bit of a run out next season. That's what I think anyway.

Must be enthusiastic to watch us that far away.
