General Smuts Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 LWICD - do you want to pin this one and amend the transfer talk guidelines to include this thread rather than last years? My tuppence: We need a keeper - Bunn/Stockdale/Warner (not Martin) A right back - Gilbert/Mouatakil Left back - Bale or realistically Kelly Youga Holding midfielder - Morgan Schneiderlin 2 strikers - Cox/Beckford/Vokes Other options - Adam Lallana, Rudi Skacel, Andrew Surman (they won't play for Southampton next year)

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Theo Robinson / Ruben Reid / Simeon Jackson.
Lillehamring Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 i posted this elsewhere - if he's off , then i'd love it to be to leicester this is my wish list....daniel fredheim holm that is all. available on a free - skillful, hard working, goalscoring midfielder - no too old, not too young
ACF Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 What about Bradley-Wright Phillips? Seeing as he won't want to play for Soton anymore?
Uncle Monty Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 What about Bradley-Wright Phillips? Seeing as he won't want to play for Soton anymore? Wouldn't want that thieving scumbag here
ACF Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Wouldn't want that thieving scumbag here Oh yeah. Forgot about that thing. Stupid Australian TV not talking about that whole thing. Forget I mentioned him. Carry on.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Wouldn't want that thieving scumbag here But Nathan Dyer was involved in that as well, I'd take him in a flash. If you're saying you wouldn't have a player here because of one "misdeanour", regardless of ability, then you're mental.
filbertway Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Gilbert (Permo) Ivan Sproule (pacey guy) Adebola (Mantastic)
J.Lisemore Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Theo Robinson / Ruben Reid / Simeon Jackson. Good player, wouldn't mind him here.

dan77 Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 I just wanted to point out the fact that we are all talking about signing Southampton players, are we forgetting the fact that they would of been relegated with these same players?? regardless of the 10 point deduction?? Just a thought??

Just a thought?? With Pearson having managed most of these and with Pearson's management style i think any one of those i've mention would fit well in our squad and i'd expect Pearson to get the best out of them - in the same way he did at the end of last season.
morris1234 Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 we wont get surman or lallana they are both valued at around 5 mill each. im thinking, matt jarvis (wont cut it in the prem) from wolves and richie wellens (lethal if given freedom) from doncaster. still thinking about other possibilities.

This doesn't mean that they will play well, they may fit into to the team, but after a long season fighting relegation and having deal with all the rubbish surrounding the club by the time there confidence comes back we would be half way through a season and in maybe not be in a good position ourselves!! All I am saying is we are a big club, why do we have to go for sub-standard players why not aim higher?? Just for a laugh I did see on a website yesterday that Liverpool want Matty Fryatt for 6m, I laughed all the way home!!
FleckneyFox Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 Main target this summer is definitely a Keeper, we've not had a decent permanent one since Walker. A few i'd like are - Luke Steele (Not based on his cup heroics, but hes a decent keeper not getting 1st team football) Colin Doyle (Wont cut it in the Prem with Birmingham and has been backup there for too long) Roy Carroll (Experienced and has played at the highest level, not what he used to be but good enough for us) Kelvin Davis (Saints going down and in financial trouble, their player of the season and has been linked with us) Richard Lee (Cant get in the Watford team, seems to have been alright whenever ive watched him) Graham Stack (Never really got a crack in a First team all his career, Could still be a decent Keeper) Joe Murphy (Too good for League 1) Owain fon Williams (Stockport have no cash so could get him fairly cheaply) Iain Turner (Been backup at Everton for a while, another who always looks good when he gets a first team opportunity) Nikolay Mihaylov (What happened to that rumour???) Lee Camp (Good keeper not getting 1st team football) David Marshall (If Norwich go down) Stuart Taylor (Been here before and is available)

I see what you're saying but then look at Oakley and Howard et al this season - different players to last season under different management (granted in a lower league)
dan77 Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 I see what you're saying but then look at Oakley and Howard et al this season - different players to last season under different management (granted in a lower league) Yeh I suppose, but as you said lower league!! We could get 1 or 2 maybe get away with it, just not too many!! I hear Scott Severin is available from Aberdeen, would be worth a luck, no chance of playing in the Premier League??
morris1234 Posted 24 April 2009 Posted 24 April 2009 david marshall jack hobbs wayne brown matt jarvis kerrea gilbert simon cox richie wellens wishful thinking but id love those lot, remember you dont want to sign too many players as you dont want to upset the team chemistry. but all speculation is in a way pointless as pearson knows who he wants but its fun to speculate

Southampton are hardly in a position to ask for that much. Surman will be gone somewhere in the Championshi this season I'm sure, whether it's with us or not remains to be seen. Hopefully the Pearson link works in our favour.

Yep, presicely the reason I ever brought up Surman. + I would buy: David Stockdale Derek Geary Jack Hobbs Wayne Brown Djimi Traore Andrew Surman Gavin Mahon Simon Cox Quite clearly an affordable team that would launch a real good playoff push.
