I read somewhere that if the walkers was extended to full capacity it would be able to hold 50,000 people is this correct ? :dunno::dunno:

45k I think.

Oh rite i also read that this would only happen if we made ourselves a regular top 6 prem team lol

Also didnt mandaric say something about increasing the capacity if we got into the prem ?

It says on the wikipedia page it can go up to 55,000 if we are a top 6 club lol haha.

But anyway my source ;) seems to think Milan is committing to an expansion 2moro for this and Derby are committing to a temporary expansion. Very good chance of us getting the 2nd midlands stadium with Villa park obvs getting the 1st. Forest aren't likely to get planning permission for this new stadium as all the people in the area don't want it. Cov is too close to Villa Park plus they probably can't afford to expand. Other stadiums in the West Mids too close to Villa. But I think when it comes down to Derby vs Leicester we'll get it, Derby as a city really can't compete.

Fair doos, ive just heard something from a reliable source I'm not someone who comes on here making up sh*t rumours tho. Hopes it's true, could be great for the city.

It would be though they can't even host music event at the walkers at the moment, just doesn't sound like something that would happen to me, though IF we got into the premiership, it would be worth it.

That gives us a definite advantage. Victoria Park would be perfect for that.

I might be wrong but I think Leicester isn't the only city with parks.

If the FA, Government and Council are going to contribute to expansion costs then we might be mad to turn it down. FIFA has been quite explicit that every host stadium must hold at least 40k.

This.

The cultural diversity of the city is a plus for us, as it was for London and the 2012 Olympics.

Why?

As we know, even over 20 years after the Hillsborough disaster, there are still many questions that lie unanswered. One of these is why Wednesday were allowed to stage that fixture without having a valid safety certificate.

The club has continued to deny ANY responsibility for the deaths of 96 people (even refusing to erect a memorial plaque in their honour) and I see no reason why it should be involved in any World Cup bid. Indeed, having them on board could seriously undermine England's chances.

Why does that article go on and on about MK ******?

If Milton Keynes get a game, I will have totally lost faith in football.

Pretty much agree with the list that Tommeh came up with in terms of the stadia that we should be using.

As a piece of footballing achitechture, Hillsborough beats our stadium, Pride Park, St. Mary's, etc. hands down. However, that's not what counts in these bids, where modernity, facilities, accessiblity all count much more. I definately think we have an advantage in this department, and that given the city's location, the club could make a strong case. The current Leicester Regeneration scheme and being the UK's first environment city (whatever that means) could also help, although I'm no expert.

And although I don't live in Leicester, I know the city is miles ahead of Derby, Southampton, etc. as a location and a city. If we got established again in the prem, I'm confident we could hold down an average attendance of 32-34k. If we could get help building a 40k stadium, then why not take advantage? It would be great seeing it full for the big games. The biggest grounds in this country are concentrated in London and the North West - the Midlands has a real dearth of big football grounds in relation to the massive population. I say we should be confident and give it a go

The way the press are reporting it here Australia will get 2022 and it will between England and Russia for 2018. If Australia do get it for 2018, it will definitely be in Europe for 2022 and once again it will be between England and Russia.

Personally i would take either :scarf:

I would prefer 2018 as i would be 31/32 and i would take the whole 5 to 6 weeks off work. come 2022 i may be too mature or dead to do it

Well at 35/36 you might be entering that mid life crisis stage, where taking 6 weeks off work and spending all the dough you've been putting away for a rainy day seems like a great way of sticking it to convention.

Wicked, England 2018, Australia 2022, That would probably be 2 World Cup's in a row i'd go to.

Front Page of the Mock - strangely taking precedent over the Tigers victory :dunno:

An ambitious bid is being launched to bring World Cup football to Leicester in 2018.

England's plans to bring the event back to the country for the first time since 1966 were being unveiled at Wembley today.

Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric and leading councillors were heading a delegation to London to confirm the city's interest in hosting at least one match at the Walkers stadium during the competition.

Mr Mandaric said: "The Walkers Stadium would make a magnificent venue to host World Cup matches, should England win the bid to host the 2018 tournament.

"It is a stadium that was designed and built with the idea of potential expansion. We look forward to working with everyone on the bid team to try to turn this big idea into a reality."

With a global audience of more than one billion, people behind the city bid believe holding a World Cup match in Leicester would boost tourism and attract international investment.

As a host city, Leicester would be expected to stage fan festivals for the estimated 200,000 international visitors likely to descend on the area throughout the month-long tournament.

Detailed plans will start being drawn up from tomorrow ahead of the application deadline in October.

Early ideas include putting up huge television screens in Victoria Park and Abbey Park for the legions of visiting football fans to watch all 64 finals games.

The group putting the bid together hopes the city's multi-cultural make-up, good transport links and history of staging large and successful events will help.

City council leader Ross Willmott, one of the party representing Leicester in London today, said: "Our facilities, the ease of access, our diverse population, our record as a great sporting city and the huge enthusiasm of our people for sporting success all give us a real chance of helping England win the bid for 2018."

David Parsons, leader of Leicestershire County Council, said: "Being part of a winning England bid will be a big boost to the economy of the whole area."

The campaign is being put together by the city and county councils, Leicester City, Leicestershire police and Prospect Leicestershire – the agency responsible for developing the county's economy. Its chairman, Nick Carter, who chaired an initial meeting with FA representatives last month, said the boost to the area that would come from staging a match would be felt long before and after the tournament itself.

He said: "It would give Leicester and Leicestershire the worldwide profile we deserve."

If Leicester was picked, it would mean expanding the Walkers Stadium from its current capacity of 32.000 to 40,000 – the minimum requirement for a World Cup Finals match.

The FA has also said it is looking for host cities that will be able to provide sufficient hotel accommodation for teams, officials and fans, good travel links and world-class training facilities. Further criteria will be announced today.

Leicester City legend Alan Birchenall, said the excitement created around the county would be massive.

He said: "It is probably the world's greatest sporting event. If this city can be a part of that, what a great thing it would be for Leicester City Football Club, the city and the county."

Leicester City chief executive Lee Hoos said: "This would really put us on the world football stage."

The FA will announce its chosen venues in December.

England are bookies' favourites for 2018 with Australia, Russia and a joint bid from Spain and Portugal close behind.
