England Bid for World Cup 2018

The expansion will be of the East stand. It was in the Mercury a few years ago when Mandaric took over and suggested it.

Would we have to pay for it as a club or would the government pay for it?

For anyone saying playing infront of a half empty ground would be embarrasing, just remember this is almost 10 years away. You never know how good we'll be in that time! ;)

I asked this question at the start of the thread, I would imagine we would get a grant of some sort, Surely they couldn't expect us to pay for all of it, at same time we can't expect them to pay for all of it.

Mandaric will be 79 when this tournament is played. Will he still be in football

I was thinking that. Its pretty ambitious of him to be going along to these meetings for us, full well knowing he will probably not be our chairman when the WC rolls into town.

My 12 cities/14 stadiums would be:

- Leeds - Elland Road (Redeveloped)

- Liverpool - New Anfield

- Manchester - Eastlands and Old Trafford

- Newcastle - St James' Park

- Sheffield - Hillsborough (Redeveloped)

- Birmingham - Villa Park (Redeveloped)

- Leicester - Walkers Stadium (Expanded)

- Bristol - New Ashton Gate (Fuck it, just normal Ashton Gate :D)

- London - Emirates and Wembley

- Nottingham - New Stadium

- Portsmouth - New Stadium

- Sunderland - Stadium of Light

I would love it so much if England hosted the World Cup!

England would play all their games at Wembley anyways wouldnt they like in '96?

Yeah without a doubt. It's our biggest stadium, and one that they could probably fill a few times over if they wanted to for an England world cup match.

How would you get tickets for these games?

You have to be a member or there is some scheme or something like that to get tickets isn't there? Would it be the same for the World Cup games? I'd imagine so as there would be more demand :dunno:

I didn't want to be the one to say it. But I can't see what he will get out of it if he is still around.

I thought that but then I thought again...A selling point, It might/will look good as a positive when selling up, probably.

Its just another way for milan to make more money he would probably get the expansion for next to nothing with the goverment funding it which mean's he can sell more tickets raise the profile off the club etc and like it was said he'd be 79 and i doubt he would still be our chairman but the club would be worth more with a bigger stadium which he don't have to pay much for so when he doe's sell more ching for milan

I would imagine that if we are shortlisted then it addsto the value of the club, especially if he can get funding for any extension. I'd be surprised if we went ahead with it if we have to cough up all the extension money - we don't even own the damn ground.

Exactly. Some of the things you hear these days from some clubs are so pie in the sky, but it's still a long way off. Football today is vastly different now compared to 10 years ago - in 10 years' time it may have changed beyond all recognition, probably for the worst, tbh :( Forest's 50,000 stadium still makes me laugh though :crylaugh:

From what I've read, if we get the WC, FIFA will be looking for 10 stadiums from 9 different cities (one stadium per city, with one city (obviously London in our case) allowed two). Of the 15 cities competing, you'd say London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds/Sheffield and Liverpool would be certs. because they are all big regional cities. Bristol would be there too, but you get the feeling there's no club there that could harbour realistic ambitions of having a 40,000+ stadium.

I reckon two out of the four Midlands cities currently bidding would get the gig, with Birmingham obviously being one of them. So it would between us, Forest and Derby...

(If we even get the competition :P )

7 months for our bid to be submitted

19 months till the host is announced

9 years till the tournament starts In Australia

I wont be getting excited too soon.

World Cup football in Leicester would be great but theres no point in expanding the Walkers just for that purpose. Like others have said, unless we're premiership we wouldn't get close to filling 40,000 capacity.

I think Southampton would have a chance, especially if Portsmouth STILL don't have a new stadium by then. Tottenham are looking at expanding, plus there may be St Andrews, or the Wba/Wolves grounds considered. If Ipswich were in the Prem then they may get an expansion as there would be nowhere else in the east. West Ham were looking at one of the olympic stadiums but even so, one of the olympic stadiums and Twickenham are also likely to be considered, there could be somewhere around the lancashire area too. They may even look at Bramall Lane. Maybe Hull will stay up this weekend, establish themselves as a premier league side which would encourage them to expand the KC and I even read somewhere that they would consider Milton Keynes! There would be a hell of alot of competition for all of this.

If we aren't going to be a Premier league side, then there may not be much point to be honest. There is just so much to consider. It is good that the people from Leicester are trying though!

Typical LCFC - Even when millionaires/billionaires are being handed out, we get an old shit one.

This is excellent news I really hope the Walkers Stadium does get expanded so we could have a world cup game here. It's about time Leicester got put on the map, I think we'd get chosen over a few cities due to us being midlands and the Walkers Stadium easy to get to off the motorway etc..

Except Southampton haven't applied.

Only one city can have two stadiums. Either way you'd think it would be between 1 of the East Mids grounds rather than 2. Personally, I reckon they would go with 12 stadiums.

It's a shame the stadium wasn't built with the extension being taken down after the event. Ie. like a lot of stadiums at Euro 2008.

There's the supporters club thing. They tend to be open for new registrations after major tournaments. They have a cap based system where you get 1 for a home game and 2 for an away, or something,. The more caps you have by the time the next major tournament comes round the more chance you have of getting tickets.

Something along those lines. My mate goes to a lot of England games. I never really listened to him when he tried to explain it. Hullfox will probably be able to help you out a lot more.

Yeah I thought that was how it works, someone I used to work with went to a few England games and explained it but like you never really listened! lol

So basically there is a very slim chance I or anyone without the membership would get tickets for an England game? I didn't think there would be a good chance anyway as obviously there would be a HUGE demand for tickets to the England games.
